Maybe he was hinting towards your attitude against someone's ability to direct a good game based on one's style...just a guess.

At first I was put off by them saying that there was a main character, but then I realized, as early into development as the article said the game was, this was probably the only real armor set they'd settled on and are simply using it as the "face" of the game in the same way they used "Fluted Armor guy" for Demon's Souls or Oscar for Dark Souls. As much as they said they want to keep old fans right from the beginning of the game, I don't think they'd scrap the freedom of character creation. So I'm gonna convince myself that "Furry-shoulders Guy" is just a placeholder they made to have a character they could use for early development, and more armor and looks will come later.

There should a agressive stance that you activate and then kill NPCs, at my first playthrough i had to kill the first merchant because i hit him with a roll.

It's fun to see how we care about different things, i don't really care about this "Hero problem", i think it would be a lot of fun if we could play a important character of Dark Souls I, like Gwin's firstborn(despite the fact that he is solaire and died in most playthroughs).

The armour of the main character (whatever you want to call him) is the coolest ive seen from Souls to date!

I would be totally devastated if they removed character customization. Making you own personal character/build is one of my favorite things about the souls series. The article is not overly informative...the vehicle mention is interesting, but I am not really excited about it. I am excited about the scenery in the screen shots, it doesn't look overly dark, it looks quite nice.

When they said it was a direct sequel to Dark Souls, I see it as a game that's in the same universe as Dark Souls meaning it could still be a prequel. They referred to Dark Souls as a Spiritual Sequel to Demon's. So maybe it's just a clarification that its not something different since they did that once before.

And as far as "the new hero" thing goes they also said that the beginning of the game would be straight and to the point on how the game works, I see it as being something like Dragon's Dogma where you played as the Arisen before you for the tutorial and created your character afterwards.

From the images and the parts of the interview I've seen, I feel I can rest easy with this guy, he's cool and seems to understand what souls is about (dat *** up parasiting creature :O ) but he's already looking to implement some interesting changes, I think we can look forward to more detailed information in the future happy

The part where he talks about limiting the player early on sounds like monster hunter to me, early on they stick to the basics, they they throw a dragon at you and say "how do you like me now?!", I think that approach could work to make dark souls II more accessible, but obviously the balance of that will be hard to perfect.

I think a little bit more sign posting could actually help out the player, only a tiny bit though, as by the end of the game, finding the final lords souls boiled down to going to the places you hadn't gone to yet rather than figuring out where you had to go.

Actually for this reason having bosses in places you've been to before like stray demon/gwyndolin I think should be implemented as main story bosses, so there's more we have to figure out, but at the same time offer some clues for us etc

The new pictures of the "hero" convinces me that dual wielding is definitely gonna be in a bigger role in Dark Souls II

To be fair dual wielding is an area of great potential, along with the open world interaction and the enemy variety

Agreed. If they make dual wielding work it adds a whole bunch of hours into PvP alone and it's safe to say that there's probably going to be more weapons in the game this time.

I think sword and shield is always going to be more than viable, but dual wielding in Dark Souls at the moment is not too optimal...sure it works with some weapons but rarely better than shield+weapon combo.

I'd really like to keep all of the weapons from Dark Souls I in this game from growing so attached to some of them, but if they don't and just add a lot more that I like I guess I can deal with it.

Since it's a sequel I think the "favourites" at least will be there...maybe with different names but same movesets.

If they implement dual wielding, I would like to see it have a realistic benefit/risk associated with it. It shouldn't be as easy as sword/shield, it should take skill to master and thus be the mark of a skilled player.

Just as going without a shield is viable but much more difficult in the current DKS. I hope they don't make it such that dual wielding is as easy as sword/shield just because it looks cool. There is a certain amount of realism in DKS combat, and I hope that stays. IRL dual wielding would only be for somebody with crazy skills.

It does but it has to work well. My ideas with it is unique moves by pressing two shoulder buttons together. Pressing R1 and R2 together not blocks but if you time it right, the second you press them together when you're being attacked, you push your opponent away breaking their attack, kind like how it works in God of War. Jumping attack with R2 makes you use both weapons like the black duel katana skeletons do in Demon's Souls and pressing forward while pressing L1 or L2 should do special moves like swinging weapons around them if they're being ganked.

They're hijacking the popularity of the Dark Souls name, after having completely extracted its original soul. Then they're taking the hollow husk and injecting fecal matter into it. I, for one, will be closely watching non-commercial reviews of the game once it's released. It is definitely not on my pre-order list.

If you're talking IRL combat, then they shouldn't include duel-wielding at all. Nearly every culture and martial arts style flat-out said 'never duel-wield'. It gave no particular advantage to use to similar weapons, could be confusing, and you'd be much more effective using a weapon two-handed, a weapon and shield or even just one-handing a weapon. Duel-wielding exists ONLY because of the 'Rule of Cool'.

On that same website you linked there is a tab under "Dual Wielding" providing a few examples of RL dual wielders. I can see where you are coming from, though.
