Then talked to Siegmeyer when he told me of his plan to help so I could get away. He then said not to be slow; at which time I jumped in to kill the remaining one but Siegmeyer never did follow me in so was not hurt. After reloading he was gone. Is there any way to complete quest to obtain the slab? Thanks

Nope. You have to talk to him until he jumps in, then follow him. If you killed the last one before he could then it's all over unfortunately. He'll appear hanging out somewhere else and won't move. I can't remember where though. At this point, the best thing you can really do is kill him and get his unique ring.
