Four Kings in NG+ Empty Four Kings in NG+

Post by Hue Sat Feb 09, 2013 7:05 pm

They kill me before i can even deal more than two hits mostly
Once, i got them down to half health, then there was 3 of them and YOU DIED, that was the closest i got to winning

Any tips on how to beat them before i give up and make a new toon?

High poise, either havels shield or crest. Or perhaps even great magic shield or the likes to block their magic damage. Green herbs or stamina regen and two hand your strongest weapon. It can take them out pretty fast.

I just kept on trying. I couldn't summon because there were no summon signs because my sl was too high. I wore Havel's armour, Havel's ring + Cloranthy Ring and Grass Crest shield for quick stamina regen and hammered them with the Gravelord Sword+5. It was a tough fight but as long as you don't let your health get too low you should manage it.

You do need the Covenant of Artorias. I think the 4 Kings on NG+ are a pushover. I had DGM +15, Power Within, Full Havel's (Including Greatshield) and Green Blossom. Just ask AFRO JT. Me and them just destroyed them today.

Tanking, it's the way forward. Evasion becomes far too difficult when other ones begin to turn up.

If you have a buff spell like sunlight blade, that's brutal on a dagger. Shreds them pretty quickly and gives you a bit of time to block. Otherwise, grab your best damage dealer and leave yourself a bit of stamina to block when necessary. Also, circle like nuts too to avoid the grab.

I have the same problem. How important are stats for this? My current, which is to say only character has his points scattered all over the place. My setup for the Four Kings looks like this:

    What a mess

Any recommendations on what would work best with these stats?

I find evading to be a bit easier for myself, but tanking them seems to work extremely well also. That's what Renegade did, and we killed them in under five minutes.

Tanking didn't work for me. Just get really good at dodging. Once you can beat it that way you can do anything.

High damage weapon, 40 endurance, and trial and error. I've done them so many times, I can dodge their attacks with a Fat Roll. Tanking is easiest, but those first few attacks can be killer. Might as well dodge instead of block so you can get to them faster *shrug*

My best buffable weapon is a +15 Zweihander, and i know their attack patterns

But i have like 30 vit and endurance, and their AOE takes my shield down and mostly on-shots me, and i can't seem to get away fast enough in fat armor

    Also, i can't use Havel's shield

Grind until you can use it. Havel's take just about all of the sting out of their attacks. Like they're just huge pushovers with havel's shield and some stamina regen.

Use Magic Shield on the Crest Shield.

Also, try to fight them over and over until they never use that attack. It's weird, but I've fought them when they don't use any of their annoying attacks, and I've fought them when all they do is their annoying attacks.

Renegade turned me onto the Demon Great Machete. If you have the strength, that thing is absurd.

Whats your build? If you're rocking a pure melee build then you're pretty much screwed. Otherwise, just get your best buff (CMW at least) and just apply it to the fastest weapon you have (2-handing either a dagger or a curved sword) and they'll go down in no time. This works for me every time on NG+7 and beyond.

It's a **** build, but the thing is i don't plan to stop at any specific SL, so i'll fill in the gaps later
    30 vit
    5 magic slots
    29 end
    40 str
    29 dex
    38 int
    18 fth

I'm using each of the black knight weapons depending on the situation, the Zweihander, Logan's catalyst, Velka's talisman, ascended pyro flame +5

Grass crest, crest, black knight, silver knight, and tower shields
    Xanthous, Favor and Havel's sets

Damn straight. Best weapon ever. And as I've seen someone post before about it: 'let us continue our slow and bloody dance of death.'

Ok, looking at your stats (they are a bit everywhere, but I had same Vit)...

The Crest shield is good, eats up a lot of their magic power from their attacks. Your insane Stamina is good for the dodging, but you've still got something like 10 points left before you hit the fat roll, so look for a chunkier torso or something. Failing that, if evasion is still evading you (see what I did there?) just take off Havel's Ring and slap on some heavy stuff, and make yourself tougher.
Some attacks, like the big range explosion, are hard to evade without moving backwards, and personally I don't like getting too far from the King you're attacking in case one of the others gets you in the back. So, to that end, tank and keep very close.

Also, not sure how resistant they are to magic, so consider the magic buff spell (I forget the name) on a very fast weapon like a tooled up dagger, see how much damage that can rack up.

Finally, I'd use magic barrier spells. See how that goes, not sure if it'll boost your defence from their attacks, but if you're swinging at them with a melee weapon you don't want to be faffing about with spells (unless you find magic to be hurting them nicely, in which case try focusing on that?)

I was referring to RenegadeCop's post about ..."let us continue our bloody dance of death." I was the one who said that.
