The ability to skip Quelaag's opening cutscene without hesitation and being able to resist the urge to use Binoculars when meeting Gwynevere.

    Being good is relative.

To me all that matters is a good duel.

Well being good i guess is being the guy who wastes time perfecting every minute detail of pvp/pve, the perfect parrying technique, dead angling, timeing every attack to perfection, dodging every hit.

I've always been of the view that the most important things a dark souls player needs are a positive, overcoming attitude, a resilience to failure they will encounter in the game and willingness to learn and study the enemy to defeat him, rather than use the biggest thing lying around.

Technically speaking it takes more skill to utilize a very large weapon in souls. Such as a demon greataxe or smoughs hammer. These as devestatingly strong but a bit harder to get a hit than that of a rapier. Everything else is spot on and I thing the last part was just an expression sooo...lol yeah

I agree to an extent, these do showcase a lot of skill if you win, but the other side to this is that if you lose many tend to blame it on the fact that they were using a joke build. So basically either way they win. Which is why I find it disrespectful not to fight at full potential. If you are using a joke build, I try my best to exploit it by not allowing you to get a single hit off of me, that way it looks like they're just not very skilled.

You're right, the last part was an expression saying even if you have the best weapon possible, there's no substitute for skill silly

That's almost impossible to judge in pvp, in my opinion, because the huge risks you take with lag. I've lost to some of the most terrible lagstabs and then be messaged terrible obscene put downs for being a "noob" etc. But in pve, skill can be measured by your grasp of the game, how consistent you are with parries/bs, how well you understand boss mechanics, etc.

Yes, however in pve everything is predictable, especially in dark souls. In order to progress you must know what's going to happen, when, and how. With enough time it can be perfected. Pvp is almost the complete opposite. Everything has weaknesses, its up to your ability to work out your shortcomings with raw skill. But like you said, many factors make that impossible at times.

i lol'ed at devastatingly strong, str weapons are weak when compared to dex weapons, specially since a weapon the weights 18 does about the same damage as one that weights les then 3.

Lol you sir, have never seen a demon greataxe on a strength build. Or good one if you think the damage is the same as a low level dex.

    >Mfw telling rant he doesn't know about Str builds

What he means is that they don't have enough damage for the weight and speed. That a dex weapon is "stronger" overall because it has lower weight, is much better at hitting the opponent, and doesn't too way too much less damage. Specifically he's referencing the BSS being able to hit for 5-600 damage on an r2 poke.

That is something that bugs me. I clocked my first character up to 58 strength just to use Smough's Hammer +5 one handed. Was really not doing as much as it should've given its cumbersome nature. Since I had 40 dex too, I switched to Gold Tracer +5 for a while and was rather shocked at the damage output over time.

Exactly. Str weapons are balanced for PvE (Imagine if Smough's hammer had 1000 AR, bosses would be like swatting flies), but in PvP they're hardly worth their AR, save the Zwei and Greatsword which have versatile movesets and stunlock. That's why Str builds are best off as glass cannons, using the dragon body or a buff, along with a crystal DGA or similarly crushing weapon. That way, you only need to land 2 hits on most people. Even then, I can get 700-1150 a hit with my Q glass cannon dragon and two shot people with a much faster, longer and lighter weapon.
