Items disappeared?

So I was having a friend help me transfer items of a character I no longer wish to use onto a new character. He was dropping like mad and all of a sudden, all the items disappeared on the ground.

Has anyone else had thishappen? TIcked me off as I had 6 slabs and 90 humanity I was transferring.

this is known, its the reason i drop about 20 items then wait for the other guy to pick them up and drop another 20.

Known by some! lol I read a lot on this forum, about 50% of posts maybe, and I haven't seen it mentioned.

yeah, if you drop too many of them they start disappearing. sucks that it happened to you.

I think the limit is 30 dropped items (bags) at any one time. Then the first dropped item disappears when you drop number 31, and so on.

In the Demon's Souls manual on page 7 it states, "If you drop more than 30 items in an area, they will begin disappearing in the order in which they were droped."

Ironically they forgot to add this in the Dark Souls manual.

Yes, it's that little book that comes with the disk. The Demons' Souls manual has a lot more info then the Dark Souls manual. The Demons' Souls one has pictures too.

They do. When you "drop" them they add to the droped item count. When you "use" them they don't, because they are not considered "droped".

While I haven't seen the whole 30-whatever item drop thing exactly happen, my friend had a somewhat similar situation.
After killing Havel, he dropped his ring normally. However, it was a cold winter day, and my internet just suddenly had the genius idea to die right then. Which kicked my friend out of the game and back to the menu. Having went to the character again, the ring was gone.

I don't think that I've ever laughed at this game as hard as I did right then(as cruel as that situation was...)

At about 950 in an area of used prism stones they didn't show up anymore so they kind of play by the rules even when used. Assuming you have an inclination to drop 1,000 or so in one location.

Also, they show the throwing animation and your inventory goes down by one but there's no stone actually thrown.

Unfortunately that's supposed to happen. Dying or quiting the game causes all droped items to disappear, even items droped by enemies. There are only 3 exceptions that I know of: Lautrec, Pharis, and Sheva. You can reload your game and their drops will still be there. There may be other exceptions that I don't know about.

If you are doing a large amount of item transfers, it can be easy to lose some stuff because it's faster to drop things quickly from the menu than it is for someone to go through the animation of picking each one up. One thing I found that helps is for the person trying to pick things up to shift their position back and forth slightly between each item; it seems to bring up the pickup prompt faster and you can keep up with the drops better.
