    I am a sinner :( Empty I am a sinner :(

Post by Sentiel Sun Jan 27, 2013 2:50 pm

    My fellow bloodthirsty PvPers.
I have commited the worst sin in my Dark Souls history.

I HAVE ABANDONED THE CHAOS BLADE!

Today, I was goofing around with weapons. I have a +14/15 of almost every weapon that I can use on 28/45, but I don't use most of them. I got bored and wanted to give Rapiers a shot. Up to now, I have always used Estoc, for it's reach and power.

I wanted to try the other ones.

Ricard's was good, but it's R2s left something to desire. I've read they're good for wake up attacks, but I dislike those and if I decide to do one, I use Black Flame, for it's stagger. Also, it's AR was lowest of all my Rapiers, but that's perhaps because it's the only one on +14.

I also have a Rapier +15, which I had only for backstabs, but after the DLC, Dark Silver Tracer took it's place as my primary critical weapon. I've never really did a "no critical" PvP with it before, so I decided to give it a try.

    That thing is epic!
At first I though "Meh, the range will suck, cos it's short...". Indeed, it does. However, it's R2s are very fast and have quite the reach. They can be followed up with a quick R1 to stop roll bs punishes. I was even able to fight against my greatest enemy, spears, with it and punish attacks that I couldn't even with Estoc.

It's attacks are faster than Estocs. It's like Washing Pole and other katana. It's longer and stronger, but it's attacks are a bit slower.
It also does less damage if you hit with the very tip of the weapon. Perhaps it is because the tip is chipped a bit...

The Rapier's damage is pretty low, but it's got very strong criticals, can turtle, got unexpected range and some seriously fast poking attacks and if combined with Leo Ring, the damage is actually impressive.

People seem to try to bs me less than before. Perhaps it's thanks to the weapons infamous reputation, as a prime bs tool, but that can be a coincidence.

I'm gonna use this baby for a while. cheers

    Spoiler:

CHAOS BLADE IS STILL THE BEST BLADE!!!

The titanite Catch Pole is now my main weapon, but my signature shall always remain because ìt ìs true. :mask-averice:

I agree. The Chaos Blade is the best blade, that didn't change.

How did you manage to get rid of the addiction to the grass?
    Enlighten me, please! Prostration

How to kìck the grass addìctìon:

    1. Stop using the Chaos Blade, or any other inferior katana.

    2. Stop using any other weapons, like spears, that can easily punish people.

    3. Pick a weapon with relatively low stamina cost.

    4. Stop spamming running attacks. Learn when to block and when to dodge. Dodging an ultra GS is much more stamina friendly than blocking it.

    5. Learn to keep your distance and when to engage. Don't engage unless you are at 3/4 stamina or more - this can most likely lower with time. If you keep your distance like you should, those hyped-up, impatient grass munchers should get impatient, making sloppy attacks that are easy to parry.

    6. Find someone else who doesn't use grass and duel them. Preferably someone who is used to it. While fighting, watch their movements and you'll pick up on even more things.

Once again, thanks to Juutas for this, and some of that stuff is just joking.

    1. Just happened. For now, at least.
    2. Keeping distance is more Stamina consuming than the attacks with spear.
    3. Rapier works well. It's Stamina cost is pathetic, even if I mostly use it's R2. Also got BSS, which is very Stamina friendly, but it's kinda overused.
    4. I try not to, it's very risky and the reward isn't nothing to write home about.
5 . Yes, Rapier and SKS helped me to learn this. Especially SKS, because with low Stamina, you will die soon with a spear. Best way to learn Stamina managment.
    6. Lot of players I meet don't use Grass, but they're mostly casters then...

The spear part was a joke. I don't notice a difference with grass and no grass when using a spear. I probably should have said don't be overly aggressive when using a weapon similar to a spear or katana. I'd use all of my stamina for an onslaught of attacks then follow up with another couple as soon as my stamina regenerated a small amount to catch people off guard. When not using grass, I just can't do that anymore.

Too bad we're on separate consoles; I can name a couple people on Xbox that are pure melee no-grassers.

But yeah, no grass ever in a fight... Wasn't hard. xD

Once someone gets addicted to it, it's hard to go without it. sad
When I first started to PvP I didn't use grass, but that didn't last long.

Greatsword is best sword, by the way.

Exactly. Once you get addicted to the super fast Stamina regen you tend to go R1 happy a lot and when the Grass runs out, your Stamina seems snail slow.

Well Iaito has awesome 1H R2. I can't argue there.

Ricard's is amazing for a lot more than just wake-up attacks. It's AR is relatively low, but if you tag someone with 6 buffed attacks in quick succession, then it's low AR doesn't really matter so much. In fact I'd think it'd be relatively OP if it had much more AR than it does. I've been using it on a 80 poise toon, buffing with CMW, with the TCC, and tanking hits to deliver the 2h R2 combo. I've been slaughtering people with it. It's 2h R2 is quick enough without trying to combo too, than you just continuously catch people with it as a punish move and get two quick hits each time. Just stay right with your opponent and fire it out each time they try to take and action.

Rapier's R2s are a very fast pokes with huge range, so it's great for punishing and countering.

Ricard's R2s are good, but I either got parried, or people tanked it and went for a BS. They don't do that to Rapier's R2s, because they're much faster in execution and recovery, so I can roll away, or counter bs/parry and it's not telegraphed.
Also, it has no attack with a range of Rapier's R2s so punishing will be harder with it.

Not saying it's better/worse. It's like Uchi and Iaito, a matter of preference.

    ^ I don't think there's anything wrong with the Rapier, I'm just
recently discovering the value of the Ricard's, so I thought I'd put my
two cents in and stand up for it. You absolutely have to be wary of the
possibility of BSing, but it's got it's faster R1's too. The way I've
been handling it thus far is by setting up a heavy poise/fast roller,
with a combo of Havel's and light armor combined with the Wolf ring, and
I dance around outside of my opponent's range and poke with R1's, then
when they try to take actions that have long enough animations for me to
get away with it, I blast em with the R2's. Depending on the opponent's
equipment of course. Like pretty much all my other toons, I'm finding
that the lower poise/larger weapon enemies are the easiest to take down
this way. All you really have to do is tank a hit, which the Wolf
ring/Havel's does nicely, then step in with the R2. With a light poise
target you'll be stunning them before the first R2 press is over, and
then you basically infinite stunlock with the second press, which
translates to I think 6 buffed stunlocking hits. I'm finding it to be
    pretty devastating.
