Dragon King Greataxe
Is there anyway possible to make a this weapon viable? I love the AoE attack but not scaling with anything sucks.. Any strategy or tips?

Re: Dragon King Greataxe
all the dragon weapons are viable, quite good for a STR actually, its just that most people agree that a STR weapon will almost allways be outclassed by a DEX weapon. go for a SL 120 high poise no roll build, that should be good enough to make it competitive

that would work quite nicely, your main obvious problem will me movement, but unless your willing to go almost poiseless there's nothing we can do about that.Jiub of Carim wrote:I was thinking about using the Dragon Axe with Steel armor, Artoria's Great shield and pyromanciesraecor14 wrote:all the dragon weapons are viable, quite good for a STR actually, its just that most people agree that a STR weapon will almost allways be outclassed by a DEX weapon. go for a SL 120 high poise no roll build, that should be good enough to make it competitive

Re: Dragon King Greataxe
the AOE attacks is perfect for preventing backstabs. Its a fine weapon, with a bit less damage than other greataxes at 40 STR. definitaly viable and most importantly: It looks awesome!

The stunlock was nerfed post patch for greataxes, since almost no one use them you don't see much complaining, but that made them almost useless. I would use fast roll for the roll R1 360 swipe is pretty good unless you face a bs fisher.

The best thing it has is that it can be buffed imo.

^What Wyrm said, try to get at least 15 INT in order to be able to buff it with GMW. Will help its viability out a bunch.

Re: Dragon King Greataxe
Does a buff effect the AoE damage? Like if i used DMB would the AoE scale with it? What about added damage for resins?

Re: Dragon King Greataxe
I think so, the AoE attacks seem to get a boost from the buffs.
Don't bother with the Resins, they won't do too much for you.

This. I'm also pretty sure the dragon weapons give you stat bonuses if you're a dragon. I've never done it myself, but I'm fairly sure I've read that
Yeah, they do give you stat bonuses. At least according to the wiki. May not even need to be a dragon. I'm not too sure. I don't use the dragon weapons very often.

Re: Dragon King Greataxe
You could try going for the minimum requirements on a low sl character. That's usually when dragon weapons shine

Also, fight unlocked. That way you can aim behind you (if they are trying to BS you) and adjust your attack (during the animation) to aim it better.

Re: Dragon King Greataxe
I would make a fragile low level character with 34 Str (To wield it 2h) and try to oneshot lower level players with it. Buffing with GMW isn't a bad idea, but it's not a huge step up from the resins.

Huh? resins are 80 and 150 AR for fire and lightning respectively. Those numbers mean squat when you factor in defenses though.

Re: Dragon King Greataxe
Resins add no less than 150 AR of that element to their weapon. It usually translates to an increase of 20-50 damage on the enemy. I agree that GMW is a good buff for the stat investment, but it's not a huge step up from 150 lightning damage that gold resin would give you.Carphil wrote:Ghadis_God wrote:I would make a fragile low level character with 34 Str (To wield it 2h) and try to oneshot lower level players with it.
