Menu swapping a spear mid battle to win

What do you guys think of this strategy? I was doing this the other day and it was funny. Almost all my builds have a spear ready for backup. My Str builds use an elemental Pike, Int builds use the horn, for Faith I try to use the DSS and Dex uses the SKS. If my Str is too low sometimes I use rapiers since they work as a small spear. But this only works if my build is fast rolling. For mid rolling I have to turtle because the roll poke strategy doesn't work as well as fast rolling.

For example one fight I remember in the Burg I was dueling with my Str/Int build. I didn't cast a buff, and the guy was dodging all my rolling R1s. Then he began roll bsing with Hornet Ring. Luck was that he was doing low damage lol, and my build has 1800 HP. He then roll bs me again after my roll R1 (I was using a Large Club). I said hmmmm let's see if you can dodge this. I menu swapped mid fight my Moonlight Butterfly Horn and he was horrified. He couldn't roll bs me no more while I gently magically poke him to death. Do you guys think this is cheap or it's a good strategy?

Well that's the thing I feel cheap doing that. Since I don't roll bs nor parry, I feel like I'm opposing the PvP meta. But at the same time I feel smart and since roll bs can't be countered so easily I love punishing them for their reliance on those tactics. Either way I feel unskillful but hell I'm too lazy to change my fighting style.

You don't really need a spear to defeat roll bs fishers. You could try msgs 1h r1s unlocked, or curved swords unlocked with a dex build. But if spear is your counter to roll bs fishing, go for it.

Can't fight unlocked Fin, gives me headaches.

Spears can be roll bs'd too though. Don't get too predictable, you know how much people hate spears

I have no poblem with hat, on my quality or dex build my scythe will outrange even the sks and on my str build inpoise bs them.

I don't see an issue w/ it. Roll BS fishers are worse than a guy countering it by poking w/ a spear. If he doesn't change tactics it's on him, not you.

I only use a spear in the arena when the enemy is being cheap. If they insist on roll bsing me every move I make, or buffing and fishing for bs they can eat the end of my SKS. I don't care so much about winning in normal play, but I refuse to let tryhards walk all over me in the arena, hopefully a break a few streaks like that.

Every single one of my builds has a spear I can put on "In case of emergency" Sometimes on my mid rollers I remove 2-3 pieces of armor and put a spear on. And I turn it on.

Well then I think it's perfectly normal to have a spear as back up.

People will complain about anything, spears, dark magic, WotG, TwoP, GC, Katanas, GT, Wolf ring, Fap ring, Dusk Crown, Giants, Mommy mask, Daddy Mask, Rapiers, Elementals, any weapon that might be able to get an extra hit in after a poise stagger. Yes I picked things I cannot personally remember being complained about at one point or another (though I'm sure someone has once complained about any poise at all, and the slumbering ring is questionable)

My Point Wyrm is you should do whatever it is you do. If that involves a spear sometimes, so be it.

I don't get the rage about spears... the only problem for me is their phantom reach that they sometimes get.

using a spear as a backup is totally fine! it just makes you all the more deadly.

It would be annoying, yes, but all you did was adapt. Therefore, I should now adapt to the weapon you just brought out. I just consider that outsmarting someone if you change your tactics mid-fight to turn the battle around.

Various reasons. Some people are moralists that simply refuse to use them because of the phantom range advantage they sometimes get. Some people don't like them because they don't do enough damage to satisfy their needs. It's a matter of preference I assume.

No, I get the reasons to not use a spear. But if you are going to use one, why not use it from the start?

Why swap to ANY weapon? Why do we even have two slots for our right and left hands?

Because sometimes a curved sword is not the answer, because occasionally I don't want to swing this claymore around, because once in a while A spear wins a fight.

do whatever you want to do. you haven't setup rules before hand with these people, so do whatever entertains you.

If spears are your strategy against bs then that is just being prepared. Just like dark bead is a counter for being rushed if your a glass cannon, and gmb is for countering a glass cannon. There is nothing wrong with being prepared for everything
