Riddle Competition

While 2 does sound kind of appealing, I'm going to go with 1.

Would someone mind quoting my riddle again then? I'll make sure it's on each page after that so noone has to search for it.

Is it the Lorvessel's flame?

Also, Is it those screaming skull things in the Catacombs? I have no idea what they're called.

Dying on purpose to use the Ring of Sacrifice to get back to the top of the Great Hollow?

I'm doubtful that this is correct.
I'm convinced that it is in the great hollow, but I cant seem to come up with an answer that I know is correct.

Zeph stated it wasn't something specific to the great hollow but could be related

so how about that answer zeph?

The answer is "Vagrant" or "Creating a Vagrant" or, anything along those lines really.

Losing a lot of souls is a shock, especially if you have a lot as that means you're a lot more confident.

"The process started, a ring could stop."

A Ring/Rare Ring of Sacrifice could stop this

"A fearsome trial, though not a boss"

Vagrants, like all things in DkS, can be dangerous if you're unprepared. This could also be a reference to the time it can take people to find a Vagrant.

"Take care you must, lest more you drop."

You have to be careful, because if you die you'll drop more Souls.


Hint #1:
The "Ring" mentioned, is a fragile thing.

Obviously a reference to the Ring/Rare Ring of Sacrifice, the quotation marks where there to both show that it was a word taken directly from the Riddle, as well as make people think it might not be a Ring-ring, to throw them off track a little bit.

Hint #2:
The answer to the Riddle can be found in an optional, but popular, part of the game.

This refers to Online Play, which is entirely optional but extremely popular. I made sure to use the word "Part" rather than "Area" so that "Online" made more sense than something like "The DLC"


I know that a lot of you wouldn't have gotten to that answer from the Riddle I gave, as recently I learned that the information on the Wiki I used as a base for my Riddle is actually incorrect. Apparently the number of Souls dropped have no influence on the spawning of a Vagrant, and it's completely related to discarded/lost items.

I thought that the answer could still be found as someone's "Longshot" guess, or perhaps by someone who's not as familiar with the game, so I gave it a few more days before revealing the answer. I hope people aren't too disappointed, and if nothing else should learn from my mistake "Don't trust the wiki, use your own experiences".

If what you say about your misinformation is true then it matters not. Bravo man.

If you confused the information, then oh well. I wouldn't be upset about that, but I might have revealed the answer right away though.

Hell a small mistake woulda mattered not in say a riddle contest or something. Heck I thought the explanation was pretty awesome.

I also gotta say is if you're sure it wasn't mentioned before and were actually disciplined enough to track that mess then %$#@ing....

awww, good job man, that riddle kept me busy.
But i would never have guessed the vagrant, just because the "fearsome trial"-line. Its a matter of perspective. I've met several vagrants and they have never been a serious threat to me.

Yeah~ I think I posted that that line was a matter of perspective as my third hint somewhere, but I couldn't find it again >.<

I've always been struggling to find something in here, the thread became quite chaotic since all that cross-guessing.

Yeah I was honestly surprised that nobody just took a wild swing with Vagrant, especially since when I made the Riddle there were at least two topics about Vagrants on the front page of General.

Is it a good riddle when it doesn't make sense? Dropping souls doesn't create a vagrant, plus the fearsome trial is not for you.

YOu can die 1000 times and you don't encounter your own vagrants.

Each part of the Riddle was about a different aspect of the Vagrant, which is why I would've accepted anything to do with Vagrants as the asnwer, rather than just "Creating a Vagrant"

But yeah, I understand the concern about the Souls part, and like I said, I was working on info from the Wiki that I couldn't confirm firsthand, and I've certainly learnt my lesson.

So, I think that if the information had been correct, it could be considered a good riddle... I think even now it might be able to be considered good, it just has to be considered broken as well.

Yes, also vagrants or the creation of vagrants have nothing to do with any ring, or even pvp. Vagrants are unique to online play, but not necessarily pvp. However, a boss could very well cause a vagrant to appear.

The only real hint would be the optional part, if you got 'online play' from that you could eventually get to vagrant if you were locked in a room for a week. Honestly, had I thought of that I would have quickly dismissed it.

I really don't mean to pile on, I just want to point out that we might want to temper the "king of riddles" talk. Especially, since we may have a queen soon...

I think samurai's was better, but I had way more fun with Zeph's.
Nevertheless we shouldn't talk any smack about Zeph's riddle.
He wasn't trolling us. I don't think he did anything wrong.
I've got a riddle of my own, but Im going to wait until it's my turn.
Speaking of, maybe we should make a list of people who want to post there riddle, so when one is solved the next on the list get's to post there's.

Had Zeph's information been correct, I think the way he put it together was very creative, especially the fearsome trial relating to farming/looking/searching/ for something over and over and over....reminds meof the pure bladestone in Demon's Souls lol.

I think the only thing he did wrong was not reveal what was going on as soon as he realized....woulda cleared things up so to speak.

But ya, I dont think he was trolling at all.

I didn't enjoy it because of the structure of this thread...there is none. I'm not coming here on a regular basis and sifting through all this anymore.

It's way to tedious. The only way a thread like this would work, is if the author of a riddle is constantly posting all answers given and the poem they wrote so the reader has easy access.

That or the op keeps it all organized.

If you make a list of people who want to submit riddles, then you're just going to have to keep looking for it as well.

This kinda thread only works if the op is the one submitting the riddles, or the participants overtake the organization process.
