Difficulty slider for casual players
There's no reason why casual players should be denied access to content simply because they don't have the skills, time, or patience to become better players. After all, they all pay the same $$$ we do right? That's what matters the most in the end. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9paNJJqMn3c

Ill simply say no, and that there will be a lot of outcry to your suggestion, most likely.

I think the Souls team has made quite an effort to completely avoid that very thing; I think a difficulty just can't work if the series is to keep its soul.

Don't see me going to a Fable forum asking for actual combat, so out of respect I don't want Fable players coming in here telling me how my game should play....

Having the ability to change your difficulty ruins the flow of the games. We are never too powerful because anything can kill us at any sl. The challenge is to make us always be on gruard, which I see as a pro than a con.

the Souls games already have a built in difficulty modifier by way of summoning phantoms for help. it's the best sort of easy mode any game could ever have.

I mean, the reason dark souls is good is because it is hard. If it were easy casuals would play through in four hours and wonder, "well, what was that about."
Having uncompromising difficulty and dieing over and over again is what makes the experience what it is. I think that I (A hardcore player) versus a casual player probably wouldn't find much discrepancy on who died more the first playthrough. I may have a hundred less deaths, but that isn't much in the scheme of a first playthrough of dark souls.
The reason dark souls is inaccessible isn't because it is hard, it is because it appeals to those who want mastery over the game, and that is where it's experience lay. Players that want to breeze through and dislike dieing to the point of wanting to stop playing will never like the series. If you don't force players to die over and over again, you have no dark souls.

Difficulty slider? I can't believe the Souls series has been reduced to such nonsense. It's not that every game with difficulty options are bad, but Souls series is not the place to implement it.

Re: Difficulty slider for casual players
Just wait then for all those pro game reviewers who would put the game to the easiest difficulty in order to beat the game as quickly as possible in order to write their review/walkthroughs before the competition.
Their view of the game would be completely warped and they would be giving the public a false interpretation of the game. For example: They could say something like this: Game Boss #3 was so easy, his A.I. is weak and my weapon took him down in 4 shots, aren't I amazing?
Then some poor fool buys the game and tries to beat it in the appropriate fashion and finds he is getting pummeled repeatedly by Boss #3 without even understanding why. He asks pro game reviewer what his strategy was to take him down so easy and pro game reviewer can't comprehend why these alleged noobs are struggling so much with such an easy boss. But the game reviewer couldn't care less, he's moved passed Dark Souls 2 and is onto the next week's big game release.

Re: Difficulty slider for casual players
Im no Souls elitist.
But if players don't have the skills or intuitive qualities to pick up a games mechanics then of course they should be denied entry into the game.
It would be a more positive experience for them to suck up their complaints and just push through it like the first generations of DeS players.
A slider bar would defeat/ breakdown the skill level, destory the sense of achievement, etc and create a lazier, more demanding, and downright lesser form of souls player. (Again im trying not to be elitist but if the class of player had to be high for the first two souls games then it should really be the same for this one)

Re: Difficulty slider for casual players
The difficulty and ability to die is what makes dark souls unique, otherwise it is just a third person RPG with some cool multi-player elements.
Having an extra hard difficulty may be good but it would still be controversial.

Re: Difficulty slider for casual players
As much as I would for the games to become more popular (How popular are they?) creating this slider would have no benifits than getting more cash. Oblivion used this and either made it too easy or too hard in the bad way. From set their standards with difficulty with Demon Souls and stuck with it. I like how want they to make the games appeal to a wider group but they can't kiss up to everyone. People will b**** about this, but once they see us they will see what is the difference between casual and experiance gamers. Not that I'm saying were all gods of the games, we all have our strenghts and weaknesses.

There'd be no point in NG+, and co-op would take a hit. If you can just slide the difficulty down when stuck on an area why summon anyone?

Re: Difficulty slider for casual players
No thanks.
I'm for more people playing the Souls game but not if it compromises why the game is successful (in many aspects).
If FromSoft puts a Casual option, I want that option to exclude PvP/MP. Many I see on other forums simply don't understand how a "easy mode" would affect PvP/MP in a Souls game. I don't want the devs to give someone an easier/faster route to getting the "best" weapons for PvP. Sure there will probably be ways to do this but hackers/glitchers don't need any help griefing. It's akin to giving people who play the CoD single player campaign on easy all of the upper-tier/high-powered weaponry/perks you earn through playing MP.
If FromSoft puts an easy-mode option in, I kinda hope it doesn't affect the difficulty at all. After the pendant I wouldn't be surprised if they gave us another placebo.
@Slarg232 - Haha... I like that. Fable forums, lol.

That's the only benefit that matters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9paNJJqMn3c
They should add some other changes too. To make the game more accessible.
- We all play the same character
- Simple, straightforward story
- Invasions replaced with Capture the Flag and Team Deathmatch
- Journal and maps so no one gets lost
- Quicktime events
- Customizable vehicles
- Love interest

lol you're assuming that the things we mention in our wishlist are actually going to be seen and taken seriously by execs at namco or fromsoft. I swear to God I am predicting we're going to get raped with casualization. So instead of resisting it, I'm going to support as much casualization as possible. The whole nine yards.

Re: Difficulty slider for casual players
So you're expecting then to go the whole nine yards with casualization? I think doing it all is a dumb move, but I don't think they're dumb enough to go as far as putting a difficulty slider.

Woah wrong I'm going to break this down:
- Spoiler:
- 1: Only paying attention to the profits is the move of dumb*** that ruins the respect of game makers for their fans. We not going to buy crap like that.
2: Same character? Ruins the customization of the series and can make it bland. It's a key part of being unqiue(?) and frankly I find that having a single sex character is well a bit sexist and the story becomes bland. There is a reason why the trailer did not show the guy's face.
3:Story? Okay WTF! Lets remove anything remotley close to mystery and reduce it to a 4th grader level(U.S.A). Which IS Not what Dark Souls (someone add Demon Souls) is! What it is, is a loosely made story that other than where we go is entirely debateable as to what happened before our time (the Archives). Little is set in stone and it makes us think about it. I like the fact that there little explained to us and we find the rest. I call it: thinking beneath the lines.
4: Replace invasions? I'm not even going into that, since your example is COD, HALO, and well something that to my knowledge only works in shooters.
5:Maps? Not bad really, but make so that we: A. build the map from memory while we are resting after travelling to a new area in 5%, 10% ratios. B. Find pieces of the maps from bodies or buy the pieces.
6: I hate them but if used right it is fine. Like doing something to a boss that can take a good piece of Hp away if done right. Not for random things or finishers.
7:Vehicles? Please refer to the thread on that.
8:Love? That just plains ruins the flow of the games. We are meant to be alone here, not get attatched to some hot girl who, considering the difficulty will likely die and will have to kill later. Never fun and it leaves a bad feeling.
From your sig I'm not sure if you are trying way to hard at trolling or trying to strike fear wear it is not needed.
