I use a Shotel +15 w/ DMB on my Lautrec build. I love the unblockable strong attack but i'm constantly out ranged. Any advice?

Run up to your opponent, swing it, and hope they don't parry? It plays the same as the other curved swords in general, poise through your opponent's counterattack if you're not fast rolling.

Its hard to poise through. I wear the Set of Favor w/ the Ring of Favor as well as Ring of the Firstborn. I have 50 faith, SL 120. Should I swap the Ring of Firstborn for the Wolf Ring?

Wait for casting/using items and hit till death.
Or just approach - kick - hit x4 - roll back - repeat

It's not a good idea to use Shotel exclusively, because it is easy to outrange, outrun and parry. It's a great suprise weapon and works wonders against turtles, but it's not meant to be your main offensive weapon.

I'd advise to start using something else with the Shotel, or use TWoP, so your opponents can't run away, but long weapons and parry capable opponents will still trash you.

Lastly, don't use it's R2 too much. Most players expect R2 spam if they see a Shotel, so try using R1s instead and mix them together.

Any legit use for the slash-backflip/"kick animation" with curved sword?

Not really, you can do it as the last hit of a combo if you don't want to end your stunlock in front of the enemy with no stamina. It's weak and can be parried though, not really viable.

That is my main weapon in my SL 6 invasion toon. I'm going up against an average of 33 SL. I run up and go crazy. If they try to parry, then I'll vary my R2 timing a little. If they parry spam, then I'll casually walk behind them and BS them.

I like the shotel. I use it as a backup weapon to my Balder's Side Sword with my lvl 22 Sunbro. It is also great to use when invading into small areas where there isn't a lot of room to manuever like the Catacombs and Tomb of Giants.

What armor do you wear with this set up? Probably something light to maneuver quick around opponents . My problem is I wear the Set of Favor with Havel's Ring and RoFaP . I still have trouble against people with a lot of range . Especially the Great Scythe!

Perhaps the Dragonslayer Spear? I have it at +5 from when I was going through PvE. Is it any good for PvP? I've heard it cannot be parried? Perhaps thats good with the shotel and its unblockable r2?

Whoever told you the demon slayer spear can't be parried is an idiot. It's the strongest spear with average dex and strength, but parrying is a big problem when I use it. In fact, it's the strongest AND has one of the best ranges.

So then I should be using it! I have 40 DEX, 24 STR, and 50 FAT. Sound good?

The damage and range should be outstanding for you. And since it's a spear, the left-hand attack should come out pretty quickly too. If you're decent with rolling, this spear should actually outperform a shield.

Depending on your covenant level, DMB is stronger. However, Sb can't be made useless by Great Magic Barrier.

I tend to swap to shotel, while having a better main weapon. Shotel is great though, just not the best weapon to use by itself. especially if you're doing a lautrec cosplay. Maybe spam parry, and if they go for a backstab do an unlocked strong attack. If timed well that could be fairly effective. All about timing.

I've been off-handing the Dragonslayer Spear with the Shotel. Its been effective in some situations but the equipment load is awkward for me. I've also tried switching between the shotel and a claymore. My friend whom I've been Pvp-ing with says the shotel is OP. I've told him he's a turtle! He using the damn Black Knight Great Axe, I shouldn't even be able to get close to him.
