Re: Questions about dark magic
The silver pendant takes too long to cast. Usually if you cast it, your opponent still hits you with the dark magic as a result.
What makes it overpowered is it's damage. Really the only dark magic that is overpowered is dark bead. Dark Bead has 6 casts and does about 2.5 times more damage than crystal soul spear, while casting faster.

Re: Questions about dark magic
I'm guessing it's dark bead you've heard about? It's considered OP because with the right gear, and close enough distance, it can 1-shot most builds. Even without the magic boosting gear it can still potentially 2 shot a lot of builds and considering that it has pretty good poise damage, that second hit is pretty likely to land.
The pendant can be useful, but it has a Force like animation and leaves you open to backstabs. I'd really only recomend it if you've backed yourself against a wall/corner or are in a position were you can't be backstabed such as a thin bridge/hall.
Also, where have you been? Dark Magic has been all over the place for a while now lol

Re: Questions about dark magic
Ahhh.
The other spell to watch out for is Pursuers, it's pretty much a stronger homing soulmass but much slower and with better tracking. It disappears about 10 seconds once they begin chasing you though. It's weaker than an up close dark bead, but it can still 1 shot you if you don't have the right gear and enough HP. It also does a lot of poise and stability damage, so trying to tank it is a bad idea. Some people will use both at the same time, the combo can be dodged but it will take a lot of skill or a lot of luck.

Re: Questions about dark magic
I couldn't really tell you, it depends on your gear/stats and theirs. But it can definitely 1 shot someone with 50 vit and a ring of fap if they don't have good enough armor.

Re: Questions about dark magic
Without the Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring and Crown of Dusk it will probably take 2-3 shots to kill you depending on armor. The best way to dodge pursuers is actually to roll forward towards the caster when they first start homing in on you. DarkBead is generally not as dangerous at a distance, but being too aggressive can get you killed fast. If you're close enough to the caster(as in already touching them) though the beads will actually go over you. It's best to roll BS people that spam Dark bead if you're confident enough in your dodge abilities.
Pretty much, you're just gonna have to experience them so you can get some practice in.

No problem. If you need practice, I hear the Arena in the DlC is filled with Dark magic users.
