Re: Dark Souls The Movie
It would be a Silent Hill/Resident Evil-esque movie...
By which I mean they'd screw it up. A suspence filled Horror/Thriller could work, but I doubt it'd be done justice.
As to NPCs? Most of them would have their place in the movie. I can't think of any that wouldn't fit in, except maybe Lautrec... depends if they used the "Invasion" mechanic in the movie, or a variant of it anyway.

Re: Dark Souls The Movie
I think it could work. Imagine the trailer for dks 2. But 2 hours long with a proper narative ??
Did you ever see the short film they made about assasins creed 2. That was pretty epic.
Also an animation might be a good way to go

There's not a prominent enough story to make a pic out of it

Re: Dark Souls The Movie
If they made a movie, it would DEFINATLEY have to be animation, or something similiar to polar express. Using real people would just....not really work. The CGI for the Dark Souls trailer would be just fine. Plus, I think with the in depth minds behind the game, the movie could be Littered with hidden lore and twists.

Re: Dark Souls The Movie
I think someone should do a playthrough of how it'd be done in a movie.
Not making decisions for gameplay reasons, not being uber at shortcuts, doing some of the NPC stories (Some with their better ending, some ending early), not grinding... Maybe leveling up at appropriate areas? E.g if you had to use a strategy to kill a boss, you might get a point in intelligence. If it was one like the Asylum Demon where you just hack at it, get a point in STR (And maybe one in END for running past it)
They could even involve the darksign-respawn element. Although I can't help think that it'd become a humorous movie about a zombie dying over and over again making small progress towards the quest...

Re: Dark Souls The Movie
I could see a comedy between the game and movie. Like for instance a guy gets thrown over a cliff by a dragon, and then as he's falling it switches to a fall sequence like that in the game. And then it says " you have died"

Re: Dark Souls The Movie
Ive heard of the dark tales ? but never seen or read anything about them..
Maybe a collection of short stories/films, could be a good idea.
The history of Lordran, Vinheim dragon school. What happened with gwyns children? Seath and his experiments. Pinwheels attempt to steal nitos power. The flooding of new londo. Velka. Carim, Catarina. Saluman the pyromancer. Artorias decline. The battle with the dragons. Allfather lloyd.
Hell, i think theres enough in there to write loads.. and thats all before we even say anything about the chosen undead.

Re: Dark Souls The Movie
Shorts would be a really really good idea. The animation does have huge potential, and the absence of a prolonged plot would open doors to a larger quantity of shorts....

Re: Dark Souls The Movie
If they did, it would be nice for it to be a silent film for the most part. The story is told through the character's movements and expressions. The only voice you would hear are from the NPCs you encounter. But even then, it would still exude a grim and unpleasant feelings.
I think that would be good is because DkS has no 'actual' narrative that spoonfeeds the story to you. This way, those who watched the film but never played the game would be left guessing at some subtle points in the story. But to squeeze in the entire story into one film would be disastrous. Perhaps it could start off with a first movie detailing the chosen undead's journey from the Asylum to say, nearing the end of Sen's? The final 'boss' of the film would be the Iron Golem who stands in the path of the chosen undead. A heated battle for a satisfactory ending even though the Iron Golem is so stupid. -_-
The second film could continue on from there, from the Anor Londo, getting gravelorded in AL, being amazed by the utter sh1thole that is the inside of GL Anor Londo. Anyone who's been GLed ther knows how *** hopeless it is. Explore the co-op components in these parts all the way to the Lords and finally Gwyn. And perhaps a hopeless/tragic ending, knowing that the chosen undead's choice had no meaning as he/she is forced to re-do everything again.
Despair is everywhere in DkS. Or something like that. I getting ahead of myself and it's so farfetched but nice to speculate, eh?

Re: Dark Souls The Movie
The lack of plot wouldn't draw other people in though. They'd be purely for people who were already Dark Souls fans.
I think the actual game could make a good movie, if done well... It'd be a bit like "I am legend" I imagine.

Re: Dark Souls The Movie
That does souund like a well plotted storyboard. Keep in mind folks it doesn't have to follow the sequential events of that in the game. It could be a completely different plot, not even involving gwyn.

Re: Dark Souls The Movie
If it involved too much dumbing down then it would probly spoil it..
I love all the little nuances in the plot and they would be missed by someone who had not played the game or a normal cinema goer who is expecting a 'clash of the titans' type movie

Re: Dark Souls The Movie
@samurainova But that would defeat the purpose of a 'Dark Souls' movie. Unless there are subtle hints or references to the Lords and Gwyn throughout the movie. DUM DUM DUM. Secret Final Boss: Hollowed Solaire.

Re: Dark Souls The Movie
Well, it wouldn't have to be called "Dark Souls" it could be, "Souuls" or something like that I don't know. I'm just very open minded so ideas for anything is appreciated.

I agree. The new Clash of the Titans failed. The old one was so much better.
Also, they would have to cut the content because of time restraints. After that it would be nothing but action. It would be just like the new Clash of the Titans.

Re: Dark Souls The Movie
It would probly have to go through a board of movie producers and screen writers who had never played the game. All the originality would be taken out, as it would be seen as a risk, and replaced with cliched tried and tested conventions.
We would be left with bruce willis as chosen undead, megan fox as Gwyneve and they all lived happily ever after

And someone would just have to point out that the game was considered a risk, and that nobody would be interested... so it very nearly didn't get published outside of Japan.
Major hit~
But yeah, if the original design team isn't helping out it'd be a flop

Re: Dark Souls The Movie
I voted yes.
Never thought about Dark Souls as a movie. When I just did, the movies Beowolf from a few years ago and FF7: Advent Children came to mind.
Some kinda human/animation type of cg film I'd totally go for. I dont know how you'd cover, or intertwine, the lore in 2 hours...might have to be loosely based. But I'd still be cool with that.
All fight scenes
Oooo and buttstabbing Iron Fang Boars too !!!

I dont know why but i always imagine a dark souls animation film more like anime type. No live action. Idk. It could be good. Or at least we have something to hate.
