I was going to make a new topic and saw this one and thought "oh perfect!"

I love Dark Souls and I want to see it evolve. Namco Bandai says that for the game to evolve we need new directors. Ok, that’s fine. The new directors want to make the game more accessible and action based from their comments. Hmm, ok I’m a little worried but really how bad could they screw it up. Now I’m not going to be the guy that says that because Miyazaki isn’t there the game will suck, and I will wait and give these guys a chance to prove that they can make an awesome game because they have some awesome framework to build upon. However, I will be the guy that says this game should not be named Dark Souls II if it is just going to be based on the world I love from the first game.

My fear is, like so many other sequels to games I’ve loved I will be suckered in and actually be a statistic to these guys that makes them think they are right. As in, “Oh look I told you it needed more action look at these sales numbers!” Then I will have supported a Dark Souls 3 that plays like Dragon’s Dogma and a lot of the reason I loved Demon’s and Dark Souls will be gone. When I hear a Japanese developer say “more action” all I can see are QTE flashing in my head… Just think Ninja Gaiden 3… I’m still upset about that one…

Will I hate the new Souls games with new developers? Probably not, I loved Dragon’s Dogma and I think it has a place in the gaming (can’t wait for the expansion). However, if they want to name it Dark Souls II I think it’s wrong to change it as much as they say they are going to. If they called it Dragon Souls or anything other than Dark Souls 2 I think I would feel better about it. It just seems dishonest to me…

Just think about when you first saw that trailer, and what you were thinking with a title like Dark Souls II. Now think about what you would have thought if it was called something like Dark Souls: Soul Hunter (bad name I know but it’s just an example). Yes, you would have been excited, but your first thought would have been…” Hmm, why the subtitle? Are they changing something?” But when you see DARK SOULS II you think “Ohh yes more of the game I LOVE but with some upgrades!”

Either way I know we are smarter than that and will find out what’s going on by researching. I’m actually still excited for the next Dark Souls game. I can’t wait to see gameplay videos and see how the game is turning out, and I hope my fears are proven wrong. Hell maybe they will even change the name later in production. However, right now at this moment in time, something in me is a little pissed at the fact it’s called Dark Souls II and if somehow they do screw it up I’ll have the same feeling I had when I beat Ninja Gaiden 3… like a statistic.

But even though I haven't played Monster Hunter, I have heard one of the new directors was associated with it and is quite good where gameplay is concerned. I am really only worried about the lore presentation now.

The new director is not related to Monster Hunter, there are two guys with the same name. That said, Miyazaki has no influence on this game's development anymore.

I have a Wii so I could play a monster hunter game on that I guess. I also have a PSP but I don't really like playing games on it.

Well there's only really Monster Hunter Tri for Wii, which is pretty damn good.

There is a real narrative story instead of the story being whatever is made of it? There goes the neighborhood.

I don't consider it so considering the console is heavily target marketed at children, and that the core of its control relies on gimmicky motion sensor which can be extremely temperamental. Apologies my opinion is so harsh, I just lost faith in Nintendo trying to keep up with general gaming when they didnt go into hd as Sony and Microsoft did a few years back.

However despite my view there's no need for insults happy

They're doing the same gimmicky crap with the wii U too. Have issues with dual screens with a ds 2 feet away, watching the controller and the tv at the same time is a no go.

Anyone seen the petition to bring Dark souls to the WII U?

Climbing enemies? Pfff, that wouldn't work unless we are talking a massive sized boss (Dragon God). As for hitting legs for weak spots? Well, they did do that with Iron Golem and it didn't end too bad.

You should check out Dragon's Dogma. There are many enemies that are big, but nothing like the Dragon God, and you can climb them all.

But Dragon's Dogma was designed practically around that gimmick and pawns. Dark Souls isn't. In Dogma you would get hit left and right if you tried that or else you would destroy your opponent if you got it right.

Dark Souls isn't designed for a grapple mechanic. <---Big Period

    It isn't yet.

I'm not sure that is should be, and I say that with Dragon's Dogma being the only game I'm interested in now besides the Soul series and Zelda OoT/MM.

I don't know how I feel about a grapple system. But I don't see why area specific damage on larger enemies can't become a thing in Dark Souls.

Well, actually, there is area specific damage on some larger enemies. Unfortunately, the only players that really get to notice the difference are archers. For example, while most regular NPCs are weaker against headshots, the giant guardian knights in Anor Londo receive the most damage when shot in the ankles.

It was true of the tower knight in demons as well.
