    Full potential of Stealth

Post by LunarFog on Sat Feb 09, 2013 11:41 pm

    http://mmdks.com/12pt

I just started testing different combinations of armor as a host in the forest. With the above armor and shield, I was able to stand still against the wall opposite of Alvina and invaders ALWAYS walked right by me. Here's a couple things that I found out for myself that may or may not be old news to everyone else.

1.) Dark blue is more efficient than jet black when in the forest because it's closer to the natural color of the surroundings.

2.) Armor with smooth surfaces are better than armor with rough/jagged surfaces and makes you look more transparent. If you have a shield, it's recommended that you block, since the shields surface is going to almost always be smoother than your torso

3.) Armor that has shiny metal parts don't work well when transparent since the shine is significantly more noticable.

4.) Shields and weapons that shine(which is the majority of them) also don't work well when transparent.

5.) As long as you're in some shade, and your armor is the same color as the background(i.e Darkblue for forest, brown for Anor Londo) you can go unnoticed by almost every invader.

6.) You move slightly less when blocking vs. standing still.

Wow, that's interesting. So they never spotted you? This could have some potential for having some fun with people

Without any exageration, some guy RAN INTO ME without noticing me.

I was waiting underneath the stairs by Alvina's building, and an invader walked into me and turned his back. I panicked because I thought he was going to hit me, so I cut him up, but he didn't do anything until after I freaked out.

That's hilarious! I really want to try this now. Just put on the armor and have Crystal Soul Spear in hand haha!

I can't be invaded in the forest right now but I'm going to check this out to see how it looks. You didn't even use the fog ring?

Nononono. The fog ring is included. All of this is assuming you have it equipped.

I assume that you play on Xbox?
Because i remember someone saying that the fog ring was more effective on Xbox than on PS3, that it for some reason made you more transparent.

Right now I'm playing on xbox. I've played on the ps3 too, but I haven't noticed any difference in how transparent you are. Then again I did take a few months off from dark souls before I made the switch.

I could be wrong, or it could have been patched Shrug

But i've never had any trouble with finding people who are hiding in the forest, even though most of them use fog ring/gold hemmed.

I just tried it out and I don't think I blended in THAT well. Interestingly I then decided to put my WSS down in the forest for some pvp (got some great 2v2 matches) and the first host who summoned me had some amazing stealth, blended right in with EVERYTHING. He basically had a naked character with blue skin...

....That's genius. Gotta write that down. Holy Gwyndolin, I swear, in Dark Souls 2 I'm going to make a moonlight based, assassin covenant that exploits every stealth trick in the game.

Yeah, I only recently found out how easy it was to manipulate the character creation thing for oddly coloured skin. Considering most naked Invaders I see have pasty white skins that stand out very strongly for the consistent skin ton I was amazed more people hadn't exploited this.

Then again, it took a fair bit of digging to figure out how to really use that character creator (turns out you just NEVER click on Initialise, just go on customise, go nuts, and then back out when done).

Having some Oblivion experience helps a lot. Although the DkS editor has a lot less options (i.e. no glowing skin), but you can make some pretty *** up stuff in both

I've noticed some weird interplay between different armor types when it comes to fog/hidden body. For example, if you just wear thorn leggings by themselves you can still see them, but if you wear them with black iron chest armor your legs basically disappear. In other word the effect is not consistent; some types of armor seem to override others.

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to try every armor combination possible now. That should keep me busy for the entire week

So now in DKSII I get to worry about magic abusers, and invisible sneak thiefs. Woe is the honorable knight. Look Skyward

Haha, I'm with you there, but where would us honorable paladins be without the HR bandits fog ring sneak thieves to punish? Yin, yang, yadda yadda.

True. My soul always dies a little bit when I have to put down a Garl Vinland, but we can all feel good about crushing some criminal skulls.
