The use mythical creatures in DkSII Empty The use mythical creatures in DkSII

    Post by Oh_the_Humanity Mon Dec 31, 2012 5:55 pm

I love it when they use mythical creatures from different cultures and beliefs.
Like the Hydra. That is a mythical creature from Greece that was Hercules nemesis. Everytime Hercules cut off one of his heads it would just grow back 2 more, so Hercules got his nephew Iolaus to help him defeat the Hydra by waiting for Hercules to cut off one of the heads, Iolaus would scorch each headless neck with a torch to prevent heads from growing back.
Wouldn't it have been awesome in DkS if the only way to defeat the Hydra was to have a summon where one player would have a torch and wait to cauterize the wound after the host cut off a head. Otherwise the heads would keep growing back. I would absolutely love to see bosses with that type of kill strategy.
Maybe will fight the Hydra brother Cerberus the 3 headed dog with a snake tail that could turn one to stone. I would love to see more mythological creatures show up in DkSII. What do you guys think?

    Minimize the Greek effect, please.
    I welcome (most) mythological creatures.

If they have sirens I'm muting the game. Harpies and banshees(?)

Kitsunes, ice fairies (yes it counts), maybe some demons from hell, are my top picks. Add a bad*** vampire. Tiny should I ask what type of demons you put?

I would prefer the cute Touhou forms. Besides...IMAGINE HOW MANY HEADGEAR DROPS THERE WOULD BE. RUNNING AROUND NAKED WITH SUWAKO'S HYPNOTOAD HAT WOULD BE GLORIOUS.

It would be nice if beings such as Nue, Kasha, Jiang Shi, Hitodama(OHMYGOD THIS WOULD BE PERFECT), Yukinko, Satori, Hashi-hime, Noppera-bō, Nekomata, Nure-onna, and Yuki-onna(PRISCILLA THROWBACKS PLS) are somehow added in.

Or better yet, the Yatagarasu. Velka will get a new playmate!

But yeah, Yōkai, Yōsei, and Oni are a must.

If they add vampires, they better be like The Elder Scrolls vampires. If those guys did something right, it's vampires.

Also, I very much dislike the idea of having to summon another player to beat a boss.

I love most mythological concepts though, Norse mythology is pretty awesome, those Scandinavians know how to make up religions.

Some parts of Egyptian mythology is also great. We saw a lot of Ancient Greece inspired action in Dark Souls, so why not the others in Dark Souls II?

This isn't a game in a Greek or Japanese setting, though. It's a north/northwestern European one with a few elements from other regions. The bulk, to fit the setting, of enemies should come from those regions. Some of the main things that that includes are:
    monstrous animals
fairies, (not the inch-tall Romanticism ones. Perhaps some from the Unseelie Court?) though that's questionable
    goblins
    trolls
wingless dragons, such as Norse linnorms

A lot of these, I question, though, because in Dark thus far, aside from dragons, chaos demons and undead, there seems to be very little in the way of magic or supernatural elements. It's a low magic world where the strongest spell a senior student at the most prestigious magic academy in the world (Griggs of Vinheim) is a variant of soul arrow. I think a lot of the variety of fantasy creatures have not been included for a list of very good reasons.
A more in-depth forest is something I hope to see, though.

It definataly(?) adds a wider cultural understand to players, which I support. Besides what magical beings do you get that have not already been done already? Maybe something from the Romans, Chinese, or African myths would be nice. Now that I think of it what is there in the mythological area in African cultural?

Also Thank you Tiny and Kyokai! Now I can't stop thinking that Yukari is going to show up in the second game as a troll.

These are some cratures used in the game Legend of Dragoon:

    Goblins
    Orcs
    Urobolus
    Merman/mermaids
    Salamanders
    Fire bird
    Mandrake
lizardmen/ make them dragons though, like the ones the player can become but with real wings 8)
    Jiango, a rancor like enemy
    Roc
    Elves
    Windigo
    Minotaur
    Kracken
    Unicorn

    God of War:
    Cyclops
    Cerberus
    Griffin
    Gorgons
    Giant spiders
    Satyrs, do capras count?
    Nemean Lion
    centaurs

Maybe even some werewolves and vampires like Castlevania.

Basically what I'm try to say is that there's a lot of inspiration they can draw from, and that more enemy types would make the game more interesting. Some normal/giant animals would be nice too, such as wolves, lion, crocodiles in swamps w/e.

I'm also assuming that since we have two demons based on the zodiac already, that the other 10 are also out there and I would like to see them. Having Played both Onimusha and DmC, I have pretty big expectations for demonic "enemies". So when I see something like 3 Asylum demons as bosses, it makes me feel a bit disapointed

Yea, maybe ur right. It would be best if they would create enemies of their own, rather than lending them from other mythologies. After all, it's Dark souls, not the greek or any other mythology.

To me Flamelurker is nothing like Balrok, except for the fire. Flamelurker was quick for a big creature. Like rabid dog. Balrog, on the otherhand, was slow in his moves and much larger.

I do not like that it says THE ONLY WAY. It would just force you into multiplayer, which not every player has, unless of course you mean a NPC summon, which still kind of bothers me. That's not the point of the topic though.

    I do love seeing mythological creatures in games and i would actually like to see;

    Cyclops
    Chimeras
    Medusa
    Scylla
    Manticore
    Minotaur
    Phoenix
    Nemean Lion
    Leviathan
    Kraken

There are some many more that i could name, but you get the point. happy
