First game armor choice - Advice needed

So I've gotten to the point where I'm lacking the ability to take a couple hits, and I figured I should upgrade my armor a bit more before proceeding too much further into the game...

But before I go willynilly upgrading my current armor set, I figured I'd check to see if there's not something better for how I play, or readily available that I might've missed.

I'm hoping for something that'll see me through the rest of my playthrough if possible~

I'm currently SL 50, using Melee with Pyro backup (BK Halberd + Hollow Shield). My current armor set is the Gargoyle Helm, with +3 Elite Knight in the rest.

Let me know your recommendations, reasoning would also be good as I might not see the benefits of the armor at first glance.

I have an extra point in either Vit or End, I can't check right now~

And no plans to PvP with this character~

Also, I can't believe I forgot to mention, I'm just up to Sen's Fortress.

gets ur poise up, can fast roll. the swords aoe is nice aswell. and a little higher hp.
i would skip the iron flesh tho

Can't believe I forgot to mention where I was up to, haha~

Only just got to Sen's Fortress, so I'm not close to the Obsidian Greatsword.

Also, the weapon would have to be a significant upgrade, since I've already +5'd my Halberd~ Probably would've picked a different weapon to spend my Twinklings on, but this is my first time playing so I'm making some mistakes, thankfully the weapons pretty good as far as damage goes~

And yeah, I only had the Flesh for my fight with the Hydra, but I didn't actually need it. He's a lot less scary when you get past his water attacks~

i could help u out with gear etc for a good pve char, but would be easier to help u if i knew ur lvl cap =)

I'm not planning to limit the character in any way, so whatever the highest level is for the Pyromancer starting class is my cap hehe.

I'm new to the game, so this character is pure PvE and for learning the game until I can get some online access and can PvP, if I'm still interested at that point.

So yeah, my only restriction is where I'm at in the game, and my playing style~

Well there is always the classic choice, getting the stone set in the Darkroot Forest. In Sen's Fortress there is also the Crestfallen Merchant if you are almost to the boss already, he sells the Catarina, and Steel sets. The steel set would probably be easier for you to upgrade.

Hrm... Stone set looks like it might be too heavy at the moment, plus I think it's in the scary area of the woods I haven't managed to go through without dying horribly.

Upgrading to a Steel Chest could be a good move though~ Should only need 1 Endurance to use it without flopping around like an idiot when dodging~

I'll look into it when I get to the Merchant~
