This is my personal theory on Manus, and his connections with the furtive pygmy and the Dark soul, so without further ado.... let my mindless speculation, begin...
Im going to start off by linking Manus with the Furtive Pygmy... well, I am going to go as far as to say Manus IS the furtive Pygmy.
What first gave me the idea Manus is the Pygmy is one of Elizbeth's lines:
"But Princess Dusk is here no longer, snatched away by that horrifying primeval human"."
Primeval human, eh? lets have a look at what that even means: "Belonging to the first or earliest age or ages; original or ancient"
Primeval means first or most ancient of something, who was the first ever human with humanity? The Pygmy! A hollow can only be classed as a human when he or she has humanity.
Each piece of humanity you will ever come across in-game is a fragment of the Dark soul, which is used by hollows to become human.
Once the pygmy found the dark soul, he (Maybe?) split it among all the hollows in the world, turning them human. Save the few entity's who found lord souls... how they took on a human form, (apart from Nito and Seath) I dont know.
Your probably wondering why im telling you all this, I have a good reason, trust me.
I think when the pygmy split the soul, he left himself the largest slice of the cake, in other words, he now has more of the Dark soul than any other human. I dont see the Dark soul simply as an object witch contains a large amount of power, to me it is more of an living thing, completely aware of its surroundings, with a burning desire to engulf the world in the abyss. But it cant do that when its broken and weak, luckily, the Pygmy got greedy and took too much of the Dark soul, due to this, the Dark soul is able to manifest its self in the Pygmy's body and take the form of Manus, Father of the Abyss.
The broken pendant. Honestly, I see it as a bait used to lure adventures to there fates so the Dark soul can take there humanity.
It MIGHT have a much bigger purpose, I dont know. But it is not, in anyway, linked to the pendant. That makes zero sense...
I think the humanity sprites in the abyss are shards of the Dark soul it has re-collected.
they are drawn towards you, they show no signs of aggression they just drift toward you.
"Sorcery of Manus, Father of the Abyss. Grant a fleeting will to the Dark of humanity, and volley the result.
The will feels envy, or perhaps love, and despite the inevitable trite and tragic ending, the will sees no alternative, and is driven madly towards its target."- Pursuers description
this in my opinion, backs my theory of the Dark soul is attempting to re-collect its self, it has no reason to attack you... it is simply acting of instinct.
Well thats it, that is my theory. If I am wrong on anything (Which I probably am) Then feel free to correct me, good luck lore hunting!
