Griefers are the good guys Empty Griefers are the good guys

Post by LunarFog Sun Dec 16, 2012 11:32 pm

Griefers - people who go out of their way to make the game as difficult or impossible as they can. They do whatever it takes to kill you and cause as much misery as they can, whether that means they get end-game equipment on level 1, take advantage of game mechanics and lag, or using the cheapest tactics and strategies they can think of.

Dark Souls II - a game that has been receiving a lot of criticism for whoever is in charge wanting to "make it more user-friendly", even though it's not out yet. "User-friendly" is a phrase which is especially taboo to the Souls community because for the most part they pride themselves in being able to brag about how difficult Dark Souls is. The idea of making Dark Souls II easier in any way is of course not very well received.

    [center]MY PROPOSITION

If Dark Souls II does become easier, then you have to be prepared to do what it takes to make sure it maintains it's dignity. If Dark Souls II becomes easier, then you have to do whatever you can to inflict as much misery as you can to other players. If enough people cause enough grief and rage, then that could be exactly what the game needs to make up for it's easier monsters and bosses. This way Dark Soul's infamous reputation could be kept intact. Helping others would only be doing harm that could potentially kill Dark Souls.

i see your point, just no glitching to do it, if you're going to have end game gear at a low level to invade do it legit, a lvl 4 darkwraith is quite possible, similar things will be possible in the next game.

ganking is for hosts griefing is for invaders, or at least thats my view, the difference is that ganks are usually to farm souls or to make some one feel tough (inferiority complex much?), griefing is out right sadism (not the i kill a lvl 2 witha lightning claymore, but more, i close every short cut and scare off your crystal lizards and kill every phantom you summon till you disconnect.)

Ganking is a form of Griefing, Griefing is a very broad term that is not as distinct as ganking.

Also something to note, if the Griefing becomes so severe that it inhibits how the developers want the game to be played, they will take action. Invading could be extremely nerfed to the point where invading would start a player off at such a disadvantage. A number of issues could arise from this.

Yeah sure, go out of your way to make new players lives miserable. Then when they all go return their copies to Gamestop, do you know what you're going to get? Nothing. They're not going to make the next game harder, they're not gonna make a next game at all.

So if you enjoy picking on new players for $hits and giggles, then kudo's to you. But it's people like you who give the Dark Soul's community a bad name.

This, +1. You could make the game harder, you could also damage it so badly the series will die due to a lack of player base. Admittedly the BB glitch in 1 didn't do that, but at some point griefing will stop the player base from growing.

i do disagree with griefing but I like the occasional challenge of testing my pvp skills, some guy in full smoughs with dark hand threw toxic and poison throwing knives at me at the gargoyle place when I was lvl 15, this was fun because i have head and 10 Estus+1 so I could easily heal myself out of it. It went on for about 25 minutes, he wouldn't give up so I summoned a phantom who had a fire/chaos bandit's knife +5/10 o.o one shot backstab, got 414 souls for that kill...

Am I really such a bad person if I'd rather see Dark Souls end on a good note than continue to sell out and do whatever they can to make money until the game becomes a crappy shell of it's former self. Think about the lore in Dark Souls itself. The fire is going to die out eventually, there's no point in sacrificing everything to keep it going for a little while longer.

That's cause it's one of his lines lol, I got it from TV Tropes (don't know if you know the site)

LunarFog: So you would consider not griefing "sacrificing everything"? Surely you must have other ways to entertain yourself, like I don't know... PVPing against people who actually know what they're doing.
