Poise Regeneration Test Empty Poise Regeneration Test

Post by Devokai Fri Jan 04, 2013 3:20 am

Hello forum, this has been on my mind lately and I lack the required tools to test it as properly as I'd like. So in the meantime while i try to get a couple people together I thought I'd let you guys have at it. If you think the idea's bad, or could use some more thought, please leave constructive criticism, thanks.

Step by step poise regeneration test breakdown.

    Preparation

Step 1. Acquire 1 non-upgraded weapon of all weapon categories.

Step 2. Acquire various armor pieces that will allow for any amount of poise when required.

    Finding a base line

Step 3. Find a base line, begin with a single weapon type and 2 points lower poise that is required to stun with 2 strikes of that weapon; this will ensure you're barely breaking poise and give a better read on if there's any consistent regeneration. Time this section of the test with a stop watch from an onlooker and video for closer frame/frame analysis.

Step 4. After each successful stun wait to strike again in increasing 1 second intervals, continue this 3 hit pattern with 10 second pauses between each increasing interval test until a base line is achieved or the theory of regeneration or resetting upon stun is disproved. If smaller increments of time are required to be more precise, repeat test in .5 second intervals (or as close as humanly possible)

    Further testing

Step 5. If an accurate reading of poise regeneration is confirmed, continue the tests on larger scale with all weapon types, and then with minimally varied armor sets and weight brackets to determine whether or not they make any noticeable difference in the regeneration rate.

Note: For step 4 of this process I suggest using a 2 handed spear or curved sword as these have the least varied/spaced and well delivered initial r1s and r1 follow ups to ensure timing is correct.

Here is a simple list of various poise break points for anyone who may not know them and wants to try this. http://darksoulswiki.wikispaces.com/Poise

    Thanks in advance. winking

Really useful for this to be chiseled out in stone. Has practical application and it's something I was wondering myself the other day. Nice put together.

Looking forward to this. I know I frames are vulnerable to poise breaking because I remember stunlocking guys who rolled my MLGS attack and when the second hit connected it broke their poise. Some guys say that poise is like the bleed/poison gauge, it does have some kind of hidden cooldown.

Yeah and since the gauge is hidden, it's a bit tricky to determine what goes on after the poise break. It's assumed the gauge has a cooldown pre break, but what happens once that gauge fills and the break occurs? Does the gauge begin to gradually drop? Does it instant reset to zero? If it gradually drops is it still able to be increased? And how does it relate to a stunlock? The operative method in all of this are the events that occur post stun.

From my own experience with it, and obviously I'm just speculating here, I'd think it drops back to 0 pretty quickly, if not immediately, if you don't continue to strike. I don't think I've ever started to attack someone with high poise, had my attacks interrupted, then continued to strike for a more immediate stunlock. That's just my prediction. I'm interested in seeing this fleshed out also.
