Extra cells in the Duke's Archives

Post by joemann on Sun Feb 10, 2013 10:08 pm

Is there a way to get to these? I've only just noticed them, but can't figure out if there is a way to get to them.

I wrote about the cells here. They're the only inaccessible 'rooms' in the game I've been able to find (the next best thing is staircases to nowhere underneath Priscilla's floor).
    http://soulswiki.forumsrpg.com/t17840-a-collection-of-screenshots-from-the-3d-map-viewer-showing-the-relationships-between-areas-and-some-oddities

Basically, there are two "hidden" or unreachable cells that appear to be real rooms. That is, if you could fly or no-clip to them, there is collision data for the shape of the rooms.

There is not collision/ map data for the two larger cells we see up top in your picture. However, the smaller cell in the middle is real and actually has a drop-down path into one of the cells you can enter. Go into the cell that contains the hollowed Reah, and you can look up and actually see this vertical shaft in-game.

Here is the rear-view, showing the unreachable cell in the top-right:

The second room is right near the cell containing the bonfire (the floating door here without the wooden planks in front of it):

Here's the rear view, showing that it's not connected to anything:

Here's my guess. Seeing how the only two unreachable cells with real map/ collision data have exits that drop safely into other parts of the level, either or both locations were probably considered as possible invader spawn locations. Some areas, like Sen's Fortess have a lot of places to invade (7 total). While the Duke's Archives only has two, for some reason. If there were more places to invade, these would be perfect spots for that.

Maybe they figured having a spot where an invader could be unreachable would provide too much of a "troll" scenario, or they just didn't want invaders directly invading in the prison after giving it more thought.

If anyone has the PC version with the ability to no-clip around the map, please take a look at these cells! happy

Any chance to see similar 3d-renders from lower undead burg? To the left of the first three dogs that come at you at the bottom of the stairs and right before the first bandit ambush. There's this planked up doorway and behind it a tower and a winding staircase, both of which can be seen from the start of those stairs and also from the upper undead burg from above the undead merchant place.

Would be really cool to get confirmation if there's collision data in there..

You can watch a video of someone using 'no-clip' to get back there:
http://youtu.be/wDZg129SDWg?t=6m (starting at 6 minutes in)

There isn't collision data, and the player winds up falling through the floor. You can't go down those steps and they won't lead anywhere. sad

Here are some pictures from the map viewer:
    http://imgur.com/a/CAjxt

Earlier in the same video, there's a kind of cool thing found by the Black Knight in the Burg. Just barely behind the blocked-off doorway in that hallway, is an actual, functioning door. By clipping partially into the wall, he's able to access the 'open door' command. Opening it will animate a door opening, phasing through what normally covers it up visually.

Nothing is found behind it, and I checked and there's no collision data for a room, but I don't think other boarded up doorways have real hidden doors behind them. Perhaps they initially planned on putting a room there. There would be enough space for one.

Oh nice thanks for the link. I was so hoping something would be there but guess not then.. The devs have said that not all the secrets have been found though. So the hunt continues!

I also remember something about a certian pendent that did something amazing?
Im pretty sure we've found everything by now. There's been so many people that have dedicated 100's of hours searching every nook and cranny of Lordran.
My guess is we've found it all, especially since we have that 3D map viewer that allows us to see every possible spot in the game that we can walk on.
But who knows, theres still somrthing in the back of my mind that saying, "there's something behind a certain wall that needs a certain weapon upgraded a certain way to access a certain area that will teleport you into the future where I will be sitting in my favorite gaming chair playing Dark Souls 2 for the first time" :face:

I think the cell with the unreachable drop-down above is also the same cell Reah appears in if she goes hollow. Maybe she arrives at the top, or perhaps you are able to as well?

I'm still looking for a trigger to open the first passage without going through the prison or doing the elevator drop. Yesterday I noticed that some of the shelves, in the first bookcase on the right hand side when you enter, are highlighted and creates a pattern. All the other bookcases have normal lighting. The sundials scattered around also makes a peculiar sound when destroyed, so I tried to break them according to the bookcase pattern, but nothing happened.

Speaking of hidden areas I also noticed a blocked off area in nito's lair. During the fight I managed to aggro the giant skeletons, and when I threw a fireball at one it missed and clipped straight through the rock structure and hit something behind. I checked the map explorer and there is indeed a hidden area behind the stalagmites. It's on the left side of nito's coffin where the giants are located.

OTH, From has actually SAID that we haven't found everything yet. I do question how much we haven't found, though, and how they expected us to find it if it's apparently this well hidden.

Do you have a link to From saying this?
I would very much like to read it.

Oh, which of the interviews was it in? They said it in one of the interviews that came out regarding Dark Souls 2. I don't know which one, though.

I know that Miyazaki-San said this in an interview: "Oh, the pendant?" he laughed. "I am aware that many people are
wondering about the meaning of it ... but let's keep it as a secret. I
can't answer the question now. I won't answer it for the rest of my
    life."

BUT, Epicnamebro said it on one of his videos that the developers have said we haven't fully opened up all the secrets there are in DkS. And I do trust him =) He also said that Miyazaki had said that the Pendant does nothing, but that could be him just trolling with the players lol.

I'm sure there's still stuff hidden, maybe not in the actual "map", but like if you do something in a certain way, then something new happens. A scripted event etc.

I'm still wondering a lot about Ciaran / Artorias / Sif and the relations of them vs. new game content and old game content. Mainly because they added new dialogue to old "places" so why couldn't they have added new "secrets" also on the Old Content when doing the DLC patch.

Miyazaki said he 'intended to play a little bit of a prank' regarding the Pendant. This technically does not absolutely mean that it does not have some hidden effect, only probably.

:affraid: Noooooooooooo, no more hitting walls with every kind of upgraded weapon while dropping the pendant. A man could go hollow looking for the truth to the pendant. :pale:

    lol!

What about in Sen's, the area surrounding where Ricard is? I saw a video where a guy got under Sen's and it was all dark, but he was able to walk around and there were some invisible walls... It looks like they put a lot of work into that area around Ricard if you can't get there.

What about how Sens has a hidden room you can clip into? There's a mimic in there that drops nothing.

Here's the video I referenced. I also found this video looking for the first one. The first video pretty much answers my question, actually. He had to hack to do that and there's nothing actually over there... unless you have to use the pendant to do something... twisted twisted
