    New Devil May Cry

Post by WandererReece on Sun Jan 27, 2013 6:49 pm

So, I just learned that the New Devil May Cry is ... diffrent.

Some say it's really great, and some say it's ... not.

    What do you think?

Right now all I can think is, "OMG, what's up with the hair!"

I think its good, but not better. I liked the way they changed Dante and Vergil. Their personalities are pretty diferent from the original series.

Dante is not full sarcastic anymore and now he also gets angry and sad.

    Vergil smiles. Vergil smiles? wow

About gameplay, I must say that is very similar to Castlevania LoS. Its a cool gameplay style, with easy and long combos.

I believe its better than DmC 2 and DmC 4, on par to DmC 1 but DmC 3 is still the best.

I played the demo and the combat was really good and very fluid. I'll admit that I was like everyone else when they announced the new DMC game and his new look. But when I found out that it was reboot and that Ninja Theory was developing it I knew that it was going to be a hit (who can disagree when they made such awesome games as Heavenly Sword and Enslaved!).

@Wanderer Reece. Dude, for one that is not an easter egg, it happens in the first 5 minute of the first level. Second, don't knock the game 'till you've tried it, to be honest that scene was just tongue in cheek humour, something us Brits are renowned for (yes Ninja Theory are British). Third, don't focus on the character model, the gameplay is fine and it is altogether a very good game, is it better than the original DMC's? No, but is it worth your time? definitely. Do NOT be one of those people who threw a ***** fit for changing Dante's look. And you can't formulate an opinion of a game, if you yourself have ot played said game, this game is more than worth your money, and if you don't like new Dante, there is a classic Dante costume pack for you to buy, and Capcom will be laughing all the way to the bank thanks to people like you.

Did I say it was an easter egg? No.

Did I say I was mad that they changed the character's appearance? No.

I'm mad because they insulted his origional appearance.

Well sorry if I seemed a bit aggressive but it wasn't really offensive was it? it's a little bit of sarcasm, many people use that device every day for humour, could it have been in bad taste after everyone hated the new look? Yes, but personally I liked it, it separated this Dante from the preboot Dante. And you did say in the OP that all you could think of was the way he changed his look and the title of the video you embedded said DmC easter egg. I'm just annoyed at all the people who only focus on their look, and hate on the game for it, like the Metacritic ****. Users voted 1's for this JUST because of the look of Dante. And then some Critics thought they would join in as well because EVERYONE hates new Dante, please get the game and check it out, it is more than worth your time.

That is true. That was out of surprise, not anger.

and the title of the video you embedded said DmC easter egg.

I was not the one who put the vid on youtube. If you click the little white circle it was origionally posted by someone named "CommunityGame" I'm assuming they were also the ones who named it. Click the title and complian to them.

I already have, as have many other people, this guy has made tonnes of money by falsely advertising, but ho hum it's the internet and no reasonable force exists here. I was just reasoning my point.

Anyway this game, man this game. It's not perfect, by any stretch of the imagination, but it sure as hell is good, really good. Reece, if you're a fan of the previous DMC's get this, even if only to validate your hatred against it, just don't write it off because they changed Dante's hair.

End story, you liked DMC? Get DmC, now.

I tried the demo, but it didn't really appeal to me, or unless the demo didn't have anything I wish it had.

First off, I started off at "hard" mode my very first time and it was breeze for the most part. While I won't argue difficulty isn't everything, I will say that a lack of an adequate challenge is boring.

Second, Dante is too air inclined. It may seem like a weird complaint, but Dante's overall inclination to aerial combat, combos that only send enemies up, bring-or-go grapple moves and the apparent lack of jump-cancelling (Although, I'll give the benefit of the doubt that the demo just didn't include it) seems to make the game more of a test to see how long you can be in the air. It also means that he can't quite be as awesome in the ground as he was in the air at times (Not that Dante was ever more awesome in the ground than in the air; look up any elite Dante combos, those guys dominate the air).

Third is actually the devil trigger mechanic. You see, the problem is that it pretty much screams out: "We can only let you be awesome while airbone; ground is for noobs!".

Fourth, no style mechanics. IMO, style systems where the best thing ever done to DMC and I found that DMC4 was awesome simply because of how they managed to fit all Dante's 5 styles and give him about 100 moves without requiring any real odd combination of button presses. Well, the demo didn't show any signs of a style system, but rather the grapple mechanics which is a redo of the Devil Bringer.

If anything, Dante animation-wise, looks awesome and it shows that he is putting all his strength into every attack, which some moments in DMC didn't really make it look like that. Not that old Dante had to break a sweat to look cool, but sometimes you just wanted him to look like he was putting some effort aside from his Ifrit/Beowulf moves.

So, not really interested in the game until I know whether we will have style systems and jump-cancelling, and after a couple of combo videos to see what are the limits of new Dante's abilities. DMC is about the fashion in killing.

    Spoiler:
Most videos I've seen have Dante's hair turn permanently white in the last cutscene. There was one where it stayed brown, so I think there might be different scenes for different difficulty levels.

There was a lot more to Dante than just his white hair. Anyone talking about the new Dante who only mentions the lack of white hair has no idea who Dante was.

The good new is, contrary to my initial belief, Dante is not dead!

    This is who dante was:
    Skip to 16:00: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mg2SkrrQXUk

This demo really made me look forward to the game. For 2 main reasons: 1. That cutscene, 2. They actually LET YOU fight the boss battle. I hate demos that show you the boss, then end just before you can actually fight him. A boss battle is the perfect way to show how the gameplay holds up. If you deny me the epic boss battle you just teased, then I will categorically refuse to buy your game, that is all.

Also, Devil May Cry was as much about Dante (and the rest of the cast) as it was the Gothic architecture, themes, and atmosphere; the heaven vs hell imbibed storyline; and most of all, the GAMEPLAY. I will give Ninja Theory some credit on the gameplay front, since they did pretty well. They definitely dumbed down the original gameplay and made it too accessible, but it's still got potential for being fun. What I absolutely loathe about the game is the new characters, the setting, and the plot. These are absolutely nothing like what DMC used to be.

I totally get that it's a reboot, though. Hell, I've made my peace with it; the game's just not for me. The DMC I knew and loved is past, it's done, and this is the new series. It's not for me, that's all. If people like it, great for them. I myself hate it and won't be buying into it, but I don't despise anyone who likes this game.

^I don't mean to derail this thread, but I have to reply to that! I actually really enjoyed the DS3 demo too. And there was a boss battle in it. silly Not the gargantuan one at the end, but at least there was one. I played both demos tonight, and was really pleased with both. In fact, I was about to create a new thread for them (and all demos in general). I'll go do that now.

Dante's always been a c-ocky MOFO, I just hope he becomes more classy and less trashy over time. C'mon, there's ways to insult your opponents without resorting to cursing!

I liked the incessant swearing, it was so overused it was comical.

There is a way to jump cancel, check out Seraphim17, he has a few videos where he explains jump cancelling and how to do it in DmC.

The mop joke, that really was just a little bit of satire, I don't know why everyone is taking it so seriously tbh.

I've read that in other reviews. That's what made me a little nervous.

I remember the the Devil Bringer. It was fun during the first 2 levels. Then it got boring. Although I found out I could kill enemies while literaly staying in the air the whole time if I used it right. It was for one of the secret challenges.

Start on Nephilim, and then SoS and DmD get harder, quite significantly. And it's a fun game to chase achievments/trophies since the gameplay will keep you hooked.

I was actually watching some footage, dumbfounded the whole time. The character models looked so bad, as I watched I kept thinking "This is a new game? What hell, I don't focus on graphics but for a modern game this is terrible!"

Then I realized it was DMC3. lol!

Fun combat, mad tight controls, good characters and narrative, and some of the most intriguing level design and environments in recent gaming -- 8/10.

    There's my one sentence review.

So, this poll has been going for 2 days now. 1 person said yes, and 6 people said no.

I'm getting nervous about the game again.

If you think it's good, then speak up.

(Also, I didn't vote. I saw the results by logging off.)

Just because something isn't as good as the original doesn't mean its a bad game though.

I mean, I hate hack and slash games so personally I think it is a bad game.

But from the opinion side of people who enjoy these types of games, it still very well may be a good game.
