    Dark Souls 2 Multiplayer/Servers

Post by Yesuurd on Mon Dec 10, 2012 8:34 pm

    Hi peeps!

So I love the speculating and all else but I have one very important concern, I think the only thing this great series needs is better ways for us to play multiplayer, I know we manage but it gets frustrating many a day.

Is anyone clear on how they will change this? Also I am being optimistic that they will continue to deliver a great game as they have before and I agree on the concerns of difficulty and difficulty settings, doesn't make sense and I don't like it.

    HARDCORE ALL THE WAY....

Big hug to all of you folks here bwt.

Excuse me for a moment, but holy ***** ** ***** ************ * Yesuurd has appeared!

My main worry is for longevity, as well if they region lock it like with Demon's. I would not like to be locked out of playing with friends since they have a European copy of the game or something.

Hi Emergence and hi Tolvo! Good to see you both after a long while, I have to be honest Emergence I basically was burnt out and was playing other stuff, also working an all of those othe tedious things we have to do in life.Dks still is the best game I have played during these past years, the idea of a DKS2 jump started me to come and talk to you guys again.I am glad to see the community maintains itself running smooth big grin

I agree Tolvo, that would be very problematic if we could not enter servers from one region to another and that actually seems to be the most logical explanation for the
server based comment I read from developers, which makes it even scarier.

Cheers to the coolest game and community of gamers out there!

Well a suggestion I have is, do the Servers, but also have a backup P2P system.

Set it so that servers are based off of a setting in the options menu rather than your CD. Then you can choose what server you are connecting to. Normally I'd be on American, but if I wanted to duel say Amos, I could connect to the European server.

Then with the back up P2P, I could set it to P2P mode when the servers go down.

With the server selection also when the pool gets too low, as in there are fewer players but the servers are still up. Then people could just all set it to one main server. Maybe even have different intents for it. Like if few people play on the Oceanic server, for dueling we could all set it to that server and have a low chance of getting connected to anyone else.

Sadly I'm not a programmer so I don't know how much of a nightmare this would be to set up if it is even possible.

Wasn't it confirmed that it'll have servers? I kinda remember reading that somewhere, but I'm tired right now so it could just be one of my delusions.

Well i really hope it has a type of lobby server selection system. Or just one massive normal multiregional connection server.

All the things that could be wrong with the game. All that i want for certain is better pvp options. Demon's souls had it almost perfect. Dark souls took a step or two back. If the servers are fixed lag would be less of an issue which would fix lastabbing (i can combat it fine if its not a laggy teleporting style fight) it would fix everything to have proper connections with players.

Sorry, but I have to disagree w/ this. Lagstabs were most definitely prevalent in DeS and happened just as often as it does when playing anyone near you in DkS (ie, Americans playing Americans). The only reason they are more prevalent in DkS overall is because there is a chance to be paired up w/ someone overseas, something that would happen even if there were servers.

There's two things that cause lag... distance and speed/bandwidth. The only way to help w/ lag is to limit the physical distance between the two players, since speed/bandwidth cannot be controlled, but it's done at a cost... limited online (servers can't stay up forever) and limited player pool (not all players can connect to each other).

For these reasons I MUCH prefer the P2P system even though it does result in failures due to lag and competing for players to summon/invade.

I just need a better system for us to do co-op and pvp, simpler...Ok cool messages and blood and ghosts are great, I wanna find my friends instantly and pvp instantly with whomever I want.

Also I want to maybe be able to talk to them in game, I love the gestures and all else but we sure need a little tweak in that sense of connectivity.

Agreed with the connectivity, only with allied phantoms tho, i do NOT want to hear whining ragers if they lose etc. Also, i really REALLY hope they add a co-op world ally. Such as having 1 phantom that can go with you through your world entirely, so you can go thru the game together instead of just phantoming in and out to play together.
