Dark Souls New Patch Empty Dark Souls New Patch

Post by CaligoIllioneus Thu Dec 20, 2012 4:57 pm

I couldn't find the patch notes yet, but I have checked and the goal of this patch is to remove hacking from the PC version

    1) Cheat Engine no longer works. happy
    2) Some stereo sounds also got fixed.
    3) Unconfirmed: Key to the Seal bug may be fixed.

    ***

    Unintended consequences:

    1) FPS unlocker option of DSFix causes the game to don't start / crash Fixed
    2) Logo skip .dll causes an error (but the logo skip option of DSFix works well so this is a non issue).

    ***

DSFix and Mouse fix work flawlessly outside the FPS unlock option (texture override still works, etc)

    ***

I'll try to update the thread if there are other stuff that end up making the game crash / not work.

    -----

EDIT: DSFix 2.0 is here! FPS unlock works again. Get it here.

    Also, while unconfirmed:

Holy s***. Is it me or is the performance WAY better now? 60 fps almost everywhere.

    Durante:

    I didn't say anything because I didn't want to change people's
perception, but it seems to me like the game is a bit less CPU heavy
now. It would make sense, there are significant code changes in the
    binary.

    Courtesy of Neogaf.

I had also made a mistake and trainers still work

This is great news. I see no reason for anyone to not play the pc version now if they own it.

I can't say for sure, but I found this on Steam:

I just killed Ingward with arrows on NG+ before getting the lordvessel
and I got the key. I don't know if I was lucky or it was because of the
patch, but I got it anyway.

If they fixed it then it's great news, since if your game got messed up with that glitch the only way to fix it was using Cheat Engine, which is off limits now. Anyways I recommend making a save backup before trying....

I don't know why you think the intent of the patch was to disable trainers and such, while breaking the 60 FPS patch was just an unintended consequence. It could easily be the other way around. Or maybe they didn't directly intend for these things to be affected at all. That's the one I'm betting on, since the 60 FPS unlock/cheats/etc are all fixable anyway.

And DSfix does not work flawlessly outside of the 60 FPS unlock. The SSAO and FXAA options aren't working either.

AFAIK, beyond affecting fan mods, the only thing that's been 100% confirmed about what the patch changes is, it fixes the downmix to stereo problems.

The main intent was removing hacks. I know this for sure. The FPS unlocker works akin to a hack (third party messes with the game) so it got disabled too, as an unintended consequence. SSAO and FXAA work well here....

. It could easily be the other way around. Or maybe they didn't directly intend for these things to be affected at all.

Why would anyone on their sane mind have removing 60 FPS as a goal with removing cheating as an unintended consequence? And you can't disable those kind of programs without intending to do it.

If the intent behind the patch was to remove the hacks, then it's a waste of time and money because it's futile. The FPS unlocker will be fixed, along with the trainers and cheats.

For SSAO and FXAA, I'll just refer you to this thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=488240&page=123

I don't think the trainers will be fixed. The CE hacks maybe, if they find a way through, but the basic trainer? Nah. And 75% of the hackers were trainer users anyways.

And that thread confirms nothing, there are even posts saying it all works well except the FPS unlocker. My game looks the same as usual so I guess SSAO and FXAA do work.

Sorry for double post, but I'm bumping as important things are added to the OP.

It also seems I made a big mistake, and trainers still work...awww. I'm very, very sorry for the misinformation. I had heard that they didn't work, and since CE doesn't work I concluded that the information was correct, when it wasn't.

    Cons:
    *Most hackers are trainer users.
*CE users will probably find a way thorugh this soon.

Pros: The worst hackers (the ones that can really messs up your game) have to use CE. We're safe from those for the moment.

    First PC game maybe?

This happens when ANY PC game gets patched. None of the cheats/hacks whatever work anymore. This is because the patch changes values that the programs use. They did NOT do this on purpose.

Bleh... Cheat engine uses a lookup, and operates with values stored in memory. You should make a new lookup each time you start the game anew, since it gets allocated a new memory range... I never used that for DkS, but it was quite handy in any other offline game. And regarding on-line cheating - it can be removed only by adding a server with a verifier (which is expected to be in DkS 2), since P2P connection is not really hack-secure... It will end up in a possibility of offline cheating, but really - who cares about that? %)
ed: A simple way (theoretically, on the development stage) is to use a custom "scrambler" function to read/write the values from/to the memory and transform them to the ones you see on the screen. This trick makes the program immune to CE type hacks. But on the other hand will drastically increase the load on CPU.

Don't know if this is from the latest patch but I realized the time it takes for the poison meter to fill up has been greatly reduced. I remember being in Blighttown and it taking about 2 seconds or less for the poison to take effect. Now it takes about 5 to 7 seconds, somewhere around there, I'm not in front of the game at the moment.
Another thing I've noticed is the Slab drop rate from the darkwraiths has been increased, quite a bit or else I've been extremely lucky ever since the update. I got 3 from the first 4 lizards in the Great Hollow. I got a slab on the 3rd DW today and last week I was able to get 2 slabs in 30 min farming DW's in NLR's. I remember it taking 30 min at least to get one if not 60 plus minutes. Like I said I may be just lucky, but that's why I'm posting this. If anyone else has been getting more slabs or if its actually been confirmed, let me know.

Doesn't the FPS unlock feature may cause a permanent ban from GFWL?

i play with unlocked fps but still set the limit to 30 fps. don't know if that answers the question for you, but i got no problems with gfwl so far.

i wouldn't set the frame rate any higher cause i think the gameplay gets messed up, as dks was clearly designed to run at 30 fps. i played a lot on console before i got the pc version and so i'm kinda usesd to it.

i also realised that for some reason my game runs way soomther that way. i dont know what it is, but after the new patch with dsfix, fps unlock + frame limit @ 30 fps, my game runs almost without any drops and looks just great. maybe one reason why i refuse to go back to the console version...
