Need a recommendation on anime shows.

Post by IceIfrit666 on Tue Jan 22, 2013 9:45 pm

I have watched Persona 4 the Animation and I am nearly done with Hellsing.
    Could anyone give a suggestion?
I tried Gurren Lagann, which wasn't my "cup of tea" so I need something new.
I'd like suggestions for something "comedic" and "action-y."

I'd be surprised if you haven't watched it already, but there is Samurai Champloo.

I liked Darker than Black and Ghost in the Shell.

If you havent already watch the other hellsing (there's the normal one and ultimate). Phantom: Requiem for a phantom is pretty good too.

Also comedic and actiony? Sorry to steal Tolvo's line but Mad Bull 34! Its insanely NSFW (as in dont watch it unless you're alone in your house and have sealed it up) but its good.

I haven't seen it but because of the 34 in the title I might have to.

DoughGuy; Phantom Requiem is awesome! It definitely isn't a comedy, though.
Can you give a few other bits of info besides just 'comedy' and 'action'? For example, what genres and settings you like, how in-depth you like the story to be, etc.

THATS THE ONE. I was thinking of one that seemed kinda like DtB but couldnt remember the name.

    Phantom is really good.

Mad Bull 34. The sleeziest most offensive, and politically incorrect anime I've ever seen. You've got to watch it. Just understand, super NSFW. Understand, one of the first scenes involves two guys naked, holding a naked woman while trying to shoot her up with heroin. This ain't your daddy's anime boy.

big grin At least an otaku thread!

Ok. If you are new to anime/manga i would suggest you to explore all the genres on it.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan is a masterpiece but if you didnt like it i guess i can recomend you these:

-Black Lagoon: two seasons and a spin-off third one. Action, mafia, dark ambient. Lots of drama and adrenaline, very manly.

-Afro Samurai: Samuel L Jackson puts the voice to the main character. If this isnt selling you; is a really good anime. In english, 6 big episodes. Lots of blood, drama and action.

-Karas: Like afro samurai, 6 big episodes, LOTS of action and a rally good 3d implemented in the fight scenes. I totally recomend this.

-Baccano!: Really good anime. I loved it. Some fantasy but almost all the anime takes place in the early 50s, with loads of mafia, guns, cool animation, drama... And some comedy.

    And now, the comedy ones:

-Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei: I dont know whats your type of comedy but this anime made me laugh to death in every chapter. Random jokes, WTF themed. It also has second season and a third one.

-Fireball and Fireball Charming: Two seasons of mini-episodes of almots 2 minutes each one. Lots of stupid humor, random references but always fun.

-Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai: Full of videogames jokes. The main char is a nerd who proclamates himself "The conqueror God" for being the best in date games xD such a very good option if you dont mind about the 1/4 of romance in the anime.

-Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei: THE BEST comedy anime ive ever seen. A masterpiece. Maybe too advanced for begginers in this world.

And well, i always tell people to check my animelist and explore all the genres: http://myanimelist.net/animelist/AshranQ

pd: Neon Genesis Evangelion is the best anime ever. No discussion.

I've only ever watched one anime series, but it changed my *** life and I recommend it to everyone.

    Hajime no Ippo.

    Action-y and pretty comedic.

... OH. HIgurashi no Naku Koro ni. (Higurashi: When they Cry) There's some action, (though it's more of a mystery with action than an actual action) has great humor and an AWESOME storyline. One of my favorite animes ever is The Legend of the Legendary Heroes. It's an awesome story with a dumb name.
And while I'm on it, I hope for masks like the ones worn in Phantom Requiem on Dark Souls 2. The masks worn by the 'assassins' in the trailer are good, if not as good.

Well, Higurashi has lots of blood, drama and psychological horror and he said he wanted Comedy/Action but yes, Higurashi is a masterpiece.

Eyeshield 21, it's not the best anime in the world, but it's comedic, has good action (if you like american football, even if you don't much if i'm honest), and a lovable collection of characters..

Afro Samurai- this stuff doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Pretty short but is just awesome, Samuel Jackson does a good voicing job on this one.

Rave Master. Hiro Mashima's effort before Fairy Tail, and far superior. More focused story, more interesting characters and it knows how to not drag on too long, unlike most shonen. Action and comedy, just the thing you asked for.

    Comedy and action?

Well Guren Lagann is a big one in that mix of categories.  Maybe explain why you didn't like it in a little more detail?  Was it too over-the-top?  Was it's story too nonsensical and not straightforward enough?  Was it a particular character that you couldn't stand?

I only ask because if Guren Lagann, being such a "big player" anime in those two respects, didn't hold up for you we'll need details to narrow down what might work to make decent suggestions beyond "well these are the shows I personally enjoyed."

And just so I can have a recommendation instead of just a question.  Full Metal Panic.  It actually has two sequel series, one of which is a comedy and one of which is action because the creators couldn't decide which element of the first series they wanted to focus on for the follow up (very long way of saying it's got both comedy and action, is very good at doing both).

I haven't watched Attack on Titan, but I'm not sure how I feel about it. Maybe because last season's anime was so amazing that everything else seems a little less bright.

I'm sorry, I only watch the more 'popular' (I guess?) animes like Naruto, Bleach, etc.

Every anime has funny aspects in it. I THINK Fairy Tail has a more 'funny' theme going. If you don't know it, the first episodes may get a bit annoying as they get individual cutscenes everytime they use a power, but it disappears after a while. They also have 5 OVA's best found on YouTube. They are full of humor and fan service.
You can always try to type in 'Naruto/Bleach/One Piece funny moments', but you might have to know the anime to get certain jokes.

    That's all I got

Have you ever thought about "Angel Beats!"? It's great Praise the Sun  plenty of action and comedy.
Future Diary would be another good one to suggest.

Nailed both of those already and the FD Redial episode as well.
AB is as you described and FD is messed up but has an interesting plot.

Action? Afro samurai- it's great. Though action is a bit questionable in terms of genre quality.
