Analysis Series: Dark Souls 2 Trailer Empty Analysis Series: Dark Souls 2 Trailer

Post by Deathsitexxi Mon Dec 10, 2012 4:02 pm

I know there are going to be a million of these… and we will eventually get jaded and sick of reading them all just like we do with other speculation we read… but! These are things I noticed with the trailer. In the same vein as my Analysis Series I’ve spent hours going over information and tried to draw out conclusions. I think this is just a basic concept trailer and not really here to do anything but hype us up… but if we pretend this is the final product we can try and pull some meaning from it. Also, I was going to post this into https://soulswiki.forumotion.com/t15431-trailer-breakdown-speculations but it got a little too long… If you guys think this is dupping what we’ve already got I’ll be more than happy to delete this thread put it in the previous one I just mentioned. Thanks and I hope I noticed something you guys think is interesting =)

The first thing we see is a city that seems to have similar architecture as Anor Londo with a bird flying towards it. The sun is setting in the background.

--This could be Anor Londo before it went dark and before the gods left.

--This could be the area to which the other gods fled. They would us similar architecture right?

    --Alternate timeline Anor Londo/Lordran

--The aftermath of linking the flame and the Age of Fire finally ending after the Chosen Undead Legend

Then we see a left arm with what looks like blood dripping from it. However, when the “blood” hits the ground it seems to boil and almost seems acidic.

--The showing of the left arm could be a hint for us. Artorias’ left arm was broken and he was covered with the corrosive Dark of the Abyss (I’m not saying this is Artorias in the trailer..) This leads me to believe the person we see here has a ton of humanity inside of them. To me meaning, they are the same type of human as the Chosen Undead from DS1, and this character is carrying so much humanity that his blood is turning into the corrosive Dark of the Abyss/Primordial Soup Click the link for details on the Primordial Soup Theory…. https://soulswiki.forumotion.com/t15104-analysis-series-dark-souls-intro-truths-reveled

We then see the character draw his sword and walk around a forest type area.

--Looking at the armor.. the helm seems to have the same striped rivets pattern that an Elite Knight Helm and Knight Helm have. Only it has a protruding piece in the center. Also this helm seems to be a one piece slide on type as opposed to a helm with multiple pieces and moving parts on it. The inclusion of his cloak being made of animal fur is interesting as well because we didn’t see anything like similar to that in DS1. In addition, after drawing his sword he turns around and walks backwards, as if he feels he is being stalked or something is following him.

Next we get a shot of the characters feet with broken porcelain (assuming its porcelain) masks on the ground as well as bodies lying about. He approaches what looks like a village gate or castle gate that in color and style reminds me of the Demon Ruins/Lost Izalith.

It changes to the character walking in what looks like a cave with similar looking statues that are in the Oolicle Sanctuary and looks similar to the Chasm of the Abyss. It then goes to the character pulling a sword from one of the bodies to duel wield, and then back to the cave where we see a large dragon skeleton surrounded by darkness but with beams of light shining on it from above.

--Is this the Chasm of the Abyss/Valley of Drakes?

--The statues seeming similar to the ones in Oolicle Sanctuary and being underground in what is also similar to the Chasm of the Abyss can’t be coincidences can it? It’s also interesting to note that before we see those places the character was in a forest…

Cut to a dark robed woman staring at the Anor Londo like castle with what looks like birds circling in front of her. They seem to be circling the same way vultures do when they are surrounding a carcass.

Then back to the forest with the character seemingly in distress while he is bathed in what looks like moonlight and either fireflys or embers floating about. Back to the dark robed woman handing the character a feather and she gives him a look like she’s telling him to go with haste. Then back to the forest with the character leaving a rooted entrance, which then snaps to a shot of him walking out of the skeleton dragon’s mouth.

--Forest, moonlight? Remind you of anywhere?

--A rooted entrance? Reminds me of when I first stepped out to fight the Sanctuary Guardian….

--The Dark Robed Woman handing what looks like a hawk feather?? We’ll see her again. .

Then we get a shot of our hero walking across a bridge that looks a lot like the bridge to the Painted world with the shadow of a flying dragon hitting the fog. To which it shifts to a dragon’s nest with snow on the ground.

    -Painted world bridge? Snow?

    -A Dragon and its nest?

It then shifts to a stormy area where we get our first look at the masked figures. The mask has 2 eyes and a single tear coming from the left eye. Then it switches back to an underground area.

--The masks remind us of the Painted Guardians and Ciran’s Mask. However, there is no pony tail coming from the backs of them.

--This underground area looks a lot like an area of the depths that we were unable to get to because it was flooded.

Then we go to the rolling over of the masked body. It’s no longer raining and the eyes on this mask almost seem more open..

Then to the battle I’ll cover only the masked figure battle here and the dragon next… the character has a spear and is surrounded by 4 of the masked fighters. One of the masked figures has a clearly visible very familiar looking curved sword. . and attempts to strike the hero. In addition, the tear drop has moved to the right eye on this particular enemy. It also seems that the eye with the tear drop is bigger than the other eye. Then they attack and get killed =)

--We know Ciran mask has a single eye in the center of it (I think there are other eye holes as well though)… and these masks have 2, however; on these it seems like something is the matter with one of the eyes. A group of assassin’s that have you remove one of your eyes to prove your worth? You put a tear drop on your mask to show which one you lost that way you know which side to cover on your other assassin buddies?

--The sword they are using looks very familiar anybody know where we’ve seen it before? I’m seriously asking I’m drawing a blank here.

Now to the dragon portion… As you’re standing there with the dark robed woman a dragon comes by and very close. It seems she doesn’t even flinch as if she knew it was coming. It arches in front of the Anor Londo style city and then lands in front of its nest. Before roasting the hero we can see it has a single eye in its forehead and is big and grey like a stone.

--The eye in its forehead reminds me of the Cyclops eye in Ciran’s armor.

--It’s grey like the stones and grey crags from the DS1 intro

--The dark robed woman seems to know it’s there and isn’t bothered by it. Like she’s giving you a test

--A nest normally holds… eggs.. which normally means babys….

Then we see our hero covered in arrows drop to his knees and face the setting sun.

--From linking the flame in DS1 its power has finally ended and the world is being consumed by Dark?

--Alternate timeline and this is another worlds version of the flame dieing

--A different part of the world entirely and how it sees the Dark Lord ending happen?

Nice. One thing I come think about, please really pay attention to this:

When I was reading your part of the masks, the assasins, and how they have a tear on their masks, maybe meaning they sacrifice one eye or something like that. Tear. Tears. Tearstone! You saw their blades, they were curved in a strange way, like a straight sword, but curved ONLY in the middle. That remembers you something? Oh yeah: the SHOTEL? Both the Tearstones AND the Shotel were made in Carim.

    See?

That's a good call, I didn't even think of that. Maybe maybe the other gods ran to Carim and we will visit that section of the world =)

It's a kind of eastern fighting knife called a kukri (or alternatively, khukuri). There's nothing particularly like it in DS1, so it looks like it will be a new weapon for DS2.

A Kukri! That's exactly what I was thinking of. Not from DS as you mentioned got it from one of the other RPGs I've played over the years! From what I remember it's considered a Thief/Rouge weapon.

Am I the only one thinking of Kalameet when we see the dragon at the end of the trailer?

He's not exactly like him but the only eye on his head could mean that it s the same kind of dragon. Or maybe it's him, younger and less corrupted. Dunno, something like that.

By the way, for the timeline of this game, it appears for me that it is a prequel. Why?
Because of the girl... She's human.
The simple fact that she's alive seems indicate that Gwyns is not even turn crazy.

In addition, we can see a Knight with a torch. Maybe it s nothing, or maybe it can be indication that Humans keep the fire shrine yet.

Doughguy has said in a different thread that he thinks the dragon is of the same type as Kalameet. I'd tend to agree with that because of their similarities. As for the dark robed woman.. Yes she looks human but she could also be undead. Or as many have speculated be Velka =) As for the torch, yeah they could be using symbolism with the idea that you're saying but like many will tell you not all fire is created equal in Dark Souls.

As for a timeline from all of what I said above I'm leaning towards the true end of the age of fire or an alternate timeline all together.

When the armored man approaches the City that looks like Izalith there is a big humanoid statue that emits lava from it's head. To me the head looks like the Dragon Stone head but I not 100% sure. It could also be a statue of the Snake men of Sen's. Also in the scene ywhere he takes the sword out of the body and dualwields the swords, the body he takes the sword out has some sharp teeth in the right down corner, but the rest seems like a humanoid body to me.

Also on the official site darksoulsII .com the knight sits backed on a wall and is holding somewthing white in his hands, I am pretty sure it's not his gauntlet but a part of a dress or stuff.

The bridge he crosses looks awful familiar to me ( Ariamis). What do we know about Ariamis?
Maybe we come to play the past of Dark Souls from another perspective OR we play Dark Soul parallel.
I could imagine this as the story of Dark Souls was told pretty one-sided and without proof, there are many gaps and lies.

Edit: The lava-puking statue is a giant minotaurus ( Taurus demon?) .

If you look at the dead dragon in the trailer you can see the dragon becoming part of the stone. The stone being there from building over time. This could be proof to the game being sequel. As if it isn't way after the war between the lords and dragons, then this would have to be set after DS1. Though it's still possible to be Gwyn's son as we don't know when he was banished. The Ancient dragons dead bodies could very well be like that already when he was left.

@Raem: I like the idea of DS2 running parallel or even as an alternative timeline entirely. I think it would give them more room to do what they want story wise, that is just me being selfish though as I don't want them to mess with the lore from DS1 much lol.

@guermel: The dragon skeleton does seem to be rejoining the stone. I like those kind of details seeing as the Everlasting dragons were also made of stone.

There is a very big connection with the hawks in demons souls and the trailer. In demons souls there were giant hawks in certain cutscenes. I do believe whenever you had one with the king in boletaria it showed 3 of them flying away. These hawks might be similar to these, not sure how but perhaps.

Hey one thing about my previous post: only the RED tearstone was made in Carim, the Blue Tearstone was made in Catarina. Strange huh?

@Zakkia Hmmm I didn't think about the Hawks from Demon's Souls that's an interesting point. I wonder what they are trying to say with the usage of the hawk in this trailer.

@ChizFreak It's true that the rings reign from different areas. They could have been neighbors as far as geography goes and we could also be visiting Catarina as well as Carim in DS2.
