    "Plot Twists" Empty "Plot Twists"

Post by Repto Sat Dec 08, 2012 8:06 am

"Our goal is to surprise and delight our fans with
new experiences and plot twists while enticing new players to join our
    dark journey.” - Carlson Choi

This seems like a strange thing to say considering how the story has always been hidden away, and it would be hard to implement a plot twist when you have to discover the story yourself. Do you think they'll be showing us more of the story up front in Dark Souls 2? Or are they just finding more ways of telling the story instead of feeding it to us?

The trailer also makes it seem that the story will have a bigger presence as the woman looks like she will be a very important character who helps the player.

Not sure I like this, so hopefully I'm getting the wrong message from it.

I think you're getting the right message. Not only is Miyazaki not working as director but they're trying ot make DkS more accessible to the general gaming public. The lore is probably gonna be a lot more up front this time round.

Hopefully The Archives or the DS2 variant won't become useless then, and that there's still a nice bunch of lore to discover for ourselves.

I think that they're going to spoon feed us the main story line so that people won't be screaming "WHAT IS THE PENDANT!!!!" over and over, but I hope that they will leave all background info such as NPCs and regions alone.

DeS was already quite straightforward about its story, same with the DLC. Sadly I expect the new game to follow that instead of continuing with the DkS way of storytelling.

They should throw in another variant of the pendant just to mess with us again.

Dark Souls already has plot twists... Dark Anor Londo and Darkstalker Kaathe are good examples, as is much of the DLC...

I suspect the story in the second game will be handled similarly to the lore in the DLC- more straightforward in the sense that there will be more direct exposition from dialogue- but still leaving much unexplained and or thematic... It can be more straightforward yet still retain the metaphorical touches that make Lordran so much more complex than meets the eye...

Personally I liked the way Demon's Souls told the story, It gave you the setting the opening and what would happen if you failed then let you find out the rest until the closing cutscene.

Dark Souls story was good, plus I love how all the items have extra info about the world, but I really couldn't find myself caring as much about Lordran.

Yeah Demon's Souls way of story telling I enjoyed , not outright drowning you in story, but offering conclusion and facts in game whilst not leaving in too mcuh speculation and half formed ideas. I felt much more satisfied at the end of Demon's Souls than I did Dark Souls

The DLC had a great plot twist to it. I wouldn't mind things like that.

Finding out that knight Artorias was a big lie, that he failed hard and YOU were really the one who saved the world from the Abyss was fantastic.

    @ defacto
that was indeed a great plot twist, something like that could easily work in the new game too
but i personally liked dark souls storytelling more, maybe a mixture between demons and dark souls would be ideal

DkS has a lot of plot twists... Anor Londo illusion, Artorias' story, for god's sake, the whole of the game wants you to think we need the fire and all that and most people nowadays recognize the dark lord to be the good ending. Want a bigger plot twist than that?

What I'm saying is... the game can have plot twists without turning into a soap opera/accessibility galore.
