Dark root gardens bosses & pricilla's dagger Empty Dark root gardens bosses & pricilla's dagger

Post by CephGabriel Wed Jan 02, 2013 9:40 am

    Heya,

Title is pretty self explanatory. I've killed that random boss statue bloke after the first blacksmith (can't figure out how to open the gate for mr onion head, and rung the top bell), and I'm now horribly stuck in darkroot gardens. For a start I seem over my head against the regular guys, I can defeat the trees alright, but the iron giants I can only take one at a time, and just have to skirt around any more than that. I've got a Uichikatana +5 and starting wanderer kit, mayeb I've missed something?

Secondly, the bosses down there are well hard! even with two white phantoms I couldn't kill the many headed serpent guy and I don't even know how to kill the moonlight butterfly, it just one shotted me!

Any advice would be great, and finally my ultimate goal is to have a pvp dagger build. Anyone want to trade something for priscilla's dagger? I'm not sure whether I have anything valuable or not..

    Sorry I'm a horrible noob

What level are you, and what system are you on? I don't think I can get you the dagger, but maybe we can co-op.

Well, for starters, in order to open the gate you have to ring the second bell down in Blighttown. And be warned, you're going to hate the upper section of Blighttown seeing as how it's your first playthrough. Although there is a HUGE shortcut down to the lower section of Blighttown via the Master Key(If you didn't choose it as a starting gift you can only buy one AFTER you're done with Blighttown), I wouldn't recommend it, seeing as how it's your first playthrough.

As for the Moonlight Butterfly and the Hydra, well, the Moonlight Butterfly is a completely optional boss and the Hydra is your ticket to the Artorias of the Abyss DLC content. But if you really want to defeat the Moonlight Butterfly, you can toss a humanity to become human and summon Beatrice. Her summon sign is hidden in some bushes in the first floor of the tower leading up to the Moonlight Butterfly. However, the Moonlight Butterfly is actually incredibly easy. Just keep strafing with your shield up(by the way the Crest Shield is a great shield for this fight, you can get it upon your return to the Undead Asylum, I'll post a link to a video guide) and roll to the side whenever the Moonlight Butterfly pewpews at you. As for the big attacks, delay your roll. After a while, the Butterfly will land on the bridge to rest and you get some free damage on it. But don't stay too long, it'll blow you up. Now for the Hydra. Get close to it as fast as you can. If it still spits out water at you, keep rolling. If you have a good shield, you've pretty much won the fight as soon as it starts its melee attacks. But be warned, don't get too close. A bottomless pit awaits you. Attack its heads every time the Hydra uses its melee attacks. Another warning, it'll start being really annoying once you've got it down to around 3 heads, its attacks won't even land anywhere near you and it seems as though the Hydra is trying to lure you into the bottomless bit. So a bow will help. Oh, and by the way, you can also get the Rusted Iron Ring(which is also in the Undead Asylum) to help yourself move quickly in water and what not, as well as the lower swamp section of Blighttown.

And about that dagger build. I wouldn't say that Priscilla's Dagger is a bad weapon, it's just not the best. It may have 500 Bleed and 110 Occult, but the damage is mediocre in my opinion and the actual Bleed build up is incredibly disappointing. No critical bonus. It can't be buffed either. However I understand you're trying to be more unique, as I have seen your other topic. But I just wouldn't recommend Priscilla's Dagger. I personally just don't really like it.

Here's a video showing you how to return to the Asylum. You can thank JJJK29isGaming.

Either defeat the gaping dragon in the depths or use the short cut if you have the master key. To access the shortcut, go down to new londo ruins in the lift from fire link. To your right is another tower structure. Go up the stairs here and open the gate with the master key. Walk along the ledge until you come to a bridge. Cross that, turn right and go through what appears to be a dark tunnel. There are a couple of barbarians here that will make your life difficult, so care is required. Do remember to stock up on purple moss before you go there.

Best of luck, I'm always happy to co-op when I'm online, so just send me a message with your level if you're on Xbox.

Yeah I was looking at daggers and it seemed the best. Is there a better dagger then?

I for one prefer the Bandit's Knife. It has the second highest critical bonus amongst all the daggers, as well as being able to inflict more bleed build up than the Priscilla's Dagger. Although Priscilla's Dagger does 50%/500 bleed damage, which is more. It provides an Occult bonus too. However Priscilla's Dagger does not have a critical bonus. If it weren't for the Dark Silver Tracer coming in along with the DLC content with a whopping 160 critical bonus and toxic build up on its strong attack with NO bleed build up, then the Bandit's Knife would still reign with the highest critical bonus. But of course, the Bandit's Knife can be buffed, unlike Priscilla's Dagger and the Dark Silver Tracer.

In order to get to Blighttown, you can:

    a) (If you have the Master Key) Hop on down into New Londo, take a short right into another construct, and enter the Valley of the Drakes via the Master Key and you'll see the path leading to Blighttown just across from you. Beware the 3 Barbarian enemies though.

    b) Enter via the Depths route, which, by the way, is the route many take on their first playthrough. In order to get to the Depths, you have to enter via the Lower Undead Burg with the Basement Key you get in the Undead Parish(Remember the locked door on the bridge with the huge drake?). Don't forget the buy the Residence Key from the male Undead Merchant in order to save Griggs of Vinheim when you get to the Lower Undead Burg. Oh and by the way, the Capra Demon boss fight is going to be really annoying. However you've pretty much won the fight as soon as you've gotten rid of the two dogs that come with the Capra Demon. The Capra Demon will drop the key to the Depths. Leave the boss room and immediately turn to your left to find a staircase(Missed it on my first playthrough lol) and be cautious of the hollow thief waiting to ambush you around a corner. Don't forget to unlock the shortcut to Firelink Shrine on your left. It's going to be across from the Female Undead Merchant you'll find. If I were you I would buy 1 or 2 Purging Stones from her just in case. Don't forget to buy Purple Moss as well, especially the Blooming Kind, you're going to need it for the Toxic Blowdart enemies. Then, go back to the door leading to the Depths and let yourself in. You can check the wikis for further info on the Depths and a walkthrough, if you'd like. But be sure to be in human form to let Kirk invade you if you want the Thorns set later on in the game. Of course, he invades you in the area where your Purging Stones are quite important. There are Basilisks down there that can curse you if you aren't careful. Happened to me on my first playthrough and it sucked for me. A lot. You'll find yourself facing the next boss, THE GAPING ALLIGATOR. No I'm just kidding, it's the Gaping Dragon. You can summon Solaire and Lautrec for this fight, but I wouldn't recommend it as it just makes the fight harder, rather than easier. Be sure to take out the Channeler before you fight the Dragon, though. The Channeler is capable of buffing the Gaping Dragon. After you kill it, it will drop the Key to Blighttown and head back to the door you most likely saw before entering the Gaping Dragon boss room. But let me remind you once more, if you have the Master Key, these two bosses are completely optional. But I wouldn't recommend skipping Blighttown on your first playthrough.

Lol sorry if this is too long.

Ah I see, I didn't realise te basement was there! I'll be on my way then, may return to dark root gardens when I'm able to not be 1hk'd by anything. It's a relief though, I thought I was just being a crap player.
