Opinion on dark fog? Empty Opinion on dark fog?

    Post by Gods_Twilight Tue Feb 05, 2013 11:38 am

So I'm working on this build at the moment http://mmdks.com/10tt and while I'll be swapping and changing the sorceries out as it suits me I was thinking about using dark fog every so often and wanted to know what the general opinion on it was for PvP?

I've used it before and it has a decent range, aoe and infliction rate in my opinion, also, people tend to back up as they think you're casting pursuers and if you aim it right they'll wander right into it.

i duno you can make anything work if you're creative enough and apply it in the right situation.

i havent used it myself but i can't see the harm in trying...

your characters not gonna get into many restaurants btw.

the few times is used it myself where pretty underwhelming, didn't even land where i was aiming (locked on). but one time someone used it on me, and while buildup seemed pretty normal the spell completely blocked my vision. he cast it outside of lockon range and ran behind me without me noticing it, could've been easily avoidable if i mashed lockon but surprised me at the time.

it inflicts a slightly stronger poison than normal dealing 4 dmg per tick rather than 3. and so far the cloud seems to show up slightly behind opponent i locked on to when i cast it, i'd suggest casting it while pointing at your feet and using it as cover for casting pursuers.

People mostly see it as un-viable because they're thinking of it from a dueling perspective in a wide area where the victim can just run away. Spells like these work best in tight spots like the Depths for example.

Work decent in an invasion build, gives casters a way to poison hosts. But, there's Poison and Toxic Mist for that. Viable but simply an under performer.

it has the same problem like toxic and poison mist, it takes an att slot while there are consumables available that even do a better job in actually poisoning other players...

Yeah I've been invading the Dukes today and I'm pretty good at aiming locked off but the actual AOE of the spell is nonexistent, it looks like it covers a decent distance but it's not even enough to fill the whole balcony bonfire in the archives. I must have been misremembering it's effectiveness sad

Anybody know if its damage scales with your intelligence? Outside of that, I'm kinda failing to see its purpose considering the existence of the two pyro spells. Toxic mist is going to deal more if it doesn't, so I don't really see the point of it. If you're using a weapon slot for a catalyst, and have enough INT to be using sorceries, there's pretty much always going to be an option that deals more damage in a more efficient way. I guess unless you're using a STR/Dark Sorcery build, and for some reason want to go with 5 attunement slots instead of 4, or even 3.

It's a weak Toxic Cloud. The only point to it existing is if you're already using sorceries, you can cast it without having to have a Pyro Flame equipped.

Yeah, that's kinda what I'd figured. I'd say it'd be nice if From had given us something more original, but considering DB and Pursuers, maybe not.
