does anyone know if there's any significance to there being 3 different asylum demons/ stray demon/ and firesige demon?

^ So? I guess the chubby demons are just less common than the taurus and capra demons. And keep in mind that the asylum demon is actually very weak, he just seems stronger cause you're not well equipped when you fight him. In fact he has less HP than the lesser taurus demons in the demon ruins. So lesser is but a term really.

I like the descendants idea. Asylum is the baby. Stray is the daddy.. and Firesage is their long lost cousin from izalith

The Demon Firesage was the original demon that was created by the BoC not to mention that it was the last to master the art of pyromancy. You could find that in the description of the Demon's Catalyst that the Firesage drops.

There isn't much to be said about the Asylum Demon, except that they are thought of as lesser demons when compared to the other demons and it shows with how easy he is to kill. The only significance with the Asylum demon is that it is noted in the Demon's Great Hammer description that there are probably more than just that one of it's kind.

Now the Stray Demon itself is a bit of an interesting demon. Mainly because it has the same fighting style as the Firesage. We all know that it uses the same type of pyromancy as the Firesage, yet it is said that the Firesage is the last of the Demons that has mastered pyromancy. I think that because of this the Stray Demon, while being turned into a demon after the Firesage may also have full mastery of the art of pyromancy. Also take note of the fact that it isn't simply named as a Demon Firesage, instead it is simply named Stray Demon which probably implies that there are more than just this one type of demon. It is either one of two things this demon is one of many demons that was at one point a human that had full mastery of pyromancy, or there are demons that have been taught by the Firesage in the original art of pyromancy in this case the knowledge of that original art is now being passed down through the demon ranks.

My best guess is that the Chaos Flame didn't rage out of control the moment it was birthed. Instead, the Witch/her daughters attempted to use the flame to create soldiers/guardians for Izalith.

The "chubby" demons, based on the statues in the Demon Ruins, were the ones they created before they lost control of the flame.

You mean the stone demons? I'd think that that's the best explanation for their existence. I've never found any real lore surrounding them.

The "archetype of three" is common in literature... meaning books, movies, and even videogames! The three just ensues some sort of natural mental significance to us humans. It's kind of an appealing little connection we can make to past bosses as we progress through the game.

It's more than likely that as Shkar said that they were created by the Witches of Izaltih before the Chaos Flame went out of control. They might also be citizens of Izalith turned into demons (explaining why there are so many near the BoC). It's all just speculation because there really isn't lore that mentions the stone demons.
