    A Lot of New Blood

Post by SunlightCrusader on Wed Jan 16, 2013 5:22 am

So I have noticed that in recent times (yes despite being inactive I look in on occasion) there has been a lot of new blood on the forums and less of the old guard which I like to think I am part of. In some ways it is nice to see new faces but at the same time the lack of the people who made this community what it is (Acidic not the least among them) is troubling. My main worry is that the relative publicity of Dark Souls 2 will draw in the people that kill forums for me. I mean we always have had the occasional one (remember the ps3 controller for computers incident where the poster made a second account just to bring it back up and was shut down by literally every active member until the mods saved them?) but nothing major. The admins and mods on these forums are the best I have seen but even they can only do so much if we start to get the crowds that normally use sites like Gamefaqs. Maybe I worry needlessly but I felt I needed to say something.

P.S. : Stop comparing the Souls games to other rpg's. They are not comparable as Souls games are different in almost every regard. This is mainly aimed at the people in the Dark Souls 2 section.

Thank you for your time. Bow

Oh and hi everybody who remembers me. Wave

I'm actually happier than some people left or are inactive right now (some are people I blocked). I think the forum is perfect at moment, Forum is back, and Tolvo is making posts again!!!! The covenant section isn't as active though so it's a bit boring, at least there isn't much flaming going on. But we had a forum wide event and it was great, lots of new guys to fight. And the PvP section everyone is asking for help and I love tweaking their builds. I'm not paying much attention to the DkS2 section. I'm glad to see you again. If you are worried of the old members leaving then don't go!!!!

I miss the "Old Guard" as you described them.

Billy, Dough, Amos, and all the crew.

Hmm well I suppose ignoring the Dark Souls 2 section and the inactivity of the Cov section it isn't bad. I suppose I'm more worried about where it could go than where it is. Sorry this is the only forum I ever really got into so I am worrying a bit. I know most new guys are probably cool but I'm worried the bad apples may spoil the bunch. Yeah I need to be more active I know. Maybe I will see about reviving the Deliverance if I can. And yeah Viral so do I. I just worry a bit is all.

At the very least I should be on Skype regularly since it is open in the background on my laptop and Kindle Fire whenever I get on them. Anyways Skype chats tend to get... well a bit more interesting than forum ones. Admittedly they are rarely Dark Souls related after like 5 minutes but still.

Trust me, you don't want to be on skype while I am.

All I do is ***** about when I die due to how rusty I am at the game now.

I miss pretty much everyone except for the few who have been banned. Even if I didn't get along with some people, I believe everyone brought something to the forum.

I don't think it is really a bad thing to have new blood, sometimes the odd person comes in that causes a bit of trouble. But we just have to try and make who we can feel welcome, educate people about the game, and try to get them integrated into the forum. There are many times where we have people that may come off at the very start as a bit unfit, but usually it's because its their first post.

Just give people time, eventually they'll become the new old guard.

You know who I truly miss?

As much as I may get flamed for this, Earl Jones. He may have been trouble, but it was funny trouble.

Ooh and Frost, he was a pain but I'll never forget the written unwritten.

I liked frost too digi though you gotta admit his line in the end was he'd just say whatever he wanted and screw the consequences, just for laughs.

I got on well with Earl Jones too, but if you get banned 4 times over you kinda don't deserve to get on the forum anymore.. Look Skyward

Frost is still around. Not on these forums though.

Btw, did Anteater leave on his own this time or was he banned again?

New blood is good (to be honest, it's needed. Things get stale without new voices/personalities around); but I can't help but feel a little depressed when some of the old guys go away.

Oh well, at least Tolvo is back and better than ever and Serious is contributing again - that's encouraging news. big grin

Anyway, everybody here was once new blood as well. As veterans, you should give them a chance and guide them into the fold.

New blood is by no means a bad thing. I was new blood at one point. My main worry is thay as Dark Souls gains popularity we may attract the wrong kind of new blood. At the moment all seems well though the Dark Souls 2 section annoys me. I couldn't tell you why but it does. I worry more about the future than the present. I just worry. I really like these forums.
