Post by Fckthwrld Mon Dec 03, 2012 9:15 am

    Hey Guys!

I just beat Queelag and rang the 2nd Bell... Now i got a strange problem big grin I have the feeling that the game is from this point much, much harder! I guess i have to improve my gear (dragon sword is now to low i think, and i think i have to upgrade one armor for better protection). But i dont know how to do it. i dont now what gear is worth beeing powerd up at the smith. i found the Elite Knight Set, i really like it, but my char is really slow in it, is it better to use a armor thats not that heavy?

and is the parameter scaling, for example on strength, depending on the weapon or my own skills? A friend told me yesterday that when i reach the double of a value of the weapon, the scaling will in crease... i think i dont get that right yet.

It would be beneficial for you to just flip through some of the wiki pages pertaining to weapons and armor, just to get a good idea of what is available and how they upgrade. I, however, would recommend doing your first playthrough totally on your own though. Don't worry about if you are doing things perfectly, this is your chance to experiment and get to know whatever weapons/armor you are interested in. If you have made it this far you will be able to finish on your own accord. You will feel best about the experience that way.

Its worth it. To play it blind. I made a wreck of a character. Horrible stat placement that doesn't really work well for any particular build. I can miracle or magic or heavy weapon. But none all to well. But i STILL like that character best. Made some poor upgrade choices, wasted my first slab. But its all fine. I still play him.

If you getting so frustrated that the game isn't fun to play, and then you are tempted to get an easy answer on the internet, just try taking a break instead. Sometimes when you come back a day or even just a few hours later you will breeze through things that gave you trouble before.
In general, the first part of the game is the most difficult for newbies, because you have to figure out all the games mechanics without a clue. The game is going to get harder, but you are also getting better too. This isn't a game like Diablo or something where you can't fight a certain boss and win without being a certain level or having certain gear. You will never need to grind, though leveling up or upgrading gear may help take the edge off if you are really stuck at a certain point.

The Elite Knight Set is decent, but is only a medium armor, as opposed to heavy armors it's weight isn't too too high. That being said, if you're noticing that you're taking more damage than you'd like and the set you're using is encumbering you more than you're comfortable with, it means that your endurance might not be high enough. Havel's ring will help you with that as well, but most new players seem to not increase endurance as much as they probably should. More endurance not only means you can equip heavier things and maintain your speed, but it also means a larger pool of stamina, which is always an asset for a number of reasons.

in sens you will get a lightning spear DO NOT RELY ON IT. it is all well and fun at first but in Anor Londo.....you may as well be using a butter knife, try getting a weapon to +5 then doing a suiside run into the catacombs and reaching vamos for a fire weapon OR go +10 if you have high STR/DEX

Me too, in fact my first character has just begun ng++ and I'm hoping to get the Platinum soon. I think you can become too fixated on 'builds' if, like me, you play mainly PvE. It's only if you want to PvP that they become really important. I'm glad that some people bother though because I would not have made it this far without summoning someone now and again for the really hard boss fights, although I try to do it on my own when I can. 4Kings in ng+ for example - it was really satisfying to beat them solo.

Always upgrade your weapons before anything else. That's my rule. =)

Try them in NG+7. They're a freaking pain in the arsehole.

I thought I messed my first character up by putting too many points in Dex. As soon as I started lurking on here, I realised I'd made a pretty solid character, ha! It's definitely more satisfying to push through on your own.
