Avelyn reload animation...

Stupid weapon imo, the reload delay is just horrendous. Whenever I see anyone using it I just start laughing, wait for the attack and just WALK up and bash their heads in...

Yea, when I first got it found out about this fatal flaw the hard way after I fully upgraded it. Now I try to use it at a distance or on less expeirenced players close up they dont want to get close. Its a good way to pressure them but not great for much else. Its also so easy to dodge it dont even have to roll. Its good for finishing people off to if you low on health.

I am amazed as how few use Bows in PvP. they are faster, and you can depend upon them with different arrow types, as well as more so upgrade it in different fasions (you can't obtain an Occult Crossbow, but you can get an Occult Bow). The Crossbows, both light and heavy, would be more suited for PvP, as its one bolt does more damage than the two out of the three bolts from the three-shooter. And, the animation is faster VIA reloading. If you want a crossbow, get those two.

I love my Lightning Avelyn - throw in some lighting bolts and its attack interruption capability is fantastic. It has saved my butt more than once. You are correct the reload animation will get you killed so properly judging the distance between you and your opponent is imperative. Also, it should not be used against targets moving perpendicular to your position since you will most likely miss. If you are worried about proximity you can always switch to sniper bolts for additional standoff capability. In my opinion it is a phenomenal mid-range weapon when used for interdicting opponents. Optimally, its best use is for finishing off opponents or harassment - the fact you can deal medium damage at range is the beauty of the weapon. I have killed many opponents when they were able to get some separation after trading blows - just as they were about to estus. If you are PVPing with an ally it can provide cover fire if they are attacked - providing an opening for either escape, backstab, counter-attack.

Many people don't use this weapon - but for PvPing I will take it over a bow any day of the week (just my opinion).Some weapons have a niche use in this game and I believe I have found it for my sweet Avelyn.

I always start a fight with my composite bow +14. If poison arrows take effect, I switch to fire arrows until they get too close.

i use a heavy crossbow on pvp, reg it does about 180 and that with one bolt, the lightning avelyn does 250 or 300 the most so i went with the heavy crossbow, after i did some tests on pvp i ended up picking the reg path instead of the lightning.
