Loving the announcement, the whole new world, new hero thing sounds interesting. I imagine they just mean you won't be plodding around as an undead this time, but something similar, or at least not starting off in the same way.
Seen a lot of people around the web stressing about them saying "server based mulitplayer" Amused me no end to read a comment on another forum that said "We don't want servers! leave it as it is!" haha. Hopefully all it means is that the threat of being griefed at low level will be reduced to practically nothing.
All in all i'm pretty excited by the whole announcement, they'll keep what made the game great, even if they make it "more accessible". Or they risk losing the player base they already have, no company wants that.
    Roll on more details.

I'm suddenly not worried at all about the sequel...could FROM SOFT really, honestly f*ck this up bad, even when Miyazaki is still supervising the process? nah, I don't think so.

I think accessibility just means probably more dialogue options with NPCs, better tutorial, better inventory management etc.
Dark Souls is hell of a game, but there are many little things that could be made...well differently without it hurting the game itself.
I really don't think they dumb down the gameplay or difficulty, why would they? it is their main selling point, why f*ck it up?

I don't know...I'm just excited and hyped, no darkness in me involving these news.
I'll lay down more judgement when we get more info or actual game footage.

Yo, dude, calm down ._. . Don't burn someone's butt just cuz of their opinion.

Sorry about the textual outburst, but you really need to realise that making premature judgements based on some vague hints is not productive. We just got an announcement teaser and people are already being humongous pessimists about the game. We're surely a year away from release at least. The game is going to change, whether it's for the better or for the worse remains to be seen. People should just remain neutral about this and look forward to new information.
The people who are making "premature judgements" are all making intelligent judgements based on what they know. There's a lot they're doing which appears to be going against what the souls series is. No doubt we're all going to buy the game when it comes out no matter what we think of it, but we're all still worried for what is going to happen to the game.

Hey, It's cool to be worried about the new director and the new direction that the game is going toward. But we don't know what that direction is and we don't have any gameplay to comment on.

And no, the people who are making premature judgements aren't doing so based on any real info. All we have is a teaser and a vague statement made by the director saying that the game's going to be more accessible. And his remark about the "Elder Souls" was based on laziness, as I explained earlier.

We should stop quarreling and focus on new information about the new installment to the series we all know and love. Without assuming that change is bad.

I don't know if anyone's seen this yet, but it has me a little worried:
"It seems that multiplayer is going to be tweaked as well. Demon's Souls and Dark Souls had an unusual multiplayer system that allowed users to do everything from leaving quest hints for each other to invading each other's games. So what to make of this bit from the press release about Dark Souls II ? 'Players seeking to share their experience will discover a revamped server-based multiplayer mode that will put a distinct Dark Souls II twist on the concept of playing with others.'" (From here)

    Going to assume it means:

-Echo summon signs no longer occur
-No waiting a full minute just to get 'Summoning failed'
    -Less lag
    -Can invite your friends directly
    -In-game voice chat
-Larger range of summon signs, but a cap so the entire floor isn't covered in them at one time with a cycle of new signs every few minutes.

All of which, I'm cool with.

The Elder souls name is just a joke i'm using to say that i believe there is a considerable risk they will dumb down the game, guys, who is taking things literally is you, not me, of course you won't take you horse on the next game and start exploring a vast open world with no challenge at all, that's not what i meant.

I believe there is many ways From software could expand the sales of the game, they could try promoting it all over the world, Demon's souls was launched in 2009, but i only discovered it last year, i'm conviced there is a lot of people out there who would love their games but just don't know they exist, also a better PC version is mandatory, PC is a porn games plataform in Japan, but in many countries such as mine it is the core platform, i have a friend who bought Dark souls on Steam but didn't play it for more than a hour, he said he wouldn't play this **** port neither would waste his time looking for mods, they could also allow people to coop the entire game for those who like it, it would make the game easier without removing what i think is thebest aspect of the game: the sense of community.

We can easily think in many things that would improve the sales without dumbing down the game, weakening the community and removing from Souls series what we most love.

Same, i really don't think they will mess it up. I was surprised even ENB seemed concerned. What i think will change is, better tutorial, easier to understand stat/weapon info, and maybe a more fleshed out story. To be fair Demon's Souls story was told in a much more direct way compared to Dark Souls, and i didn't find that to effect the game at all. Just because the main story might be a little more direct doesn't mean there wont be tons of lore for hardcore players to discover through item descriptions and investigating.

I actually like the idea of a new director(i can understand why some don't), it could bring some new and possibly better ideas to the franchise. The new director seems like one of the best possible replacements in my opinion. Although i wouldn't be upset, i don't really want a Dark Souls 1.5. Which might have been what we got from Miyazaki. I find that to be an issue with a lot of Japanese franchises(i still love them though). That is actually why i love the Final Fantasy franchise(i know people will hate this reference), because they aren't scared to try completely new ideas. Fans that just want basically the same thing except with a few tweaks might not like it, but i personally like seeing developers take risks and try new things.

I think Fromsoft/Namco Bandai realized that the "Prepare to Die" campaign didn't help the game sell, which is why they are just not going all out saying how brutal the game will be. What they do know, is that the challenging yet rewarding nature of the game is what made it so popular. I don't see them ditching that. Can't wait to read this upcoming interview. Umbasa!

I have to agree that change is good. Originally, I had though that sequels meant same game, a couple new stuff; so I always kind of hated the concept now that I think about it. With the original supervising and some other talent on the works (for a franchise I did like), we can expect most of what we want: Core intact, new experience.

Well I'll tell you why people didn't like your post, man.

It's because it was absolute nonsense.

People know what's true in their hearts...

    1) Miyazaki said when asked about another DS game that he may not be able to be involved in a sequel. And your nonsense about "do you even know what that means" only supports my point.. I for one have seen MANY cases where an original project principal is made "supervisor" in order to push them aside for "something better for the company". Promote them until they are irrelevant.

    2) Popularizing art RUINS ART. I need not cite the millions of examples of this. Art is subtle. Art takes imagination and reflection to truly enjoy. There is a balance between the profit needs of the company and art. If the goal is to have DS become as 'popular' as The Elder Scrolls, people are absolutely right to be concerned. The new Director saying things like "I like to be more straightforward" and the fact its on VGA is more than enough to be concerned that this great art we loved may be lost by nature of popularization.

Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts. Enough said. I suppose I should elaborate on my issue with this trailer.

It is marketing, it is designed to get you interested in a game. The purpose is to either show what about the game you will be interested in, or to lie to you and get you to buy something you wouldn't. Sometimes both. This trailer reminded me somewhat of Skyrim, which is a game I enjoy. A lot of people like that game. Here's an issue, this could get a lot of people to buy this game who would not based upon the series. If it is watered down and a lot dumber of a game, I can play it but I will feel it was a waste of what could have been.

If it isn't dumbed down, this game could see huge backlash and be hated by the public. All in all, this trailer has me worried on multiple layers.

I am not sure why you think that. The franchise does already have quite a reputation for being difficult, i would assume people who haven't played the previous games are aware of that. I just think they realized how much the "Prepare to Die" campaign worked against them. Souls games are not that hard. If they did not have the "Prepare to Die" campaign, i bet a lot less gamers would have given up so easily. They try the game, die a few times early on and assume the game is just to difficult for them. Anyone can beat Dark Souls, it is just a matter of them understanding the basics. Which the past souls games haven't done a great job of explaining. You could argue that figuring out the mechanics is part of the game, but i don't think that is really what makes the game great. Plus, they might keep the games difficulty(maybe even make it more difficult) but just make co-op more accessible to new players.

I think figuring out the mechanics is what makes the game great though. I felt outside of the effect of humanity, everything was explained exactly as it needed to be.

I have to disagree. Most of the basic combat was explained(if you bothered to read the messages). Stuff like weapon/catalyst scaling, poise, shield stability, equip weight, what stats do what, were just not explained well or at all. I see a lot of people saying that "having all that information readily available will make the online community less important". Maybe, but i think there will be plenty of new things to keep all of us occupied creating topics and testing ideas. Just less repeat "noob" topics like "how do i do this".

What this trailer clearly shows is that the game is receiving much more investment than the previous, i think the pressure for sales will increase at the same proportion, if you agree with me then imagine this:

Imagine that 8 in 10 players hate, avoid or are afraid of games with mechanics like griefing, unclear paths, perma death, few checkpoint and many other punitive, hardcore mechanics you may imagine, the other 2 players in 10 loves it and would buy your game blindly, but you invested so much money on the game that 2 of 10 players won't pay for it, as a company how would you deal with that? would you start chopping those mechanics one by one trying to make the game more appealing to a wider audience? i think that's what From Software would do, and i'm worried.

And I disagree with you, I find all of those things are explained easily enough in the menus. I liked that my hand wasn't held and that I could figure out all of the scaling, etc, through experimentation and attaining of gear.

Frankly, I don't want the game to get dumbed down.

I just don't get how you guys are getting this vibe from the video. I watched the Demon Souls trailer, the Dark Souls trailer, and the DKS II trailer. They are all basically the same, just with improved animations.

I will have more of an opinion after i read this edge magazine interview with the new director. I hope they ask good questions, and it is fairly in depth and lengthy. As of now, i am very optimistic. Remember that comment about wanting the game to be as popular as TES:Skyrim was not made by Fromsoft, but Edge Magazine. The whole being straight forward comment i think is completely overshadowing his other comments like “Dark Souls II retains the core essence of Dark Souls while evolving to present new twists and challenges that are sure to please longtime fans and attract new comers to the series”.

I think Dark Souls 2 will be the best game of 2013.
