    About Kalameet Empty About Kalameet

Post by barrywilkins Tue Jan 15, 2013 4:30 am

I want to make a character thats all about the dragon slaying, and as such I need to know the best ways to fight the mightiest dragon in the game. Few key questions that need answering before I build the character.

    1. What level would people generally be doing this boss? I plan to co-op as a Sunbro for this boss. I'd like to remain in the lower ranges (anything below 100 really)

    2. Damage types to defend against. I just read the wiki page on him, it said that his fire attack does split damage between physical and magic, is there anyone who knows if this is true or not?

    3. Damage types to focus on. I mostly want to shoot him with a bow, as i know that magic damage isn't very effective against him. How about fire, lightning, or physical?

    4. Bleed! Is Kalameet even able to bleed? I've killed him with an iiato before, and I don't recall him ever bleeding out.

    5. Poison/toxic. I know most bosses can actually be poisoned/toxified, but is Kalameet one of them? If so, is it even practical?

If no one has these answers, I'll be more than happy to test all of it out and post zee results here.

Kalameet's fire deals Magic Damage, and can easily break your guard. Personally I'm working on a build for him that uses Havel's Shield and Gough's Bow. If there is another summon or host, you can simply stay at a range and take him down, it's actually really nice because you can just shoot his tail while they distract him. A mix of Havel's set and the Stone Guardian set have really high magic resistance, as well the Painting Guardian and Xanthous sets have really high magic resistance too. Being fast moving is quite a good idea against him due to his ability to become highly offensive and attack one after another, as well the fact that he can do his Calamity ability which you cannot block. He has high resistance from what I've seen, so I'd suggest just going one damage type such as physical.

Something like this is what I'd roll against Kalameet.

That sounds great. I'd love a chance to co-op with you on this. I'm usually in around the 50-65 sl range when I get to Kalameet if that helps.

I think I can confirm that his breath attack is partly magic damage as my current Mage build can be one-shotted only when wearing the crown of Dusk and the Crest Shield is good for blocking most of its power.

I've not yet been in a position to try lightning weapons on him, but lore suggests he should be weak to it. Magic is not particularly effective, but it will do some damage. There's a technique online discussing how to use the Gough"s great bow against him from a ledge. Perhaps that's an option?

Finally, I'd like to make a suggestion: experiment and find a way to make a tail cut happen with decent regularity. Your summons will love you for it. Praise the Sun

You can block his breath with Crest Shield as well, but it will break your guard soon. Havel's, or Stone are much better.

For damage... I've tried everything I can as a Dex and he just shrugs it off. He seems to be immune to all Aux effects as well.

Spells work, but he likes to evade them by jumping to sides and he can one shot anyone he lands on and it's impossible to predict the direction, because he decides to do this jump, even if the caster is facing his sides, or back.

Miracles are great against him, especially Spear ones and GMB will drastically reduces his breaths damage.

Pyromacies work well too, but they have too few casts to kill him with it. One good strategy is to run close to him when he does a long attack and use Fire Tempest, that hurts him a lot.

On of my phantoms had a BKGA and did quite a lot of damage to him and even cut off his tail pretty fast, so I'd recommend that, or BK Halberd. Perhaps Str weapons in general are a good way to fight Kalameet.

I like the idea of a Kalameet CooP build a lot. I would be interested in hearing about what SL's get the most action.

Don't know which build you plan to use, although if you want to help people cut off that tail, you should know that the Dragonslayer Greatbow works F'ing miracles on that beast.

If you have the right positioning to handle that oversized doublesided spoon that is... silly

Fast rolling, or having a heavy shield for blocking his fire is advised if you use a bow. He'll actually go right for you after you hit him. I've found it to be pretty good to sit relatively close to him, fire a dragonslayer arrow hitting his tail, then switch to my shield and backing up. This might even give your host a few free hits on his tail as he targets you.

I can also confirm the magic damage part of his breath attacks. I killed him using a technique that would work wonders as a distraction technique to let the host attack the tail with range attacks. Dark Magic and some magic actually works pretty well against him, doing around as much damage as my +15 Great Scythe did. I know magic is meant to be higher damage than a lot of melee but to be able to deal melee damage consistently from range was nice on this jerk.

Anyway, the key here is not getting hit a whole lot so practice was my best weapon. The strategy is to know exactly how far away you need to be to not get hit with breath attacks. Retreating usually makes him lumber at you. Eventually he'll attack when he's in range. All of his attacks are super telegraphed so it's then a matter of knowing if you need to dodge left/right (dive attack, straight fire breath, melee attacks), or a slow retreat (sweeping breath attack) or rapid rolling (Calamity attack, breath attack when you're close). After you're out of harm's way, it's easy to get a cast in. Dark Bead, Pursuers, and the Homing Mass spells do a good deal of damage to him and with a good amount of slots you can get a lot of casts. You can also get a bow (composite is easiest) or crossbow shot off during this time with little chance of repercussion. This is the only boss I've ever beaten with a sorcery strategy and it was pretty easy, just time consuming (so were my close call melee attempts though).

Another strategy you can encourage the host to do is high risk/reward but can be great if you have a brave partner. Try to get Kalameet to fight you in the smaller arena he starts the battle in. He dives more often and the closing distance (and free tail shots) is shorter for a second person. He will use Calamity and the upright breath attack more often though so you really need to know where the walls are. Rolling repeatedly in the same spot thanks to a rock isn't going to get you out of the fight alive.

The one a only time I killed him was with my sl99 Cairan cosplay build. Full lords blade set with both of the tracers and nothing else. It was a *****.

Based on some people's experiences it leads me to think his breath attacks deal three types of damage. Phys/magic/fire.
