Since there is no upper limit, you can be invaded hosting as a 709 quite frequently. So why do people even bother with SL 100 and 120 builds?

Me, my brother and cousin all coop with SL 709 builds, and we get boat loads of invaders in NG+ forest. Usually doesn't take more than 2-3 minutes for an invasion, and during weekends its pretty much insta-invasions.

Here is one of the setups we've been using lately:

Love the DKGA for the 2h R2 special, and it gets buffed by sunlight blade. lol

People stay at 100-120 for ease of making new builds, not having to get to 700 in the first place, actually having to specialize in something when making a build, and to be able to invade more people.
When you get to a level past around 130, everyone can start to buff, stack poise/def, and heavy weapons without sacrifice. I guess most people just don't like that.

Nothing wrong with hosting at 700+, just letting you know why people stay at 100.

Yeah but when those SL 100 people invade, its reasonably likely they will invade someone much higher level than them, and will be at a disadvantage vs someone who can use whatever they want with no disadvantages.

Also 400+ defense is monster. If someone is using a 350 AR weapon, its going to hit for complete crap, not even 3 digits. So I can take hits all day from those kinds of weapons with 2500 HP.

Some of those people, like myself, don't care and want a challenge. I like invading anyone from 100-700, some 100s are harder to kill than 700s anyway, so I don't notice a difference until after I kill my opponent.

In the forest I used to see a lot of high level hosts. In my experience they were normally easier to win against. I don't know if it was complacency, lack of dedication, etc.

Also, since I don't know if I've fought you, you could be the exception.

Hosting as a high level is really easy and breaks game balance when one build can do everything. It's more fun when you have to make sacrifices and fight other people who make sacrifices.

Hosting as a 700 is perfectly fine ,but to me personally I don't see much difference between 120 and 700. I just don't see being a higher level giving me much of an advantage.

I like being able to do everything on 1 character. For example, all the roleplaying builds are viable at 709, so I can switch gear around and make it a completely different gaming experience without having to log another character in:

And there's nothing wrong with that, but the meta is at 100-120 for a reason. It's for "competitive" PvP where people win by a variety of tactics rather than everyone stacking poise, spamming WotG or Gold Tracer attacks, buffing, or making one-shot builds. (All of that is possible at lower soul levels of course, but sacrifices must be made to do so.)

There's more variety in the meta believe it or not, and people flock there because there are more engaging fights with a more close-knit community.

Actually, this build doesn't get any stronger at SL 700.

    http://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/?c=456114204454379140

    Fun nevertheless.

Edit: 99 Res increases physical defense by around 5 points according to mugenmonkey. Can't believe it's so useless.

This is the closest thing to a 1hko build I could come up with for the 120 range.

    http://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/?c=197265182238862887

    50 faith DMB = 474 + 615 AR large club + hornets ring + Backstab/riposte = GGS

Two hand lemon buff great scythe with power withinand red tearstone. Sometimes it took two. Not often

Weapons that hit 2x with a backstab also do the buff damage 2x. So that 474 DMB is applied twice during a backstab + 30% for the hornets on each hit.

I'd have to see how much damage I can BS a mob with enough HP to survive it, maybe Gwyn. It will probably be more than average HP in the 120 range which is about 1800.

    Not even SL 40.
