    Build a Boss Workshop!

Post by Slarg232 on Wed Jan 09, 2013 1:43 pm

So we got one for everything else, might as well have a thread for making bosses. Have fun with it, but at least be semi-serious silly

    Optional Boss:

    Fun King Gai
A Mushroom about three times as tall as a Mushroom Man, and as you can imagine he hits equivelantly hard. You fight him in a room like Nito's Lair, though it's only as big as the bottom of the Great Hollow. Additionally, you constantly build up poison while in close proximity to him (About 1/4th of the area you fight him in). High magic and lightning resist, vulnerable to fire, however, getting hit by Fire causes him to release a toxic cloud in a wider area.

    Drake mistant
    Spoiler:
looks like this gecko, but with wing stubs, fought in a small dark cave,
it will target light sources with a powerful body slam attack (so you
might not want to wear a maggot hat), can be tricked into body slamming
by dropping prism stones for it to target, other attacks include tail
slashes and a tongue grab and toss attack. incredibly fast.

Make a bird boss, like the giant crow turned into an enemy.

Make a mass-of-tentacles boss. I'm sure this can satiate Lovecraft fans as well.

Make a necromancer that raises hordes of hollows and/or skeletons.

    Make a group of NPC's a boss.

Make areas and bosses that are entirely in/on lava. That can easily be overdone, though.

    Make (a) plant-themed boss(es). (possibly tentacles)

I hope to see something similar to the Storm King. I consider that to be one of the most awesome boss fights I have ever played in video games.

I didn't think the storm king was all that good though. Took too long with a regular bow and it's ridiculously easy once you have the storm ruler.. Kinda badly balanced if you ask me

Make a massive, epic in air boss fight. You could jump from platform to platform fighting an NPC, like Ornstein, but in air. And then, when he is killed for the first time, a bird flies out of nowhere, heals him and spits him on the ground, you sprint off the edge and face him, like the Artorias fight, two men/one woman one man/two women/I've covered all the bases here I hope, no gimmicks just a straight up fight. I'm terrible at naming things though, so you may have to do that for me.

    Make bosses harder?

Like having constantly spawning mobs and much higher health?

Don't care what bosses they have... so long as there aren't 3 of a kind!

But... a werewolf would be nice big grin

I would love a fight against a chariot boss. Shooting at it's wheels can break the chariot, resulting in only the rider to fight. Magic can work to.

Having a 3 on 1 boss would be awesome.. I suspect they'll do it, with some form of 'trinity' mythology behind it, though would need to be worked on a lot.

I think we need a boss that follows you through a level before having a fight in a final boss room. Would work great with a dragon type boss.

Chariot boss would be cool, though horseback could work too.. Or make a boss liek the fat official on the iron boar that is in the artbook? That nice little nod to the previous 2 games would be cool too.

More NPC bosses would be cool. As there seems to be a stronger tone promised to the story, working it into the boss battle rather than lame-*** cutscenes or dialogue would be nice, and would fit the way souls likes to roll. The extra purposeful bosses would be nice too, as most are just like "Kill this thing.. its in the way"

HorseBack would be amazing Serious, and how about 4v1 since we are on the subject of Horses, the 4 horsemen of the apocolypse or something like that. Doesn't seem very Dark Souls-ish but might be cool.

And better purposes of bosses WOULD be nice

I personally loved the lorefilled bosses. Priscilla being the standout of those, so interesting that you are provided the choice to kill her.

Obviously not all bosses should be optional, but linking a few with covenants just like gwyndolin and nito were, as long as they were made lorewise and in story terms interesting, along with giving a nice gift for your trouble.. sunlight blade i think was a very good example of this, erasing the DMB possibility but opening up the blade inspired by his father, poetic almost

Agreed, the lore Is what made Seath mt favourite boss. A lust for knowledge causing him to become crazy and perform experiments on random undead?

    Awesome

I would LOVE to see more boss fights that are difficult. Dark Souls had good ones, but some were too easy.
(Or gimmicky, I'm looking at you BoC)

Fatty, i thought the bosses are plenty hard enough for new players.. it's just seasoned players that find it too easy. I think that really having npc summon signs before every boss gate, while increasing boss difficulty would be the best thing.

I'd like bosses with cool quirks to come back too. Remember the phalanx? The old monk? The invincible fools idol?

I suppose you are right, and I could use the calamity ring to give me a challenge silly

And by Gimmicky I meant BoC, the Phalanx or the Storm King were fine with me, they still required skill and not luck. You were lucky not to get hit by BoC's swipes

Well, once you know the BOC's moves well enough, you can actually manipulate them. You can easily bait all the arm attacks to allow you safe running into his weak spots. Found this especially useful for the final double sweep she does, though it's really easy to dodge once you know to bait and utilise it

i know you didn't mean phalanx etc for gimmicky, thats why i used the word quirk as well, though i think gimmick has too much negative attachment in gaming, it's not just a word used how it is when talking about motion control or getting sweets at the barbers silly

Haha, fair enough quirky it is!

And I see where you're coming from, but still It was frustrating to fight against a boss that can "1 hit you" when it knocks you off as that's all it does.

It's easier to learn Gywn's moves because he doesn't kill me instantly, I have a chance to watch him fight and learn his moves.

And me and BoC don't get on well with each other.

    Alright, I got one:

You're strolling along a long narrow pathway in Lethal Lava Land. You reach a circular platform overlooking a sea of lava. There's a couple of items lying around so you pick them up, but nothing happens. There's nothing else of interest so you decide that it's a dead end and leave. You're making your way back when all of a sudden a you hear a falcon like cry. Instantly, a giant Phoenix flies out of the lava, and begins spewing lava all over the pathway, forcing you to run back to the platform.

The fight itself would be a 2-part fight like 0&S. In the first part, the Pheonix would behave like the Moonlight Butterfly and Ceasles Discharge. It would fly around the platform launching fire attacks, and if you got too far it would use Ceasless Discharges giant heatwave attack. Every now and then it would also perch itself on the edge of the platform so that you could melee it, during which it would have a very low regen factor that healed up to 10% of it's life before taking off again. After depleting it's health it would fall into the lava... and revive.

After coming out of the lava, it's defenses would be raised and it would fly over the area raining fire and lava attacks down on you. After that it would land. While it's on the ground, it would borrow attacks from Kalameet, Queelagg, and Bed of Chaos. Eventually it would begin flying again and the cycle would repeat itself until It's health got bellow 30%. Once it's health go to that point, it fly out of the ring(once it used a Queelagg like explosion attack) and go pack to using it's part 1 attack pattern until it landed on the ledge again.

If you killed it while it was perched or flying around, it would simply fall back into the lava and revive again. If you didn't kill it, then it would fly back over the arena and continue attacking. Eventually it would land on the paltform again, and you'd have to kill it before it had the chance to use the explosion attack. So long as you killed it while it was over the platform, and not flying around it or perched on the edge, it would stay dead.

You know what would be an interesting boss fight? Medusa; look at her, and you're curse meter builds up, so you have to pick you're attacks and stuff.
