Reclaim the Forest. Defeat the gankers.

Post by Hydreigon11 on Tue Dec 25, 2012 8:37 pm

So i've been spending time here : http://soulswiki.forumsrpg.com/t16125-tryhard-anti-gank-build where people are discussing the ultimate try hard/anti gank solutions.

And the plan to reclaim the forest was made.

Use the builds listed in the forum above, or create your own and post them here to help people. Using things like the giants armour is allowed as we are going to use whatever we can to take these annoyances out of our forest, however if you do use the giants' armour don't use a family mask, just separate yourself from the gankers aesthetically. This will be cross platform.

Use whatever underhanded, scummy and downright rude techniques to destroy these pieces of trash.

If you wish to join leave a post, and have your build ready by the end of January, this event will take place on February 1st. I'm leaving a large amount of time so all of y'all can join so we can truly reclaim our forest and destroy the gankers.

If you meet anyone 1v1ing you may either slay them or black sep out. If you do kill them however apologise and say you are hunting gankers. If this could spread to other places like the dark souls subreddit or other forums that would be amazing.

Leave your platform(s) with your post so I can understand how far this project would reach. And this could be made into a monthly thing where we temporarily take back the forest.

TL;DR We gon kill some ganking fools!

    Let's reclaim our forest.

EDIT: This may go unsaid but join the forest bros for the invasions.

EDIT 2: Leave your gamer tags/whatever the PS3 alternative is (not trying to be ignorant, just have no idea what it is called)so we can spot each other and use the look skyward gesture to greet each other.

Anyway in the way of supplies, you may have to go it alone but if you run into a fellow forum goer, or if one of you wishes to be a supplier, then leave your gamertag/username here and I'll put it in this post so people know who to contact if they need supplies.

NOTE: All builds must now include pharis' hat or the sack. When invading wear this hat. You should be able to shift around poise etc. because of the low weight of this hat. This is so we can recognise each other, and gankers will learn to fear those with the hat of pharis.

Since it's the forest I'm going to hold no quarter with my soul levels. I'm right about 180 http://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/?c=312609863839484892

Swap Leo for Wolf when I use Tracer, but for the record, that buffed winged spear with leo ring trades with basically anything in the game, it's absurd.

This is my Pyro build that i recently had much success with. No access to the Gold Tracers so Shotel will have to do against turtles. I have a wide variety of weapons at my disposal so i can switch around when needed. Since this is part of an event, if i meet solo hosts, i'll black crystal out. I'm on the PS3.

Here is my updated build, fully optimized with 82 poise, 2100 odd health and a sunlight rapier with a hornet ring, oh and great heal just incase you need it.
    Here it is.
This should be ready from about January the 15th depending on time.

These builds are so sinister I love it! I am also glad a lot of people like the idea of an anti-gank day it shall be...deliciously wicked. As for a date a few people seem excited for a New Year's attack so I guess that can be a trial run. Here are two tracers builds (somewhat meant to complement each other).
    Gold Destroyer
    Dark Silver Destroyer
As pointed out by WyrmHero, the tracers can easily be used to repel gankers and as a team they can be even more deadly. "Operation Reclaim the Forest" ah, it sounds so lovely. For our enemies show them no mercy and hold back nothing. In terms of 1v1 folks try to play as fair as possible (with such destructive builds) or even "gift" them the souls by dying as a token of appreciation, and it's not like you lose anything. Also please use good judgment when invading. If there are two people, but one sits back for the entire fight (meaning no bows, casts, estus, etc.) then do not be too quick fight dirty although this is rarely the case I have seen it and done 1v1 with a friend in my world. The point here being to lower the collateral damage we inflict as we want to discourage ganking not reinforce the idea that it's the only way.
I will probably be using this build herehere due to it being simply too evil to resist. I play on Xbox GT:hey its andres and should be home for most of the holidays.

Edit: One final note is that you should also do the most ridiculous gestures/actions when defeating gankers to show them how ridiculous they truly are

Post by lorenzo110 on Wed Dec 26, 2012 7:27 am

Really people? Why cant you guys just play the game without having to resort to these constant failing ideas. Look from day one the forest has always been a place for anything goes fighting. Ganking happens on both ends. Period. End of story. If you do not believe this you are fooling yourself and being very ignorant. I have been both an invader and summoned player. I have invested thousands of hours in this game. As I did in DS and also have in DKS. Every single forum I have gone to always had this same notion and idea that they would be the ones to clean up the forest or kiln or any other place they had deemed horrible. Guess what folks its never happened and it never will buddy. Accept it and move on. Use the forest as other veteran players have, that being a test of your true skill. Instead of complaining about losing against 2 or 3 opponents challenge yourself to become a better all around player who can handle yourself in this situation. I did. And if you read previous posts from die hard veterans they have as well.

You see they have mastered a mind set that it takes to fight in the forest. They fight without a fear of losing. Which unfortunately many noobs just cant seem to accept. For them they always have to win and thus never improve because they refuse to challenge themselves against difficult situations such as fighting multiple opponents. I have had several past friends on my buds list just basically give up playing becuase all they could do was fight 1v1 battles and not fight 1v2 or 3s. They refused to challenge themselves and the skills they had becuase of their aversion to losing. Eventually they got tired of the game fast because of this and quit playing. You new players have to understand. You are playing a game advertised as being difficult...you will die..alot. Yet many of you get this notion that your unbeatable becuase you face mostly noob players at the lower levels that when you try to step up into the forest you come across higher level fighters who like to camp there and have a good anything goes fight. 2v2 or 2v3 or 1v2, ect. They have invested their time and gained their experiance that they play the game the way they choose to play it. Not the way you want them too. Remember you didnt buy this game for them, they bought it and can choose the way they want to play it. Now I understand you guys may feel this sense of honor. Good for you. At least you have something to fight for. But remember, when you refuse to challenge yourself as a player you will never become a fully rounded veteran. You will always be limited to only one aspect of game play in DKS. Thats 1v1.

Challenge yourself to be better then that. Not to prove to others but to prove to yourselves that you can compete and learn to improve and become a real all around fighter. If you want to stay at 120 sl becuase you love the advantages of builds then fine that is your choice. But its not everyones choice. Some prefer fighting high level japanese fighters to no holds bar battles that are true test of skill because they do not have the safety net of a build advantage or tactic. The difference between low level and high level fighting is so vast. Only those that have chosen to accept they challenge for themselves know this to be true. Its this mentality of pitch forks and revenge rage that at times is so childish and a bad reflection of the players who promote it. All DKS players know the areas of the game that are for 1v1 fighting and others that are just all out warfare. If not I would suggest to the new players to read the pvp area of this wiki so that they can tailor their on line experiance to their needs. But again I would state implicitly to you...challenge yourself. Becuase those of us who have experianced all aspects of this games pvp we dont have that mentality of wanting to clean up anything because we have survived it and can handle ourselves against it. We have conquered our fear of losing and accept the challenge thrown before us when we enter 1v2, 1v3, ect. It doesnt matter to us whether we win or lose its that we had excepted the challenge to prove to ourselves we can handle it. The only thing this gang mob mentality does is make things worse not better. From day one the forest has been a proving ground to those willing to accept its challenging pvp aspect. Nothing has changed since then about the forest. And nothing you new players and inexperianced players who have the aversion to challenge yourselves can change this. You should spend the time in changing yourself and your mindset. Challenge yourself. You may in the end suprise yourself. Just my opin.

@Lorenzon "TL;DR We gon kill some ganking fools!"
    1) Because something is impossible we shouldn't try it?
    2) This can't just be some fun event to kill gankers like the 2 previous ones the forum has held?
Pretty sure you missed the point.

^ Jesus that was long (@Lorenzon). Okay well first off this is more for fun which is the entire point of the game right? Another thing is that only so much skill can get you out of a chain backstab with the host's buddy spamming some magic on the side. I mean let's face it no matter how incredible your skills are, 2 people with minimal skills (and maybe even a slight lag on their side) can totally destroy you without anything you can do, and you can forget about most fun builds and role playing toons.

On the other hand I completely agree with you about honing your skills out to be able to handle multiple enemies and I'm sure most experienced players do have some sort of counter. For example, I tend to either go into a critical animation (hopefully parry but most often a back stab) for that moment of invincibility or go with a fire tempest or gravelord greatsword dance depening on my build. This is just my preference and I'm sure you have your own. This event is not to increase our skill and eradicate the ganking menaces forever, it is only to give them [gankers] a taste of their own cheap, disgusting medicine. Plus it is practically an excuse to use the tryhard build you've always wanted.

No dude im pretty sure I didnt miss the point. I think you may have.
1-its not impossible to face multiple opponents. Its your fear that makes it impossible for you. See jblackmels vids on forest camping to learn the basics.
2- Did the past events ever accomplish what they were set out to do? Nope. Not in this forum or the others I have gone too. The forest is and continues to remain an area for all out war where anything goes. The only thing that needs to change is your attitude toward it as well as your aversion to losing or facing as you say impossible odds. Its only impossible becuase you make it that. Good luck.
    Just my opin.

1- I don't understand this point. Where did anyone say they feared facing multiple foes? When did anyone say its impossible? The entire point of a ganker hunting event is that fact it is possible to kill a group. You're making an assumption based on something no one said.

2- You repeating this point just shows you failed to read my post where I pointed out a) we know its impossible and b) we don't care. And once again you assume I'm afraid of fighting against groups or that I think it impossible to win against groups. Where are you getting that idea from?

Well believe me your event is not going to show gankers anything they have not already seen. Go ahead and have your fun, but fighting fire with fire never changes a thing. You like to explain your aversion to ganking but I dont hear much from you guys about the reverse of it? Thats a very interesting point none of you seeem to like to talk about or are in denial about. Invader gankers. The other points about chain BS and the game mechanics are just that. Game mechanics. Things that just happen and that sometimes you can avoid and sometimes you just cant. Just move on to the next fight and leave it and learn from it. I get front BS and side BS from japanese players all the time but I accept it for what it is and move on. It happens. Their connection is bad or mine.Cant fault them for that advantage but I can let them know if I want too. But it is what it is.

Ok you started off good but then you once again brung up stuff that's irrelevant so I'll leave you to your trolling now.
One last thing though we do talk about it, but since the forum is mostly FHers who don't gank it doesn't come up often. We focus on what we like to fight which is ganker hosts. And I'm out.

The key word in your phrase my friend is "impossible". Maybe to you it is.
    2) Gankers....so you killing invader gankers as well? becuase that is just as prevelant as host gankers are.

Do you really believe this? I mean really? LOL.
A few months back there was a very revered and reputable player in the forum that stated he never flasked while fighting. Period. Then all of a sudden there was a vid of him flasking in a 1v1. Human nature is a funny thing my friend. It makes liers of us all.
Im pretty sure deep down inside you dont believe that statement becuase you know better. Just my opin.

This event is purely a meet up type event in which the forum goes out in order to kill ganking hosts in the forest.
Also, lorenzo seems to have completely mis-understood the idea of the topic so I suggest that he reads it again.
On a separate note, would having power within on my build be a good idea or would it be too much overkill?

    @ Lorenzo

Do you honestly think I whine and complain about 2v1s? The most complaining I do is over how hard it is to gravelord properly so that I can get myself into 2-3v1 situations more often. I go out of my way to invade the most co-oped areas, I forest, I duel in the Burg or Kiln, I've been at Arena and township.

We don't actually think we can remove the 2v1 giantmoms from the forest, and we certainly don't expect anything less than Zaphanders and Dark beads. It's simply a good excuse to dust off the Forest rust, start a new game and have a good time making and putting to use another pvp build

I'm in. I can bring my 380. Just gotta get some DLC and get them upgraded. It will be more of a PITA, since I'm on NG+++ (or higher).

    Lorenzo:
    1) we are not afraid of 2 or 3v1. In fact, us catbros we look forward to those fights, hence the builds we have.

    2) None of use expect to have any result of teaching gankers a lesson. This is merely an event where we get together and invade at the same time. It is fun to share our pvp experiences, and there is a chance we will run into each other.

    3) You talk about invaders ganking. Yes, they do gang up on hosts. But, the hosts have the advantage here since they can constantly summon, and can wait at your spawn point to kill you before you can move. The invaders who are ganking may be responding to what the majority of hosts are doing. But, this is a good thing. It is nice to fight without any rules.

    4) You talk about people buy this game and should play it their own way. That applies to us as well. This is how we are choosing to pay.

    My $0.02

I feel like this may be a good time to test out some of my more insane builds I've had on the shelf since I couldn't play.

I also may invade using the Calamity Ring if I get it before this thing starts.

Forest mass invasion? Sure, count me in.

I'm probably going to gravelord some of the time to give you extra help and duels for a change. Feel free to gank me though, i won't hold it against you. In fact, it would be hilarious to get ganked by some of the best players of this forum big grin

I will start invading when i get bored of hosting. I'll use my favourite hunter build (SL99 10str 45dex) and record my invasions just in case something funny happens or i manage to get some flashy/cool gank kills.
