Images from the Voyager

I came across this album on Reddit, and thought that more than a couple of people around here would be interested in seeing this. These are the images on board the Voyager spacecraft. If humanity ceases to exist at some point in the future, these are the only images alien life will ever see of us, provided they come across the Voyager. It was moving and inspiring to look through all of these images, as they gave me the sense of bearing witness to the story of humanity and, by extension, the planet.

So let me get this straight.....

We intentionally sent the aliens a crap load of intelligence? Including our biology. Way to go America. Are the nuke codes in there too?

Also, that dolphin picture immediately prompted "so long and thanks for all the fish"

Haha yeah, despite all the moving images, I found myself thinking, "Boy are they gonna get the wrong impression of dolphins..."

I think it would have been a better idea to put those images on the Enterprise. People seem to like that one better.

Cool. I thought Jimmy Carter's message was a tad trite, but he was a loser anyways. If I had written it, it would read- Beware your wandering eyes, alien from beyond, those that tread unprepared upon our homeworld shall be vanquished with extreme prejudice and nary a forewarning by our mightiest weapons of war. Those who approach unarmed and bearing the finest gifts of your world will be treated fairly.

Haha, funny but true. You'd think with the foresight to put together something like this they would also consider the fact that maybe whatever may be out there may not be friendly. It's just common sense, you don't meet a stranger and tell him everything about yourself as you're shaking hands.

Please Explain, why did we send something in outer space like that? Why not give them the Nuke Codes?

Sigh... Might as well just nuke ourselves first... or make space nukes for defenses... or make EMP Devices... or something. Make the Apes or Machines take us over as dominant life form, therefore we don't have to deal with that... since we will be lesser than what exists.

I would actually be worried about them learning a "weak spot" from the biology info but humans are so frail to begin with they have a plethora to choose from anyway.

It's ok, the images include Pluto as a planet--they'll never find the Solar System now!

I think it's really cool but the pictures are really disappointing, they the scientists kids take them wtf? And what is up with that really lame statement. Btw if they reach us then Im pretty sure they would've kicked our asses anyway, we're so weak.

What's wrong with the pictures lol? They are like 30 years old, that thing is just reaching the outskirts of the solar system.

imho a lot of them look lame, i dont know how to explain it but they couldve done a much better job. a great picture will always be a great picture no matter the time.

Rant, the pictures and gifts are all from 1977 or before. Most are actually pretty decent quality. Plus the ones E posted were likely scans made of copies if not even further removed. I find this fascinating since they've been in space just moseying along longer than I've been alive

They're pretty much social studies book pictures. Definitely not art but informational as all get out

You think it was a smart move to make that go? Either we are gonna get something bad happen, or nothing at all. The likelyhood of something positively good for us, in terms of development and advancement and health and growth and all that... that's way smaller than it finding life.

Remember how we explored the worlds, and we saw the Natives? Muslims? Africans? You can go on and on, no matter what race or culture, not all of us were peaceful... a lot of us were controlling or deadly.

Please, give me my revolver when they come. Give me something, as meek as it would to defend, against those that come.

But their cutting-edge intel will say there's 4 billion of us. By the time they reach us... think about it!

Maybe it was deliberate misinformation. Our tech has come a long way since then. I leave you with this....

Or we can all become slaves for food, work, water, or whatever the hell they want us for. Either way, should be fun... or kill us, and use our planet or blow it up. Depends on their ideals and mood, I suppose.
