    Weapons you regret making

Post by kazumoshi on Fri Jan 04, 2013 9:19 am

I'm sure we've all had this happen; Made a certain weapon thinking it'd be the greatest thing, only to use it in pvp and find out it was the worst mistake you've ever made ever.
Personally, for it me was the chaos blade. Thought I might try it instead of the fury sword, but ended up wasting time, along with ten freshly farmed demon titanite, and a boss soul.

(Yeah, Demon titanite; Not Slabs. My god I would've cried)

    Well to each his own.

I regret making Fire and Lighting shields when I was new. Such a waste of titanite!
I seriously thought, that making them would give me some solid protection against elemental weapons. It would be only logical I suppose, but nooo.

By the time i got to the giant blacksmith on my first playthrough (faith build), i knew you could make the moonlight butterfly horn, but i knew nothing about it other than that it looked awesome. So i decided to make it, even though i had no idea what it does. Not sure what i was thinking.

So i upgrade a spear to +10 (meanwhile thinking "hmm this costs quite some titanite but i'm sure it's worth it") and then turn it into a butterfly horn, still without looking what it does. And then... oh it's a magic weapon. *derp*
I was kinda devastated about it, because i thought the soul would give a lot of souls upon consumption.
Now i know it's only 8000 souls when fed to Frampt silly

Long story short, READ what bossweapons do before making them.

How on gods green earth could you have wasted 10 slabs on a chaos blade?
    It upgrades with demon titanite.

On topic: The mlgs. I'm just awful with great swords.

^ he surely didn't mean to say slab silly
MLGS is a great weapon though, cuz it's one of the only elemental weapons that does pure damage, so the enemies resistance is applied only once. But surely you know that silly

I don't think Forum is saying the MLGS is bad, more that it was bad for him because he is bad with greatswords.

I haven't regretted any for PvP purposes but when I first started I knew I would be making one of each weapon maxed for the trophy. So...my first longbow started to become one of my favorite weapons and I decided "let's make it MAGIC"

    Whoops.

after i got the darksword for the very first time, i decided that i wanted to take it down the occult path. what a wasted effort that was. i already had a divine weapon, what was i thinking Look Skyward

come to think of it, i only ever use either +15 or Chaos weapons. i don't even go for a divine weapon anymore, not even to clear the Catacombs. i still forge all the demon weapons but i rarely use them.

By the way + given for the love of the chaos blade...

    Well to each his own.

Uchigatana is better! It has a thrust and can be buffed.

Also, I regret making the Lightning Avelyn. It's so heavy and useless in PvP unless you can aim without a target lock. On the + side it packs a punch if you use lightning bolts, which happens to be the most expensive amunition in the game.

I was so excited when I killed Shiva, he droped an awesome looking sword. I had some faith and was pretty good with lightning spear (not even great, I had no idea it got better!) So I made it occult, farmed the only place I knew droped green titanite, the blobs in the depths...so divine +5 murakumo... 94 damage to Ornstien.... I cried a little

I was talking about Dex only, no buffs, so Chaos Blade is better for me, because it has extra AR and it's longer. I don't mind 20 HP loss and useless 1H R2 anymore.

However, if I can use buffs, I would always go for Uchi and have to agree with you.

Lightning Avelyn was exceptional before the patch, now, using a +15 with Heavy Bolts is better and the punch, you mentiond should be the same.
I've actually had to go and do a test with Xach. big grin

While it does leave you open to get punished, it's supposed to be a punishing tool by itself. Whenever I see someone crouch down to do a Miracle, or cast Pursuers, or anything else with long animation, they are asking for a nice shot from Avelyn. Especially Faith buffs, that make you crouch are extra vulnerable to this, because you give them a headshot as they have their head lower in the crouch, which not only does more damage, but stops casting, no matter the Poise they have.

It's just too bad, that thanks to the lag, lot of the times, you can't stop the cast, but at least you can do some damage to them. Lot of casters have low Vit, so some 400-ish damage from Avelyn will hurt them a lot.

    +15 broken straight sword.

Nah, just kidding. I like that weapon. But the weapon I do regret is divine great club +10.
I wanted a weapon for clearing the Catacombs on later playthroughs. I thought that the best weapon against skeletons would be some kind of a blunt weapon. The bigger the better. So I took the great club and made it divine. Turned out that the Catacombs were way too cramped for a big weapon like that.

    Well to each his own.

My reasoning to the madness is I guess when trading something like the Claymore for the GLGS, you get enough of a damage boost to make it a decent change (plus the GLGS looks amazing.) The chaos blade doesn't do enough damage for it's lack of utility, and really requires specific armor combos to look good.
Not really a big fan of katanas anyways. medium range, low damage and a lack of flair.

I'm working on one of my old toons currently, trying to make him a bit more viable, and I made pretty much everything he had +10 Divine, including his Crossbow, which in retrospect doesn't make much sense. I'm also finding a lot of raw weapons in his inventory. Not sure where I was trying to go with that garbage.

I really think raw weapons serve absolutely no purpose in this game besides a trophy. They suck ***. So much ***.

Something I regretted was making a Darkmoon Bow. I was a Quality/Int buid and traded in my Pharis Bow +15 for it... I don't know why i did... Composite bow, here I come.

Well at low SL in the beginning of the game, before you have access to elemental weapons, raw bows can sometimes be nice for builds you don't plan on increasing dex for. They'll always be outclassed by elemental stuff once you gain access to em though. Like for the toon I just ran through to the painted world at SL3 for Bunny's tournament. He did way more damage with a raw longbow than he did with a standard one, because I wasn't increasing his stats at all.

I can see that, but fire is easily accessible, more so than raw, in my opinion.

I see your point. It's like elemental weapons, except physical. And crappy later on.
