Faith Weapon Question Empty Faith Weapon Question

Post by Faithy Guy Sun Feb 10, 2013 1:59 pm

    Hello,

I'm currently SL50, staying this level to stay in the first bracket for the new pvp.

I have 30 Fait and 20 Dex currently using a Uchigatana +8 Divine (Going for +10).

But I'd also like to try an Occult weapon.

I was looking around and noticed that the Painting Guardian Sword has a A in Occult but no 110 faith Aux effect.

So would it be better to go Iaito +5 Occult with a B in faith and 110 Aux effect?

I believe I see the obvious but I just curious if some how I'm wrong or the wiki doesn't have its Aux effect added.

    Thanks for any input.

The Painting Sword should have an aux effect of 110.

At 30 faith divine will do more damage then occult.

The Iato does have a little more damage and range then the Painted Sword.

    Also, Welcome to the forums!

Thank you WandererReece, and thank you for the quick response.

Im curious you said that it should do more in Divine? Is that because you can take Divine to +10 and Occult only +5? The scaling for Divine is a B.

    Thanks again

With 30 faith you're better off going with a chaos weapon of your choice since 30 faith isn't enough for a divine/occult weapon.

That's not it. Occult is made from a Divine +5, therefore an Occult +5 is on the "same level" as a Divine +10.

    this is the reason:

Divine has a high base value, but a low stat bonus.

Occult has a low base value, but a high stat bonus.

This means Divine is good for low faith, but Occult is good for high faith.

Don't listen to Rant. 30 faith is fine for a Divine weapon.

Since you're new you may want to play around on this site. http://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/ It's a great resource.

Well good luck wih reece advice then, 30 is not bad but it will be weak compared to chaos or 50 faith and devine/occult.

Chaos is overpowered. Also, deminishing returns kick in after 40. 50 faith isn't necessary unless he wants Sunlight Spear.

At 30 Faith, why not a buff instead?

That's true. Sunlight Blade on a normal +15 weapon would definantly be a lot better. However, Divine would be useful until he gets the Sunlight Blade, and it would be good for PvE.

I have an Occult +5 Uchigatana, and it is fairly powerful, though my faith is now 40-ish. There's two White Slabs in the game if you count the DLC one, and you can get them as rare drops from the Pinwheels near Nito's room, so if you're contemplating testing both out go hunting there!

Sunlight Blade is bloody awesome, though. Good for PVP but I tend to prefer having my talisman in my right hand since I'm paranoid and always have a shield up. Preference really.

Wow WandererReece thanks that explained it perfectly. As for the buff I have seen people say that is much better to do that with a +15. Although I'm not terribly amazing at pvp, so if I cant kill the guy in under a minute I may not have a chance to rebuff the weapon dont you think?

Also I'm planning to stay at SL50, because that's the first bracket of pvp for the new content. (Anyone played that, worth all this effort?) So what could I sacrifice if I should be higher faith? I have 20 Dex. Should I have just got enough Dex to wield the weapon and pump the rest into Faith?

I'm sorry this is getting into PvP more then anything now maybe should have put it there.

    Thanks,

    Faithy Guy

You probably wouldn't be able to rebuff even if you had a second one. However, Sunlight Blade adds about 310 lightning damage at 30 faith if you use the canvas talisman. A rebuff may not be necessary.

Increasing your faith to 40 or 50 and using the darkmoon talisman would add to the miracle's damage, but it's not really necissary in my opinion. I think 310 damage is good enough.

The 20 dexterity isn't bad. It may be a little wasted if you're going to use divine weapons or rely on the buff. However, Painting Sword and Iato require 20 dex. Honestly, I think the Painting Sword is under appreciated.

    lol! My inexperience shows,

Well maybe I'll roll with another Katana and go +15 and try the buff. Then try the Painting Sword either divine or Occult. Guess you cant go wrong having a large arsenal.

Thanks for all the help much appreciated.

^ Honestly, if you're using Sunlight Blade, then you may not need to upgrade your weapon. Once I killed a level 130ish character with an unupgraded Iato and Sunlight Blade. Although my 40 dex. probably helped.

    lol!

(PS despite this fact you may want to upgrade the weapon to at least +14)
