    Post by Gazman0169 Fri Dec 07, 2012 5:35 pm

Bored at work, I know shocking isn't it big grin, I got to thinking how cool it would be to do a Knight Kirk run. Remembering a previous post here about SL1 runs and how this lead me to thinking about base SL runs in general I thought I'd play around and see if I could mix-up the two, and lo and behold what d'ya know it can be done. Anyhoo here's what I've come up with: -

    http://mmdks.com/ewn

Using the only Class open to me, the Wanderer, I decided to equip Havel's Ring as this will keep me at a comfortable high-end medium roll, and alongside this I'll equip the Red Tearstone Ring mainly because I know I'm gonna need all the help I can get, but also because I've never actually used it before. Being a Darkwraith I've equiped Kirk with a Darkhand in his right hand as this will be in line with his soul-stealing abilities, but as there is a strong indication that he may have gone over to the Chaos side (I guess he likes leggy ladies  ) I've decided to equip an ascended Pyro Flame in his left giving him the ability to cast Great Combustion. Finally, I've decided to upgrade the Barbed Straight Sword along the Chaos path, as again this is an indication of a possible allegiance to the Chaos covenant, and the spiked shield along the Fire path as defense wise this will provide me with the best return for my investment and attack wise it'll add an extra 218 Fire damage to an already respectable 218 Physical damage. big grin

Anyway, let me know what you think?

    "Umbasa!" cheers

The RSS is uselss because in high level areas you will be probably one-shotted. Just equip RoFaP.

I did consider that, but I purposely shied away from the RoFaP on the count of it becoming a bit of a crutch for me of late. What about the Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring, as this will increase the strength of my Great Combustion pyro?

Who's idea was it to do a base SL Knight Kirk run?

Seriously, I luv the moveset of the Barbed Straight Sword, but at a piddly +5 it's naff with a capital 'N'! lol

To give you some idea just how Naff it currently is my hits on the Gaping Dragon last night was so slight that it was almost impossible to tell if I was taking anything off of its lifebar, even though I was double-handing the sword, and had it fire-buffed to boot. In the end my co-op partner did the lions share of the work, and I felt so guilty about this that I was compelled to write a thank you message to him afterwards. Heck without his help I'd probably still be fighting it now! lol

My next step is a quick (yeah right) jaunt through the Catacombs to open up the way to the Blacksmith there, before taking on the Venice reject to get 'the Right of Kindling', and then it's off to Lost Izalith to get the Chaos Flame Ember. Hopefully, once I have all of this under my belt I won't be such a wimp, but knowing that it currently takes me around six R2 double-handed hits to bring down a standard skellie I've a sneaky feeling that it's going to be a bit of a slog. Man I bloody luv this game! big grin

It's really amazing how easy it is to find new ways to keep this game fresh.

If you're going to get one-shotted then RTSR is your best option, if it makes no difference whether you have full health or <20% health then you're basically getting the extra damage for free

So what you're effectively saying is play the run as a glass cannon, I can see how that would work, but as I've never done this before I fear that the learning curve will be too much for me to handle. I'll give it a go, and will let you know how it turns out. G

Having full health you can still try to block. Do it with >20% health and you will die in 2 hits. Remember you're using Kirk's shield.

Not yet I'm not, as I've only blagged the sword so far, but I'll keep what you've said in mind for when I do eventually get my grubby mitts on it. twisted

Oh, and in case you're wondering, as with all my other cosplay runs NG is just the run-up (no pun intended) to get all the gear I need, the run proper will begin from the start of NG+. big grin

You can always try the rtsr strategy for the bosses you know really well then switch out to rosp or bellowing for those where you might take hits. rofap is pretty pointless since an extra 100hp isn't going to increase the number of hits you can take in NG+

RoFaP provides stamina (dodges) and equip weight (kirk set). It can help. But I think that without Havel's Ring he won't have enough equip weight. So it wouldn't be an option. And using Havels and RoFaP it's a waste. It's better to have an offensive ring instead of RoFaP.

@OrnsteinFanBoy- The rosp, I never even considered that one. Thanks for the suggestion.

@ChizFreak- With all my gear the rofap would not be of any use when it came to equip burden, as the boost it provides will not take me out of the fat-rolling zone, but Havel's Ring will, which is why I have chosen it over the rofap. Added to which, as I've said earlier I really do not want to use the rofap on this run, as using it is becoming too much of a reoccuring theme for my liking (all my other Characters have it equiped), which is why I purposely left it out when it came to creating this Character's build.

As things currently stand I'm looking to use Havel's Ring as a permanent fixture in my first ring slot, and will use the second ring slot as all purpose jobbie dependant on the situation I am faced with at the time.

So there I was struggling to get past a certain Sorcerer in the Catacombs, the one on the moveable bridge guarded by two skellies, and having died more times than I care to mention taking all three of them head-on it suddenly occurred to me that the pleb has a tendancy to walk onto the bridge. So what do I do? Yep, you've guessed it, I lure the sad sap out onto the bridge, leg it over to the bridge's operating switch, and in one absolutely glorious moment of triumph watch as the bridge rotates with him still on it sending his fire wielding butt plummeting to the cavern below!

In short, I griefed the game, and man did it feel good! cheers

All I managed was a skeleton, but this reminded me of a playthrough I wanted to try a while ago. A sort of passive murder run where I use aural decoy, alluring skulls, and whatever else I can think of to make enemies kill themselves and each other. Dumping them off bridges would definitely qualify.

Speaking of which, anyone ever manage to get the Gaping Dragon to fall? I've had 2/3 of his body suspended over nothing a few times now, but he won't fall for me.

A passive murder run, now there's a thought, but I suspect that it would be a bit of a nightmare, and would end up taking an absolute age to get from one area to another. Good luck if you ever do decide to go ahead with it (I've a feeling you're going to need all the luck you can get). big grin
