one of our two house rabbits died recently and while the other bunny is taking the loss in stride the question of a new pet has come up, some ideas found were a young cat (young so it will grow up used to the bunny) or another bunny but another bunny can be difficult because they don't always get along. any suggestions? and if you know your rabbits or cats well, any suggested breeds etc?

Well I have a cat, you just have to stay close to him/her until 1 year, then all you have to do is remember to feed and clean the sand box, he will spend most time sleeping or in the roof. Its very easy actually

Get a Komodo dragon. Add a lighter and some drunk lizard, and you got yourself a substitute dragon.

    Just food for thought.

On a serious note about lizards: I had a leopard gecko (Spike!) who lived for about 15 years. He was awesome, although not a 'cuddly' pet and he wouldn't interact with your rabbit much. They are pretty easy as Herps go to look after. Kinda your 'entry level' lizard, but they look pretty exotic etc.

You have to be ok with live food though.

If you are at all interested I can give you a bazzilion tips on caring for them etc.

I'd say a cat, because cats are awesome big grin

Care tips? Get a small kitten, keep it in a small room first and teach it to use litter and feeder, then let it start investigating the house. Make sure to pet it plenty and call it by name often so it learns it. If it is naughty, repeat NO in a loud voice without smacking them. Cats care more about shame than physical pain!

Greta Mildred. All you have to do, is grab a lighter, and give the Gecko a few turns of Gem Clear. Wait for it to gasp, and have the lighter up and ready. The dragon will truly show... or the insides would come ablaze along with your hand. Either way, nice Pick.

Ya, I have had about 12 cats, and have about 5 still. Been a long decade and so. Cats are great, and are easy to take care of when their cats and not kittens. Good luck with the pet thing.

    I agree.

I agree as well. My one cat almost got out the other day (he's blind in one eye so he's mostly just an indoor cat) and I stuck my foot out to stop him, but he sort of ran into my foot with his face and I could tell he hit his jawbone pretty solid. He literally just stuck his tail up in the air and ran away, which means he wants me to chase him (tail down means he's mad) and it just made him wanna play.

If I'm yelling or clapping or anything though, even if it's like joyous, he'll freeze up and look real quick to make sure I'm not yelling at him.

thanks for all the replies! My sister wants cat and my mom is is more partial to another bunny preferably a flemish giant breed or rescue bunny. problem with big bunnies like the flemish's is that thier internal organs can flip and cut off circulation to the point of necrotization (how our first big bunny went:cry: ) at this point i'm more partial to a cat as i actually did grow up with one (though she died from hyperthyroid disease after 15 years of life) and would like one in the house again.

heres a pic of our current bunny:

Cats are the best, but I actually hear that squirrels are pretty similar to rabbits taste-wise.
