It should be harder to get weapons & equip Empty It should be harder to get weapons & equip

Something always bothered me of the game was that it was to easy to get whatever you want... I mean, to get an armor set you just need to find the corpse who has it.

In other hand, the weapons arent that hard to find either...

It took me like 30 min to get full equiped!

I'd really like that there where new armos and weapons as enemy drops and if you want them you need to kill them once and again after you get the complete set! Also with weapons!

I started with a Bandits Knife and when I decided to use a Balder SS, it just took me like 2min to get like 5...

what do you think? For me it would be more interesting to make the sets, rare monster drops!

I like the way things are in Dark Souls but I'd agree that it can be easy to quickly upgrade your stuff. I kinda wish they would just stay with the way it is only.... Say you have a Balder SS and you upgrade it to +15. What if there was an upgrade past that... but you have to spend a ridiculous amount of souls to get it. As in when you kill an enemy the weapon absorbs the souls and once it gets to like 40-50K it "pokevolves" into it's final form Knight King Rendels Side Sword!! lol

I wish there were special effects from this too. For example, the greatlord greatsword would be upgraded to +5, and then have to absorb XX number of souls to become the true GLGS and.. if you kill Gywn (edit: it would absorb Gywn's Soul) with the true GLGS it gets the perma flame on it.

I think if they added this it'd really make you choosy on what weapons you want to upgrade and there would be secret combos that would take a while to figure out =)

Great ideas man! With the weapons 'evolving' by absorbing souls (I still wanna get souls for killing enemies though!, the weapon should get 'leveled' by actual combat), you would even have more things to strive for in the NG+ cycles. Maxing out and stuff. I also liked DkS approach a lot but still there is a lot of room for improvement.

    Just my 2 cents...

    guys this is gold.
Fable 2 (maybe 3?) tried doing this and FAILED miserably, but I see it really working in the souls series.
It's not like you can just use souls earned from a maxed out weapon to max out another, you'll actually have to use it for it to reach it's full potential. Much more intuitive as well, as your character will realistically need to get used to a new weapon style anyways.
I feel like armor should work in a similar way, where getting hit, and then repairing your armor should harden it. that'd be cool too big grin

Dark Cloud actually implemented that VERY well. Aside from Health and your thirst meter, your characters themselves didn't actually get stronger through the series; weapons absorbed magical energy (souls in this?) over time as experience points. Each weapon had attachment slots; (such as gems or tiny objects) upon leveling up, the weapon permanently absorbed all it's attachments and can be equipped with new attachments and eventually can transform into new, stronger weapons entirely. While I really enjoyed it and just like the idea, I think it doesn't fit with the Souls settings.

Wow...that would be amazing. I could actually find myself enjoying some of these weapons that seem great on the surface but fall short when you put them to the test. This could make cosplaying some of the characters far better as well. (Imagine playing as the Hound!)

I only wish I could be gathering souls into my weapons right now. sad

BTW, I'm Brandon and I'm new to this forum. Nice to meet yous.

That's a cool idea but I agree it doesn't fit. The lore of the Souls series is based on most items being fairly mundane. Most are based on real life weapons and way less exaggerated than most games. The strength of this system is that weapons are usually only special because they fit you. I know there's some exceptions but that's another strength. There are some unique weapons that are crazy looking or special which leads to my last point: if there were a weapon that upgraded via use I would say leave it at one weapon. If they all did that then none of them would be special.

Ok.....actual final thought. While I would say most equipment is easy to get there are some things that are a huge pain or require a major time investment. For example you need to at least start rolling through a third playthrough to get all the Artorias gear on one character. Most things are fairly accessible though but this serves to provide the player with choices. The difficulty isn't in FINDING a weapon, it's in using appropriately. For example, on my main character I decided to upgrade the Four Pronged Plow the second I got it since it obviously fits my persona. I don't like spears though. So even though I had it +15 right away I still was getting beat up with it for awhile.

@Skare I agree at limiting which weapons upgraded with the soul absorption method... Also, I think that while your sword is in it's soul absorption upgrade status it's stats are much weaker than most weapons. That way it makes it more of a challenge to upgrade them and when you finally obtain these weapons there is more of a 'holy crap I finally got it" feeling. They could also just make them give you more of a move-set thing to stay away from the fantastical weapons that don't fit into the DS universe.

I think if they did it this way it would fit more in the Souls game play style etc. Your weapon is taking all your souls you can't level... it's weaker so you can't kill things as fast, and oh by the way if you unequip it, it loses the souls it has in it. Something they would have to add though is if you died while upgrading these weapons it would lose a certain amount etc.

**Edit Nice to meet you Brandon and welcome to the Forums =)

Hmmm well I always hated the armour sets system that a lot of newer RPG's use especially in games like Kingdoms of Amalur....I never got the sets I wanted and if I did it was always too late in the game to use....

I suppose that if the game could balance out rarity with when you are able to get the sets and armours and whatever else it could be okay.
