Man... this game just won't let go of me it seems. About a month ago I shelved DS because I plat'd it, started a new character and became somewhat bored starting from scratch. I tried skipping the Capra Demon and Gaping Dragon and just take out Quelaag... well that proved to be a lot more difficult then I thought, so I went back, hated the thought of defeating Capra and moved on. I beat Batman AC in about two weeks and played about a week of Rocksmith (great game BTW for you guitarists), but DS kept calling out to me. Yesterday I picked it up again, beat Capra, beat Gaping and am now in the process of upgrading my pyro glove before trying to take Quelaag again. I'm hooked once again and can't wait to upgrade this character so I can PvP w/ a fth based char. Why DS, why?

Re: Sucked back in...
Man, the same thing has happened to me - I played the game forever when it first came out, loved it, beat it and got bored with it - Skyrim came out and forgot about it - but like you said, it kept calling to me - picked up again a week ago and I'm loving it more now than I did at first. You ask why DS why? Well it's because it's one of the most brilliant games ever made if not the most (in my opinion)...

It's frankly that kind of game, it just doesn't let you go and the fun combined with how addictive it is is just a credit to it.
btw welcome back

Re: Sucked back in...
Welcome to the dark side. We have cookies.
Same thing happened to me. Got caught up in Skyrim for about a month, then realized I was going through the same dungeon over an over, doing nearly identical fetch quests. It was around the time the patch came out that improved summoning, and I've been cooping with a few friends, making new builds.
Want to talk about sad devotion to a game? I have a copy for both systems. Many nights, I'll put on one version, then drop a summon sign. While I'm waiting, I switch the input on my TV and put on the other version to play through an area. I keep the sound from the first one as my indicator that I've been summoned. Dark Souls seems to have ruined every other game for me, since none of them measure up anymore.
Mainstream critics may never give this game the credit it deserves, but both it and Demon's Souls, in my mind, represent two of the most creative masterpieces in gaming today. Nothing, absolutely nothing, comes close to this franchise for pure originality. We complain about lagstabs and connection problems, but at the end of the day we just keep putting it in the consoles.
It's not a game... it's a lifestyle.

Yes, the summoning is what makes the two games so glorious and replayable. There's no end to the creativity and challenges presented by other players.
Another nice feature is that for those of us that can't play all the time, you can still put together competitive characters, just not as quickly. It's not like some endless MMORPG where you'll never catch up because the high end gear etc is forever being tweaked upwards. Even the levels are designed so you can play through them in discrete chunks in between other rl obligations.

***spoiler alert - RANT!***
did you just say other real life obligations?? What obligation is more real than being on DkS 24-7?? No seriously though DkS ruined my social life, my relationship and my career.. I am SO HAPPY!!
Nah just kidding, but close to it. I've already had a few weeks off and am itching to get back... Kingdoms of Amalur just doesnt compete and nor does Nathan Drake!
Ah I cant wait for another weekend when I can sit and put in a good couple of hours... if only I had a job to afford the electricity LOL!

Nice, but remember that Queelag is immune to fire. So upgrading your pyro glove won't help.

Yep, more along the lines to quickly take care of the gaping dragon as I co-op, farm rats, upgrade gear and get the more powerful spells/glove in blighttown.
