    Quelana's appearance Empty Quelana's appearance

Post by ublug Sat Jan 05, 2013 7:27 pm

I have tried on a lot of different characters to make her appear without a +10 flame, but have failed every time. Having a +10 glove is the only way I can make her available.

So I started to look into online features, to see if it had some sort of session requirement like the sunbro covenant. I have done a lot of low level co-op sessions in blighttown lately, but that didn't help either. So I started to check if she was there during co-op sessions, and she was there more or less every session the host had summoned a powerful player.

So I tried it myself, and after summoning my first sunbro she appeared. So it looks like a +10 glove is required, but you don't need one yourself, any of your phantoms can have it.
I also tried to test if she appeared when being invaded by a twink (with a +10 glove) before I tried to summon a phantom, since I only had one shot at making her appear, but I never got invaded.

There might be more to this as well. Have any of you made her appear without a +10 glove, either offline or with no summoned phantoms?

Kill Quelaag. She always appears once you kill Quelaag.

    He knows.

The point of this thread is what triggers Quelana appearence without having a +10 glove.

After doing many offline speedruns, and always checking if she was there, I Think that I already saw her there without the glove, but its been a long time and I can't confirm.

But! 80% of the time, I summon Mildred. Maybe its something related

I never have a +10 glove and she always appears after I kill Quelaag, even without discovering the Chaos Servants. I doubt Mildred has anything to do with it but I usually summon her.

Just had her appear the other day without having done anything. No Pyromancy flame at all, Quelagg still alive. Nothing. Mildred was dead, but I doubt that's it.

Not for me for whatever reason, unless they changed it in a patch.

I made the mistake of killing all the bosses, and then trying to upgrade my glove so I could trade with Snuggly, without ever having talked to her. sad

I have just started a new build and was at BlightTown last night. On my way to fight Qu she was not there.I never looked on my return to see if she had shown up once Qu was dead.My glove is at +6 at the mo so she shouldnt be.I did how ever summon someone.He/She was wearing the right gear to state it was not a post patch BB player so hopefully they will not have triggerd her to apear.I will look into this.......Quelana's appearance 3149687655

It seems obvious that there is no single thing that makes her appear, but instead there are multiple variables. The odd thing is that sometimes those variable will cancel each other out. I've had her be absent for entire playthroughs and also had her be there the moment I got to Blighttown. If I notice a pattern I'll let you all know.

I've had 3 characters now (one with a Pyromancer starting class) where I didn't bother with upgrading my flame or doing much in the way of pyromancy at all other than obtaining some useful ones like Combustion and she appears. The one time I focused my efforts into getting a +10 glove before arriving at her she didn't appear at all, I tried upping my int or attunement but nothing helped.

When I started my Dex/Int character I went to Blighttown immediately after escaping Undead Asylum, to get Power Within and to kill Quelaag. On the way there, I didn't bother to look, but on the way to fight Quelaag, already with PW, Quelaana was already sitting there.

Except for Asylum Demon, I haven't killed a single boss, nor did I even had a Pyromancy Flame in the first place.

I have no idea how I triggered this, perhaps it is related to PW, but I doubt it.

The character was online, on PS3, without BB glitch and on NG.

In my DkS guide book it states there are 2 factors for making her show.1 is what we already know that is your Pyro glove must be +10.......The 2nd is you must not have killed the BOC in Izalith....I am thinking that for some reasion it will over look you not having a pyro +10 glove and read that you have not killed the BOC so she will show up for some players and not for others until they have a plus 10 pyro glove imo........

Yeah, I've had the same experience several times. I keep hearing that you need a +10 glove, but I've only ever done that with 1 or 2 of my toons, and she's almost always there for me. I usually do Blight Town human though, so maybe I'm getting invaded by people who have em? I dunno. In fact it seems like the only times I ever have problems getting her to show are the times I'm actually trying to get her to.

Never really even looked with other characters since I have my main and that's it pretty much but....

On my first playthrough she never appeared. I ended up with a +10 glove but I can't be sure if it was before or after killing the Wizard of Ozalith (Aka Bed of Chaos).

I believe she was waiting for me in NG+ but it's been a long long time.

So I'm using the character I made for bunnywink's tournament right now to help another forum member with something. He's SL5, didn't even enter the Depths, speak to or save Lorentius, has a pyro flame plus 2 from another toon that I had bunny mule me, has no pyro spells, hasn't taken part in a single online interaction other than bunny's mule in the burg, and Quelana is there.

Well I know I didn't. I can't speak for Bunny with any certainty, but judging from her general attitude I'd say no. Can't say for sure though again.

On top of that, I just went through with another new toon I'm working on today, who did save Lorentius, has a plus 5 pyro flame, a bunch of Loretius' pyro spells, and has been PvPing/Co-oping since the Burg, and she's not there.

I'm going to reiterate my first theory and say that the game is reading your mind and she's just not showing up when you actually need to buy something from her.

    Hmm... thank you.

Based on my and Ublug's testing, it seems like obtaining a +10 pyro, or also having a phantom enter your game with a +10 pyro, will trigger her appearance. However, we're still stuck finding out if there's another trigger.

We ruled out things like defeating Quelaag, talking to Quelaan, joining the chaos covenant, ringing the bells, etc.

Yeah, I definitely hadn't done any of those things, save ringing the first bell, which I wouldn't think would be related on its own. I'd just gotten down to the swamp floor on my first run with that toon. I'll ask bunny what she's got that's pyro related in that toon's inventory.

Edit: bunny just got back to me. She did have a +10 pyro flame. I guess that just makes my experience more proof towards your theory, as I'm pretty sure that's the only theorized trigger I implemented.
