Whips? Anyone use them?

Have a +5 lightning notched whip. Any good in pvp? and also, how is the guardians tail?

Damage wise they all suck, but they are usefull to keep hitting your opponent with Aux, like Bleed, or Poison and they're great offhanded to fight players, that like to parry.

i use a reg whip sometimes on my off hand for parry spammerss and it also has surprisingly good reach, kinda like estoc so thats a plus, tha dmage is actually pretty good, over 200 depending on your opponent's armor and it has a fast parry.

Interesting. Never considered it in the offhand.Will practice that cause my parry skills are garbage.

Which do you guys think is better, Guardian tail or Notched?

if you have 15 str go guardian tail with poison resin since you will never bleed anyone with a whip.

i like putting poison resin on the Guardian tail and whacking rant in the face with it.

if you go +15 the guardian tail is the weakest of the three whips when is comes to damage, but it has the best base damage of the 3 whips thus makes a good elemental weapon for a str build if you have the weight. the regular whip is the best damage wise for a +15 dex build, the notched whip has no advantage over the other whips despite having a description saying it does better against heavy armor.

I haven't played for a while, but has anyone done tests to see if the guardian tail takes more poise per hit? I remember using it and it seemed like i was stunlocking fairly high poise players after only 2 hits. It is very likely it is just because people aren't stacking as much poise anymore.

Still last time i was playing i was fooling around with a ridiculous build that used the guardian tail, and i was stunlocking a lot of people(inflicting poison and doing decent damage). Since you cant parry a whip you can spam, you just have to be careful about backstabs. Whips are pretty good at punishing bs attempts, or at least canceling out the dmg though.

The Guardian Tail also seems to have a larger range then the other whips.

Pawn and I did. All 3 whips take 20 poise per hit. Which really isn't bad at all if you're fighting a lighter toon. I've been using it as a secondary off-hand weapon with my tank, to stunlock and poison people with little to no poise who are trying to outrun me. Works like a charm.

Their parry window is surprisingly big too. It's actually the only thing I've ever landed a PvP parry with.

Oh ok, must have just been players with 31-40 poise then.

I use the notched whip fairly frequently and IMOP it just takes a different kind of fight strategy to be successful with it. In a fair fight no buffs no elementals, you'll be slightly handicapped but if you are a good whip user you can really throw your opponent off with how effective it can be. If you buff it with sunlight blade your opponent will be so shocked at how powerful it can be. It's most effective two handed as it surrounds you as you swing covering you from all sides. I highly recommend experimenting with it if you are looking for a break from the usual gameplay, also watching videos of other players pvp with it helps develop a fighting strategy.
