Can they be downloaded from a certain place? I hope they can alter the feel of the game. Also, are there any single player mods? Such as different stories to play?

The only mods avaiable right now are fixes (DSFix, Mouse Fix) texture replacements and UI mods (which also work by replacing textures). They can be obtained from Dark Souls Nexus.
You need DSFix in order to use texture replacement mods, and they only work on your end (I mean, if you invade with a retextured armor for example, it will only look retextured in your own game unless the other one also has the mod)
