Up and coming PvP'er: stuck for weapon

Hey all,

I started Dark souls a couple of weeks ago with the purpose of joining the PVP scene, due to the fancy combat etc. Now I had originally started off with the uichikatana because I loved it, but since then I have discovered (to my horror) that the katanas are horribly overused in the PVP scene. Me being me, I only like using at least uncommon weapons, I despise being mainstream.

So, for a poor noob. Which weapons do you think I should go for. I prefer the whole agility rather than heavy armour set up, hence the katana. Any ideas? Many thanks

Gargoyle Tail Axe perhaps? It's very, very fast for an axe, and has high dexterity scaling. It's also practically never used.

Hmm sounds cool. Problem I have with the axes is that the move set is, well, pretty boring. It's all just right hand slash slash overhand slash bla..

Are the whips any good? I hear rapiers are overused too.

The least used Dex weapon in PvP is hands down the Whip.

It is however awful. The reason things are popular is usually because they work.

Claws are pretty much the same as whips. Halberds and scythes are great though.

Alrighty, I'll work towards the scythes then, and when I'm confident ill move onto the more difficult weapons..

if you have a dex build go with the reg scythe, its rarely used and it scales well with dex. the whips are pretty awesome since they do good damage and cant be parried which is awesome against parry spammers. if you like fast weapons try the small curve swords and the balder side sword.

The Great Scythe is overused, but I don't think the regular Scythe is. All I know to tell you with Halberd weapons, is to try to maintain distance and don't miss lol.

I think Straight Sword are pretty uncommon too, with the exception of the Balder Side Sword, so you can try those as well.

You can also maybe try the smaller Str weapons. Hand axe, War Pick, ect. They're pretty fast and uncommon, to my knowledge.

Maybe.. I wasn't originally going to go down with the str route but I may have to...

What about that leeching scythe?

I'm still toying with the idea of double dark hand and Chester armour

server is pretty awesome, its like a smaller murakumo but cooler since everyone is using the mura. shameless plug incoming, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWts9IwFhik that's my server build which is one of my favorite builds, i love it and it great when youre outnumbered or just a duel.

Scythes/halberds are actually pretty hard to use, with the stagger that they have. But if you still want to use them then you could try the regular halberd or the gargoyle halberd. The great scythe is used a lot, so don't use it if you want to be "different".

My suggestions would be the straight sword (regular one). It's good once you know how to use it.
The PGS, it has an insane DPS, and poise just melts away, it's only fallback is that it's so short.

If it's you first dex build you should make it 16/40 so you can use/try all the dex weapons, even the flamberge and silver knight stuff, to get a feel for what you like. Also after using a weapon you will learn how to better fight against it.

Yeah I'm on 22 dex right now and 17 str so still plenty of room.

Ooh PGS does look rather fun! Are the sabres in general used much?

The straight sword is never used though

And people use the falchion and the gold tracer a lot, but very rarely will you see a PGS.

I just read through your first post again. You want to be agile and different.

PGS it is then, it does look like a massive lol too considering its DPS. Any of the sabres used much?

For a low level, a +10 Claw with Charcoal Pine Resin dominates. Fast bleed and attack speed, and nobody uses it.

Mind if i ask...why do you care so much about being different?
Or using fancy weapons with fancy movesets wearing a fancy armor?

Yeah Kinda, I just hate being predictable, element of surprise is good for me. Also having to learn a totally new move set seems fun too..

I'm half joking and half serious, as I'm considering messing with this too. Try using Daggers, not to BS fish or Parry spam, but just for their movesets.

That I know has never been done before, of course other than me to my knowledge.
