Help with choosing weapon!

Hi Guys!

I am on my first playthrough of Dark Souls, and I've got to admit tht I love this game! I am currently in Blighttown at lvl 39, where I'm currently in the possesion of the Drake Sword. I like the weapon, but think that its bad that it doesnt scale with any stats..

I would like to know which weapon would be ideal to get? Read something about the quelaags furysword (which can do fire damage aswell?) but also scales with stats which seems better?

My stats are something like: 22 vit, 20 end, 26 str, 16 dex.

What do you guys think?

Black Knight Halberd +5

Try all of them and upgrade the one you like the most.

Claymore, Zweihander, Greatsword... Try the bk weapons too.

I never liked the black kngiht weapons. Sure they're flashy, but they're really slow.

I would suggest a spear since they're the safest/best weapon to use(long range, moderate damage, good speed, able to attack while blocking) but their only downside is that they get boring since they're so staight forward.

If you want to keep using a 1-handed sword, I think the best one is the Balder Side sword.

With 2 more points into DEX, your BK Sword +5 will do about 440 damage.
With the stats you have now, you will to about 382 damage with the Claymore +15.
A fully upgraded Sunlight Straight Sword will do about 300 damage too.
If you can get your hands on a Great Lord Greatsword, it will do 450 (more or less) damage.
The Furysword +5 will do over 400 damage (with 10 humanity), but keep in mind that it's split damage (300 fire damage, rest physical).
A Gravelord Greatsword +5 will also do about 420 or more damage and inflicts Toxic on players. A +15 Reinforced Club or Mace will do 350 damage too.
A Large Club +15 can alsmost reach 500 damage, and it's heavy attack is much better than the Great Club. It also inflicts Poison, but it's a rare weapon.
And finally the Halberds +15 will be around 485 damage.

I listed a few weapons of different categories, so you have an idea what to pick. Remember to go with poise and heavy armor if you plan to use ultra greatswords, greathammers, etc. It'll make your life easier

If you are building a "Melee" class, I would get a Zweih +15.

No, no, no, these are all wrong. For now, you need a Pickaxe +15 imo, and later, you MUST HAVE CHAOS BLADE! Also, when you reach Anor Londo, the Silver Knight Spear +5 is deadly.

actually with your stats, any small club will be strong is fupgraded, but they are difficult to use so... i'd suggest either a large club or a manserpent great sword when you get past blighttown.

Since you're a Strength based player with only functional Dex, you might not like the Furysword as much. It IS fast though.

What KIND of weapon are you looking for? They all do very different things. You might want a chunky heavy sword for single strong hits, a small fast weapon, or a long reach weapon... there's a lot of choice there. Look for weapons that scale off strength primarily, or that scale off strength and dexterity equally.

If I had to pick a weapon for you though, I'd try the regular Halberd. Should be fairly effective with those stats, especially if you upgrade it.

In that case: Maybe a Claymore (I know, been said before) or upgraded Longsword (Very underrated)?

I have now completed Blighttown and Queelag's domain and rang the second bell. I've come to the first bonfire of Sen's Fortress, where I've got to admit - the drake sword is not good anymore..

I got a few questions:

I have the Black Knight Halberd - is it only possible to upgrade it to 5+ ? Or can it go higher?

Where can I see how much the weapons scale with each skill?

The Black Knight Halberd can only be upgraded to +5. Also, it uses the rare Twinkling titanite as an upgrading material, and you need 10 of them to get to +5. Also, quoting someone who I can't remember: "The Drake Sword is a crutch, and a bad one at that." Also, you can see where the weapon scaling is down near the bottom when you are looking at the weapons statistics, and Black Knight weapons are too powerful to really make much difference with scaling anyway. Quality builds love the Claymore, because of it's C rating in STR and DEX scaling, making it increasingly powerful as you level up.

The Black Knight Halberd is a very effective weapon however, I definitely wouldn't feel bad using that. Don't worry too much about choosing weapons though, might as well carry a ton and experiment - there's cool weapons ALL OVER this game, man.

If you're feeling very silly trade a sack with snuggly at the undead asylum. Get yourself a giant hammer. Not great, but no-one ever really predicts their preferred weapon.
